Review: Prison Break
Published August 30, 2005
The first new show of the fall season among the major networks is FOX's Prison Break. This is a good way to start off the fall season.
Prison Break has a very interesting premise, one that seems more like movie material than TV show material. In it, Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller) gets himself thrown in prison so that he can rescue his brother Lincoln Burrows (played by Dominic Purcell), a death row inmate accused of killing the Vice President's brother. Michael does whatever it takes to carry out his plan to help his brother. He pretends to have Type I Diabetes so he can get a daily visit with the prison doctor, a woman who is also the governor's daughter. He finds the whereabouts of the man who ratted on a mob boss so he can make use of his services when he escapes. He even finds himself in the middle of a battle between black and white inmates as he tries to use people on both sides to help him get the things he needs to further his plan. In the process, Michael gets beaten up multiple times and by the end of the two-hour premiere, it is possible that he may be without a toe.
Prison Break is one of the shows that seems influenced by ABC's Lost. Both shows rely on high concepts and both find ways to keep things interesting by having a lot of characters and storylines. Many characters are introduced in the premiere of Prison Break and there are several subplots. One subplot involves a woman named Veronica (played by Robin Tunney) who is a lawyer and an ex-lover of Lincoln. Michael convinces her that Lincoln was set up and she starts investigating the case. We are also introduced to two Secret Service agents who are trying to bury the case through everything from intimidation to murder. There is also a subplot involving Sucre (played by Amaury Nolasco), Michael's cellmate. He wants to marry his girlfriend, but his "friend" Hector is wooing her. It's clear from the premiere that these subplots will probably become more and more important as the series progresses.
All in all, Prison Break has a lot of potential. The show has a nice pace to it that is faster than many dramas, but not MTV-like. The show has a very good cast and a rising star in Wentworth Miller. After roles that vary from a younger version of Anthony Hopkins's character in The Human Stain to the man of Mariah Carey's dreams in the videos "It's Like That" and "We Belong Together," this may be Miller's breakout role. FOX looks to have another show that could very well join the ranks of the network's 24 and House, M.D. as one of the best dramas on television. Here's hoping that the producers can keep the quality up across the season.

Summer, like Stephen has told you, I believe that Michael uses his mother's name (she died when he was young and their father left them) and Lincoln uses his father's name. :)

OK all.....There is no full version of the "This is WAR" song, that we can find. BUT here's a direct link to the entirety of the copy that is availiable via Black Toast Music's website. Just find yourself a SWF audio ripper and rip the music from the SWF file.

I'm Polish fan of Prison Break (that is in Poland unfortunetlly translated to: "Skazany na smierc" which means "puted to death row" :)) I have same problems with songs especially with "this is war". Sure... I've listend to the sample on www.blacktoastmusic.com but I could find nuthin on P2P, or even google search... I found out the info in this place, thah full MP3 is not avaible. I used to look for Bulldog CD's in shops, Allegro (Polish version of EBay or sth like that... U can buy things there... have no idea how to call it in English cuz I'm 15 years old white rat form Poland who don't give a f*** to learn English) but I cannot find this song... Guys get over it, they won't release it, and i have no idea why. The background music of when they are in prison is amazing too, ahhh, and the few private rap songs. Maybe it will come out as Prison break soundtrack someday. when the whole prison break ends. probably.

skowron the actual episode is either English, Fitz and Percy episode 0ne of Disc two season one airdate 9/19/05 or Riots, Drills, and the Devil part one.. episode two on disc two of season one. airdate 9/26/05 The first time I heard the song was in a yard scene which I thought was EF&P but it might be played again in RD&D during the riot.. just so much going on in that episode I can't remember.

People often say that i'm very picky of what's on TV. Mostly that's said because for a while there was abosolutely nothing interesting on TV and I wasn't interested in watching Desperate Housewives re runs like everybody else. I was patiently awaiting the return of my two favorite shows, Lost and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. I simply gave up after a while and I vented my frustrations about those goddamn reality TV shows and unbelievably stupid teenage dramas that never seemed to reflect reality, on anybody that was willing to listen.
A show like Prison Break was my saviour from boredom. Monday is now one of my favorite days of the week. Everyday is a countdown to the next episode where I know I wont be dissapointed. Every character is interesting, if not likable and i'm absolutely mesmerized by every desision these characters make.
And I whole heartedly agree that Wentworth Miller was a surprising talent. It isn't necessarily a very complicated role to play, but that's not entirely true. Not just anyone could radiate the same emotion that Miller's character Michael does. Michael is rather serious and determined so far and that one hard stare he has that is part of his mask of composure. But once in a while you'll see that mask fall as the plot takes yet another twist and turn.
Hopefully Prison Break will be renewed for a second season because this is how TV should be. It's very dissapointing when great shows like The Inside are cancelled because not enough people like the show. Or how so many people are ignoring the pure genious that is Arested Developpememt.
So you that we have both reached an agreement. I just wish most 14 year old girls like me understood that there is more to the boring and overused plots of The O.C.
