Kurt Vonnegut - The Poet

Written by Scott Butki
Published September 15, 2005

Kurt Vonnegut didn't get to read his poem on the air during the Daily Show but this was later posted on the show's Internet site.

LIBERAL CRAP I NEVER WANT TO HEAR AGAIN

Give us this day our daily bread. Oh sure.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Nobody better trespass against me. I'll tell you that.

Blessed are the meek.

Blessed are the merciful. You mean we can't use torture?

Blessed are the peacemakers. Jane Fonda?

Love your enemies - Arabs?

Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. The hell I can't! Look at the Reverand Pat Robertson. And He is as happy as a pig in s**t.

What do you think of it? I think Vonnegut remains as fresh as ever.

Scott Butki was a newspaper reporter for more than 10 years before making a career change into education. He is an in-house media critic, a recovering Tetris addict and a proud uncle.

I don't think he's senile. He's just a liberal realist.

I explained
here
why I love Vonnegut and how he influenced me early on as a budding writer.

Is/was anyone else influenced by him

I am pretty saddened about Kurt Vonnegut's death. He probably influenced - positive or negatively depending on what you think of it - my writing style more than any other writer.

I think I'll write a tribute piece to him this weekend.

I learned a lot from Cat's Cradle.
Because of Slaughterhouse 5, I'm a different person.
"Bluebeard" made me happy even in failure.
Now he has the semi-colon at the end of his life.
So it goes!

I leaerned over the last few days that Kurt Vonnegut influenced so many people. I think he was an awesome writer. the way he caught the readers attention. It was great.
