Blogcritics Break It Down For Prison Break

Prison Break (Fox), the first new series to kick off the Fall 2005 television season, has the Blogcritics in a flurry.

And why not? There's a structural engineer purposefully landing himself in a prison he helped design in an attempt to bust out his brother, who is accused of murdering the Vice President's own bro. There's prison riots, cons who are far too friendly and good looking to possibly make it in the real clink, an old coot with a cat under his coat and a mysterious past, origami sailboats that mean mischief and mayhem and murder and madness, conjugal visits, a warden building a replica of the Taj Mahal for his wife, and a hot nurse who is strangely left alone with prisoners.

Particularly a prisoner with detailed blueprints on busting out of the joint tattooed but somehow well disguised across his 24 Hour fitnessed body.

What's not to like?

Break it down with us here all season long:

This show isn't a fix for those looking to fill your Oz void, But You have to remember this is aired on "basic" cable not a pay channel like HBO. So its gonna have to cut a few corners here and there to make it work, for instance cutting shots of inmates penises every other scene (THANK YOU FOX). I for one am loving the show. Yet still, how long can the show last... I mean, there gonna Break out eventually. Then what?

I think everyone is wondering about the fact that there's gotta be a break eventually. But likely the show will take a new direction within the jail at that point.

Ya but after the break all thats left is the whole secret service twist. The only other direction i can see it going after they break out (and they will) is they will find some way to prove his innocence and that the government is covering things up bla bla bla and then the murder charges are drooped, so his brother stays out of jail, then the main character goes back to jail to serves his time for the bank robbery or gets parole or something bla bla bla. This show should take one season tops. Unless they draggggg it and fill in the blanks with useless stuff like there already doing (the wardens play house for instance). Like "DSTER" says this is definitely not a fix for OZ.

It will likely reinvent itself (if it lasts post-bust, that is) in much the way 24 does... the main dude will have to bust someone else out involving some kind of political conspiracy and intrigue.

Haha this is the first time one of my pieces has been featured in one of these. Thanks guys!

Well apart from the huge plot/reality holes, one dimensional characters and crappy acting, I guess it's OK.

What do you want, everything?

#9 — September 12, 2005 @ 19:42PM — dave

Why is he called "FISH"?

#10 — September 12, 2005 @ 23:43PM — Eric Berlin [URL]

New arrivals to jails are referred to as Fish or New Fish.

There's a lot of examples of this on film and television (I haven't been to jail as yet), The Shawshank Redemption comes to mind first and foremost.

Well....

SO much of "constructive" criticism here...

The show is 2 good people...

It's like Police-Theif story... How you do bad things (Like breaking out of jail) without even getting noticed.

And you people are not writers 2 end the show in just one season... They got some professionals to lead the show 2 some point after they break out.

#19 — December 6, 2007 @ 01:27AM — ALDEAN

THIS IS NOT RIGHT. THE SHOW SHOULD AIR EVERY MONDAY AND THEN THEY TAKE AN UNSCHEDULED BREAK FOR A WHOLE MONTH. DONT THEY THINK THEIR VIEWERS WOULD BE UPSET?
