New album releases, week of 10-18-2005

Part of New CDs

The coolest sounding new release this week comes from Shout Factory records, which has a Great American Baseball Box. This bad boy has vintage radio broadcasts of Pete Rose beating Ty Cobb's record, Babe Ruth talking about baseball, etc. It has all kinds of groovy baseball related songs, from John Fogerty's "Centerfield" to Count Basie with "Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball?"

I'd have to check the dates, but I think Millard Fillmore was president when last Stevie Wonder managed to put out an album. The wait is over, though. A Time to Love is out now. We'll see if it rates all the hoopla.

The only thing worse than a talentless lip-synching teeny pop singer with empty bubblegum crap for songs would be that same singer trying to write serious songs to prove that she's really an artiste. Oh, and Ashlee Simpson's back with a new album called I Am Me. Is there in fact a "me" there?

Note that the Chris Botti CD has some purposeful factory corruption, with complaints showing up at Amazon about not even being able to play the damned thing. This sounds like some boring crap, but you'd be well advised to download this p2p if you feel the need to hear it, rather than paying money for something that won't work right anyway.

Here's the complete list of this week's major new album releases, courtesy AMG:

FACTORY CORRUPTED CD WARNING

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly and sometimes candidate Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at MoreThings.com, what with the paranoid religious visions and the Pentacostal music and visions of God and anarchy running amok and such. Somebody oughta call the cops to report his out of control freedom of conscience. Till they come to take him away somewhere where he can't hurt anyone else, you can check out his weekly column of NEW ALBUM RELEASES.
