Book Review: It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken

It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken, The Smart Girl's Breakup Buddy, by Greg Behrendt & Amiira Ruotola-Behrendt, takes the painful situation of a collapsing relationship and turns it into a way of finding out just how special a woman really is. Mixed with workbook applications and even a recipe or two, the husband and wife team use a combination of humor and straight talk to make this a most fascinating read.

Behrendt is the co-author of He's Just Not That Into You, taking the title from a line said in the television show Sex and The City. As a writer on that series, Behrendt had plenty of experience when it came to male and female relationships.

What I really enjoyed about this book were the letters sent in to Greg from his readers. The women did not hold back when it came to sharing truth, and neither did Greg. He tells it like it is, but in a blunt way that doesn't cause offense.

Another special aspect of this book was "Psycho Confessional," where women shared what not to do when the guy was no longer interested in pursuing the relationship. "And You Thought Your Relationship Was Bad" shows bad relationships taken to the extreme.

Greg and Amiira take care to teach from experience. Among the pages of getting back to recognizing one's self-worth are their own walks down the rocky road of dating.

MJ - wow - you sound a little bitter. I just got done reading Greg's book and it was excellent. Did you ever hear the term 'snooze, you lose??' - maybe you should write a book on that and maybe it will get published this time.

In 2005, when the book "he is not that into you" was released, I was overwhelmed with the facts that was given and I was very sure that the guy that I was dating at that time was the right one.

Now in 2007, after 2 years of going out with the same guy, I left him cos he cheated on me and at the same time I realised that he told me a whole bunch of lies for the past 2 years.

This book came in handy just like the 1st one. So far I have managed to stay away from him for the past 5 months eventhough deep down I know that I still have strong feelings for him. I have succeeded on my mission and so does all of you out there. This book has really helped me. It has boost my dognity and my pride. I am so proud of myself and my achievements.

Thanks alot to Amiira and Greg. You guys rocked my world and knocked some sense into me :-)
