CD Preview: Bruce Springsteen Reborn

Oh yea baby, the 30th anniversary re-release of Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run comes out today. Remastered audio. A making-of documentary DVD. A never before seen concert DVD from 1975. I can hardly stand it.

To me, Born To Run is a nearly perfect record. From the building passion of "Thunder Road" to cinematic beauty of "Jungleland". This evening, I'll be rippin' this package open and just about bathing in it.

For those so inclined, Bruce will be guesting later today on Terry Gross' radio show Fresh Air.

For a preview of the Wings for Wheels DVD material, check out the podcasts at Feedburner.

In a few days, after the smoke has cleared, please check out the special edition of The Friday Morning Listen, where me and a couple of Blogcritic special guests will turn up the volume to reveal the madness in our souls.

I have my box sitting to my left and the CD in my computer (can't watch the DVD at work).

I'm pulling out of here to win! You better fucking believe it.

Fortunately, the wife to whom I am married is a sainted soul who took me to purchase the set at lunchtime.

Duke, I have steadfastly refused to be sucked into that racket. Half the best shit gets released right before Christmas and I am supposed to just not buy any of it? Fuck a whole lot of that. Now, I did have to choose between BTR 30th or the new U2 Vertigo/Chicago DVD. I wound up going with BTR. I am just listening to the album (which I've kind of heard a time or two before) and I already know I made the right decision.

That version of "BTR" in the Fresh Air segment was... Mark... help me here... what the fuck was that? That's just wild.

#7 — November 15, 2005 @ 17:38PM — Mark Saleski [URL]

Okay, you giddy dickheads, thanks a lot for distracting me about the 30 yr. anniversary release. I was trying to pretend it wasn't happening, but now I can't.

To you and my brother, who just saw Bruce in AC the other night and had to tell me all about it in full detail, fuck you very much for making me a bad parent [she says as she heads off to NPR.org to listen to today's Fresh Air while the kids eat dinner].

My vocabulary took a vacation when trying to describe that incarnation of the song. Just... hmmm... something you just have to hear.

#16 — November 15, 2005 @ 23:06PM — DJRadiohead [URL]

TWO WORDS: HAMMERSMITH ODEON.

#18 — November 15, 2005 @ 23:18PM — DJRadiohead

Giddy dickhead? Watch yourself, you silly cunt. That's courtesy of Sir Fleming!

#19 — November 16, 2005 @ 00:48AM — Rich Powers

Hey, I'm a youngster and I happen to think Bruce Springsteen is still the greatest musical act in the world hehe.

I was *this* close to attending his Storyteller's show in Red Bank, NJ, but United screwed my flight up.

Moral of the story: don't fly United, if only for me.

#20 — November 17, 2005 @ 11:11AM — DJRadiohead [URL]

Rich, that's horrendously bad fortune. I hate you missed it. Go buy the new box set and revel in seeing the boys circa 1975.
