Thoughts On The 2005 MTV Video Music Awards

Written by Sterfish
Published August 29, 2005

Another MTV Video Music Awards show has come and gone and while I think it is better than last year's host-free show, this year's show proves that it isn't the must-see event it once was.

-The pre-show wasn't that bad and one creative idea gave me a little hope. MTV put a genuinely creative (and literal) spin on award show arrivals with the "showbox." Some stars arrived in their cars and drove up a ramp and onto a large turntable. They would exit the vehicle and talk to an MTV News reporter while the turntable spun and showed off the celebrity's ride. There were some nice cars to be seen. However, a lot of stars drove up in the same type of car...a customized vintage convertible, whether it was a low-rider or not. Artists like The Game, Ludacris, Nelly, and Snoop Dogg all arrived in cars like these. Green Day arrived in the car from their videos for "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" and "Holiday." My favorite arrival, though, belonged to My Chemical Romance. They showed up in the back of an armored truck.

-I knew the show wasn't going to be the best when the show opened up with Green Day doing "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." This isn't a slam at Green Day. The performance was pretty good. It's just that it seemed like an unusual choice to start the show. Why didn't they start with a more upbeat song? Why couldn't Green Day have started with some of "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" and then have gone into something like "American Idiot" or "Holiday"? The pyrotechnics seemed like some way to try to make the opening more energetic.

-I noticed that most of the celebrities in the audience didn't exactly look all that amused by Diddy's antics as host. They probably had issues with just how obsessed Diddy had with himself throughout the show. There was the ridiculously overdramatic entrance, the silly dance off with Omarion that included a "blink-and-you'll-miss-him" appearance by Miami's own Uncle Luke, the half-hearted tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. with Diddy "directing" an orchestra playing over some of Biggie's verses, and the "explanation" of why he changed his name to Diddy. I did like it when he pledged to give $100,000 each to the charities of the two winners of his Fashion Challenge. For once, he did something that wasn't completely about glorifying himself.

-Didn't Bishop Don "Magic" Juan look like he'd had a Maury show makeover when he came out in normal, non-pimp clothing? Didn't it also make you realize how anonymous he'd be if he didn't wear his flashy, colorful clothing? And why was he holding and petting what looked like a cocker spaniel when he came out?

-Another interesting idea for this year's show was having Lil' Jon and Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda compose a score for the show. Their crafted beats weren't that bad and it makes me wonder if this will start a trend. Will we see other popular producers and artists do this for next year's show? Will this lead to someone like Danny Elfman composing original music for the Academy Awards a few years down the road?

I totally agree with you, I thought the show was horrible. There has to be more talent available than what we saw last night. Maybe they should go back to Radio City, I think their venue is to big! I also think parading around in big fancy cars and boats is a slap in the face to the fans that are struggling right now.
I agree diddy was horrible, he was self absorbed.
I was happy for Kelly Clarkson, they got something right!

#2 — August 29, 2005 @ 08:02AM — steve t

oh my god......r kelly has offically lost his mind.....on stage last night.....I LIKED THE VIDEO BUT TO DO A ONE MAN SHOW.....oh my god......it was plain lame!
i know hardcore rock fans laughed their asses off last night, its like rock music has been phased out for gun talk, dancing and bragging and bosting!

good luck mtv
maybe one day they will understand the m in mtv stand for music, not money

#3 — August 29, 2005 @ 08:04AM — steve t

i dont know if anybody without tivo saw it but.........kelly fell on her ass.....i dont think that was a good performance......maybe if she was wearing a white tee... :)

#4 — August 29, 2005 @ 08:29AM — Lance

I think Kelly did great!!! she keeps it real she wont lip sink (is that a word ?)I dont see any other "American Idol " Enjoying more sucess nor will anyone other Idol winner EVER have the sucess she has. I think she is great i watched a concert on AOL live was awsome she does a song from the Eurythmics (sp*) "Why" probably one of the best songs she has ever done live !

#5 — August 29, 2005 @ 08:54AM — Robert

So what's music to you all? really? Rock music? I mean let's admit urban music is taking over. I agree with all the awards that Green Day received they worked hard for it and their album is great. But as far the show was terrible because Diddy was the host. I totally disagree. The show was a urban explosion because Hip Hop rules over Rock/Pop this days.

#6 — August 29, 2005 @ 08:54AM — Natalie Davis [URL]

Mr. T, what does the color of her tee have to do with it? But hear, hear, the M should be for music. That's nothing new though: When I was attending these things (the 80s), they were still money-and-glitterati fixated -- what saved the old VMAs, however, was that the performances were terrific and they were fun.

#7 — August 29, 2005 @ 10:25AM — Victor Lana [URL]

I couldn't sit through the whole show, so my comments are based on what I saw bouncing back and forth to coverage of the hurricane.

The show has degenerated in recent years, as has MTV in general. I am an old coot who enjoyed the early days when I could say "I want my MTV" and mean it. Those were the days of annoying VJs when "Music Television" actually featured music videos.

I would have loved to see Alicia Keys perform, and others in the audience as well.

I must say Gwen Stefani is so damn glamorous and looks more like a movie star than most movie stars.

#8 — August 29, 2005 @ 10:36AM — Dman

I think the show was a flop, RKelly lip singing come on what was that, first ashley simpson on SNL who got slammed for it now him. Are they that desperate. It seemed very political when it came to judges decisions. And since its the video and not the actual song or its beat I believe it should be the video producer getting the award not the artist cause it isn't based on the songs. And Diddy has his head so far up is you know what, to bad he's not as cool as he thinks the show could have been awsome giving its location of miami which I think had alot to do with the shows latin theme or so it seemed with all latin performers, performing there songs in spanish I mean can I get some subtitles atleast.

#9 — August 29, 2005 @ 10:47AM — Meso Ornay

With "Didy" as the host, it was annoying to see so much attention on Black artists. When he would cut to others all they featured were black rappers. It was amazing to see that they actually awarded a white group like Green Day so many awards. It's ashame to see that all pop-culture has to gravitate around inner-city ghetto-ness..

#10 — August 29, 2005 @ 11:13AM — THE TRUTH

It is sad to see that all you can do is complain that "urban acts" are getting some love. You all sound like undercover racists and that is what is the real problem. Have an open mind and appreciate all different types of talent. And because Diddy hosted the show gives him no power to who get camera time or awards.

#11 — August 29, 2005 @ 11:14AM — TL

Why did Fat Joe have to mouth off about G~unit and have to start stuff. Of course he knew that 50 cent was going to say something back at the end of his performance. 50 is right what he called Fat Joe. He is a big FAT Pussy. I bet that instead of hitting the party's, 50 and Dj. Whoo Kid went into the studio to finish the war. Thanks Fat Joe.... another money maker for G~Unit you tardo!

#12 — August 29, 2005 @ 12:16PM — eriqo

TERRIBLE!!

That was one of the worst VMA awards i ever watched. Diddy made a terrible host. He kept saying 'anything can happen'. I don't know if its just me but did anyone see anything.

I think most of the awards went to the right people like Missy, Ciara, Fall out boy and God knows Green Day deserved every award they got. Those guys ROCK.
However i do not think that Kanye or Kelly deserved any of their awards though they did give the best perfomances of the night.

#13 — August 29, 2005 @ 12:29PM — NjHamilton

I think Fat Joe is a bitch. He would get messed up by the G UNIT crew. Also I am tired of all the "Regaeton" or whatever this crap is. Gunit should first kick Fat Ass Joe in the mouth and then all his little friends he bought up on stage that suck!

#14 — August 29, 2005 @ 12:58PM — boywonder1

fat joe had it coming u no 50 aint gonna back down like that, it was mad funny wot him and yayo said, fat joe and terror squard are finished

#15 — August 29, 2005 @ 13:08PM — TL

fat joe IS a pussy...just like 50 yelled from his seat, when fat joe was walking off stage...

#16 — August 29, 2005 @ 14:04PM — Yowza

Whatever the hell R. Kelly was doing on stage was not only ridiculous, but went on for WAYYYY TOO LONG. Seriously, I was just sitting there with my mouth open in shock. Do people really like this $hit?

And people wonder why some say hip-hop is ruining the music industry...

#17 — August 29, 2005 @ 14:13PM — proudlatina

I agree with most people that the show wasn't that great, but it wasn't so bad either. I was really pleased to see some REGGEATON performers like Daddy Yankee,Don Omar, etc...And I really love Shakira and Alejandro Sanz's big performance, they were great; they always give a amazing show by the way.
I didn't like that Diddy hosted the show and most of the performers in the awards suck really bad like those stupid punk "artist not". I tought that Missy Eliot trully deserved her award. Hopefully, next year's awards will be a lot better and with better performences.

#18 — August 29, 2005 @ 14:22PM — eriqo

to proudlatina

I don't mean to be offensive and stuff since you are latino (i'm guessing from your name) but i think that the latino guys did more to spoil the show than to make it more interesting. Other than Yankee, i've NEVER heard of any of the others who performed and honestly wouldn't like to.

Missy did deserve her award, didn't she.

#19 — August 29, 2005 @ 14:38PM — Tan The Man [URL]

At least Coldplay performed.

#20 — August 29, 2005 @ 14:42PM — eriqo

Yea, that was a real highlight in the VMAs

#21 — August 29, 2005 @ 14:50PM — Jose

P. Diddy, sucked as usual. Fat Joe came off with some class, 50 and Yayo had nothing to say but f*** this and fat that. Fat Joe is an Industry veteran with more respect and love than 50 will ever get. 50 has no talent, he had one good album and that was it. He thought cause he made a few hits he could start calling people out, but he ain't got that kind of clout. He don't watch his step he's gonna be blackballed from the industry. He fell off the map once, he's lucky he was able to make a comeback, it could happen again.

#22 — August 29, 2005 @ 15:24PM — Tube

um 2 words about Eva Longoria.......camel toe

#23 — August 29, 2005 @ 15:45PM — eriqo

I have a feeling camel toe isn't a good thing to say about someone.

Antway, i thought she was the Hottest chic at the VMAs...after Ciara, off course.

#24 — August 29, 2005 @ 15:59PM — Tube

Well, if she wears something like she did ( I agree she was hot), she'll get some comments like that and that is an understatement.

#25 — August 29, 2005 @ 18:37PM — BA

I thought the VMA's was alright. Fat joe's a good rapper andI aint mind his comment bout 50 to much. It was a friendly "insult." And i got love for 50 but he's starting to get really annoying. it was annoying when he was like F#$ck! Fat Joe and callin' him pussy. Dont 50 got anything else beter to do? He thinks he's so tough.

#26 — August 29, 2005 @ 18:55PM — Laney

Okay, I agree with a few of the above comments but can I firstly argue that Kelly Clarkson DID deserve her awards!!! It's the VIDEO music awards, with the emphasis on VIDEO and her video for Since U Been Gone does exactly what a video should do, it totally enhances the song. Her performance was awesome, and not just another crowd of over-hyped under-talented rappers bigging each other up on stage. It was fantastic to hear the track performed on a more 'rock'level, with Clarkson's voice amazing as ever. She actually got the crowd involved and although yes, she did fall over, I just watched the post-show interview with her and it was because she stepped on a piece of glass. It was a great end to, let's face it, a very lukewarm affair. Just a note to finish, Diddy (as that's what you're calling yourself now) bit of advice, you will never win any dance off, ever, especailly not against Omarion, cause erm, you can't move at all!!! Anyway, back to praising Kelly Clarkson...

#27 — August 29, 2005 @ 19:02PM — Jay

does anyone know what exactly was said between 50 and Fat Joe..or where to find out what was said? I've heard bits and pieces..trying to catch the whole thing.

new zealand hard

#30 — August 29, 2005 @ 20:43PM — BA

Fat joe when he went up to present some latino artists made a G rated friendly comment meant to take a stab at 50 cent. He said "I just wanna say how safe i feel tonight with all this police presence courtesy of G-unit" 50 cent after he performs with tony yayo says "fat joe is a pussy. F*%ck fFat joe!" and other stuff like that. mtv didn't show the whole thing.

#31 — August 29, 2005 @ 22:29PM — Felipe

All I have to say is, BRING BRITNEY BACK

#32 — August 29, 2005 @ 22:47PM — John Bill [URL]

It would have been better if they just had Shakira dancing the whole show.

#33 — August 30, 2005 @ 11:59AM — Victor Lana [URL]

MTV started by playing "Video Killed the Radio Star." I'm old enough to remember, was in love with Martha Quinn, and spent a good deal of the 80s watching the channel.

But I think the truth is clear the way things are going, so I am writing a song:

"MTV Killed the Video Star."

#34 — August 30, 2005 @ 21:53PM — brittany

what was said to fat joe the night of the music awards????????

#35 — August 31, 2005 @ 00:27AM — mike

i think jose is right about fat joe he is better than 50 and all of Gunit fat joe is vet at this shit, how come they didnt say nothing about GAME cuz game will tear shit up and they know it and besides GAME has talked more shit to G-unit than anyone else they shoulda said something about G-unit
GGGG-Unot!!!!!!!!!

#36 — August 31, 2005 @ 00:38AM — Beast

It's about time this Hip-Hop crap gets put on the back burner. I think it really lowers the IQ the more you listen to it. All the Hip Hop heads that I know are pretty stupid. And now, our future leaders are being taught self-defeating and flat out wrong behavior through these animals, who really don't care about their own communities. Why don't Hip Hop artists(if you can call them that) talk about the problems of our country right now. We all need to face this wrongful government together, but no, we have to listen to these criminals/people that can ryhme talk about how much money they have and how much better they are than everyone yet they hardly speak english. Go home Hip Hop, it was cool in the beginning, but now it just shows how sub-human people(nothing to do with color) can become rich. Peace YO

#37 — August 31, 2005 @ 00:54AM — Sam Jack [URL]

Beast, you gotta pick the right hip-hop artists. There are mediocre musicians in every genre. Try some Outkast or Gorillaz if you're looking for intelligent hip-hop. There hasn't been a really good political album, I think, since Fear of a Black Planet. American Idiot comes close, but it's not popular for the politics, it's popular for the tunes. The lack of social consciousness is across all musical genres, not just hip-hop.

#38 — August 31, 2005 @ 00:55AM — Leoniceno [URL]

I mean a really good -popular- political album, that is.

#39 — August 31, 2005 @ 01:52AM — Beast

OK. I do like Gorrilaz and Outkast. They have great(not too offensive)talent. I am focused on the wannabe gangsters. That is what the children are emulating. It is plain wrong. Tough topic to talk, without someone calling me a racist or something. But I believe I speak with fairness against the culture of Hip Hop, not a certain type of person. These idiots get to have it all, for spreading hate. Its time to start "Dissing" the gangster rap, boycott, and put these low lifes back in the hole they crawled out of. Biggest problem in American culture... Political Correctness. Somethings are true, and need to be said. The gangsta rappers need to be stopped. But what do I know? I'm just some whiteboy.

#40 — August 31, 2005 @ 03:46AM — kelkel

I thought the awards were way too long. Me and my friend covered our eyes and our mouths stayed open in embarrassment for R kellys horrific lipsyncing fiasco. Did you notice when diddy would praise the performances of the night he never once mentioned R kelly? I think Kelly clarkson looked hot as ever and deserved her awards. Whoever has been a fan of hers since AI know that her voice is amazing and I thought she made the closing song of the night energetic and entertaining. I love her album!! the awards were otherwise a bit boring.

#41 — August 31, 2005 @ 06:34AM — t-jay [URL]

well i think that 50cent juzz over reacted to what Fat Joe sed, it was juzz a minor joke, and shoudn't have taken that seriously anwyay.. much Respect for g g g g unit!! but they need to chill outta a bit,

and for earlier commet by beast!!, hip hop shoud't b taken seroiusly, it juzz entertainment, if u do?? then ur the one whoz stupid..peace out

#42 — August 31, 2005 @ 06:35AM — Jonny Davison

I am very disapproving of everyone saying that this years show was awful infact, i loved it! r.kellys performance of 'trapped in the closet' had me on the edge of my seat when presumably, part 6 was played, i loved it. also diddy and snoop dogg doing notorious b.i.g's 'juicy' was awesome, well done mtv.

#43 — August 31, 2005 @ 13:43PM — micola

50 cent is a big disgrace to the industry. he thinks becos he made so money hes a king. how can he make such statements. Fat joe just made the world see how stupid 50 cent really is. fat joe dissed him diplomatically. he should have done thesame but rather he reacted like a lil girl. am ashamed of 50 cent. i used to love him but he is a disappointment. if he is that tough why use cops. what fat joe said was true and so fat joe is no pussy. but a stand up guy.

#44 — August 31, 2005 @ 13:43PM — Mon

Diddy as host sucked! Panning to the audience who was so irritated was bad for TV. His stupid dance off was so beyond lame .. the bit of MC Hammer could have been cool, if it was building on something. I thought the reggaeton artists were going to do a song together which would have been cool .. but how did a 1 minute showcase have to do with FAT JOE presenting best hip hop vide? No one was amused and you could tell. I had to flip channels as well ..caught the tail end of R Kelly .. what the?

#45 — August 31, 2005 @ 13:46PM — Mon

To erigo:

if you haven't heard of anyone beside Daddy Yankee - that's fine .. but in Miami that is the music! Nothing else compares .. they can't be in Miami and not have some reference to reggaeton. The population is mainly tropical (Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba ..) and that is the music to the young. The artists that came out are huge! HUGE .. they just weren't showcased properly. Open your eyes to know there are more than just what you hear on your preset station.

#46 — August 31, 2005 @ 13:55PM — Tyler

The awards were terrible and they just keep getting worse and worse every year. Sean Combs turned the event into the fucking Source awards and favored mostly shitty rap acts and junk like what R. Kelly did, that rediculous pathetic dance off thing and the vast majority of the show, which generally revolved around him. This was entire show was laughable, it was boring, and so bad that it was frightening to watch because the VMA awards were always suppose to be about the youth, the non-mainstream, the shit neglected from Grammy's (which kicked the VMA's ass last year) and its turned into the worst of the bunch now, all about money and shitty top forty music. Does Rock music exist on MTV anymore? Hell, the mine as well just do what BET does because thats what it felt like I watched. It was awful. This is suppose to be music.

#47 — August 31, 2005 @ 15:02PM — zuby

fat joe fucked by saying that.is he afraid cos i thought he said he aint gonna talk to 50 cent again.

#48 — August 31, 2005 @ 17:14PM — jay

i can't believe the media (and everyone else) hasn't slammed mariah for lip-synching half of her lousy performance. don't get me wrong, i usually LOVE her - but her "ashlee" move was bad!! i mean, just watch the video of her holding her finger to her ear so that she can hear herself "hit the high note." she's obviously not really singing that... bad, bad judgement on her part.

kelly clarkson was the highlight of the vma's. she deserved her awards (was honestly shocked and humbled by it - very non-LA of her), and although her voice wasn't tiptop during the performance - she rocked it out... and as always, not once lip-synching. take note, mariah carey.

#49 — August 31, 2005 @ 23:26PM — Fernando

The VMA's weren't that bad. The Reggaeton artists should have done a song, Diddy could have been a better host, and 50 Cent should relax, with all respect. Thumbs up for Gorillaz winning Breakthrough video.

Yo, I cannot read what you are writing. Please punctuate your sentences. I do agree with what I think you were saying. 50 Cent is mad lame and contradictory. His image is mad phony and it's obvious from that kool-aid is pumping through his arteries. Please take notes kids, Faking will make you look like an ass and so does long run on sentences.

#55 — September 1, 2005 @ 19:02PM — silentreaper

Due to the low ratings that this years show got I assume that the hip/hop era on MTV is slowly but surely coming to an end on the music awards. Although I don't like green day they did or tried to revitalize punk as of now punk is nothing more than grunge boy bands.

#59 — September 3, 2005 @ 11:16AM — Laney

Okay, so all the friggin' hip hop was shite at the VMAs cause that's all there was basically! It's so annoying that amid all the talent in the music industry all they could get were that sorry bunch. Shakira, My Chemical Romance and Kelly Clarkson are the only performers I can even remember cause the rest were all one big blanket of boring and over-hyper rap-crap. I'm sorry, I would normally put Greenday on that list too, but to open the VMAs with Boulevard Of Broken Dreams was a huge misstep. What a way to put us to sleep instantly! American Idiot would have rocked! Please MTV, bring back a bit of diversity into the selection of artists performing at these things, PLEASE!!!!!!!!

#60 — September 3, 2005 @ 16:46PM — disgusted

Gave up on MTV a long time ago - remember when the M actually stood for music? In the beginning you could turn to that channel and 9 times out of 10 they actually were playing MUSIC, rather than all of the idiotic crap they have on there now. I turned on the awards show for a few minutes here and there and was quickly reminded why I never watch this annoying channel anymore. Apparently this is what is important in hip hop:
Proving that your jewelry is more expensive than anyone else's.
Proving that your car is more expensive than anyone else's.
Proving that your house is more expensive than anyone else's.
Proving that you can dance better than anyone else.
Proving that you're badder than anyone else.
Refusing to speak well or write well enough for anyone to be able to understand what the hell you're saying.

Given the above, Sean Coombs was the perfect host.

Hip hop is making it's fans into willing idiots, adequately proven just by reading some of the above comments. Hip hop artists are building their mansions and buying their $200,000 necklaces with YOUR money, and you all go for it like cattle. At least real music will always be available on CD, if not at awards shows such as this.

Note: none of the above has anything to do with skin color.

im just glad mariah performed. even if she did it different. she was rockin dat dress and hair! and just so all yall know. mariah hasent gone anywhere!. im sirious. she really can still hit that high note. she hits it when she records the song. she just dosent do it live i guss. but she can really sing. she is foucosing on singing more. not the high note that mutch. one day shell do a album with the REAL high note she does. and believe me its high! her voice has lost a little power but to me she sounds the same. the same glorious voice. so just be thankful that she did perform!

and for the people that said shit about rap
think again
cuz rap is running this music industry!

#65 — September 5, 2005 @ 13:24PM — laney

Rap is running the music industry? If that's true there's only one place for it to go, straight into the ground. Rap has no place at the video music awards for one reason, and one reason only. The videos are all the bloody same!! Here's a checklist; The rapper in question weighed down with a stupid amount of jewelery... check! Many scantily-clad beautiful women hanging off said rapper... check! The rapper's posse arsing around in the background for no other reason than to get exposure... check! Eminem was the only one who changed things up a bit (I say a bit 'cause he's guilty of all of the above) and no, it's not 'cause he's white, I'm not a racist. That's another thing, some of the comments I've read above seem to insinuate that if you say anything negative about black artists that you're a racist! Stop reading stuff into these comments. As soon as rap videos become more than ego-boosting tripe, I'll be more than happy to support them, but for now, as they're little more than porno toned down, I think I'll give them a miss. Oh and by the by, kudos to Kanye, his videos rock!

I would just like to say that i think 50 did the right thing in dissing fat joe. How can fat Joe be so stupid as saying something about 50 in the beginning anyway? Of course he's gonna dis you right back. I thought the VMA's were a little boring. They should have had more diverse performances, but right now you have to admit, hip hop is the biggest music around. 10 years ago you never saw any hip hop artists perform. Another thing, woulda loved to see Jay-Z perform seeing as how he is retiring and all. And just to respond to laney, what about the games video for dreams? best video out there.

Also, i wish dave chapelle could've hosted

#68 — September 5, 2005 @ 14:40PM — Tahneen

I only say part of the show and thought it was okay. green day kinda got annoying after winning so many times n that song is annoying now they should have played a better hit, so i agree with the critic. i was surprised gwen stefani didnt perform, she had a big year and it would have woken the audience up. Destiny's Child should have also performed, since this is their last cd as a group they should have done something. the whole 50 cent thing against fat joe was funny. R.Kelly has lost his mind and all his fans r crazy 2. did u see him ? he looked like a freak, he needs to quit while hes ahead. i luv rap and think kanye west did a good job, and so did Ludacris. P.Diddy , sorry Diddy was kinda annoying. kelly clarkson was good thou. Overall nothing really excited happened...MTV def needs to shake it up next year, and where was mariah carey? like hello they need to look at the charts to pick their performers and green day, i dont think deserved to win video of the year, cuz it was a stupid video.

#69 — September 6, 2005 @ 03:55AM — que

man all this bitchin is fu**ed. im a huge hip hop fan and hve been for a good 12 years....i totally agree with the vids all bein the damn same but all the descent worthwhile music that has any sorta positive message just dont get played but thats the industry u cant rely on that to sell records...if ur an artist sellin 200,000 an album ur gettin the hell outta there, these companys want numbers . i think artist are forced into the situation that they need to make bullshit music just to sell records....50 is the pefect example how u gunna diss joe, jada and the game just before u release an album just to create some hype...joe would physically tear 50s pussy into peices, jadas lyrically above anything 50 could dream of and lets not speak of the game give him a year or 2 and hell be bigger then 50 is now. since pac and big everyones tried to be too gangsta and act tough so thank god for artists like kanye, outkast and shit even the fat ass bizzare whoes doin somethin different. i need a break from hearin and sein 50 holdin a fuk'n cartoon gun in his damn clips please..thats only shit he ever gunna shoot i dont care how many time u been shot if u live u live if u dont u dont dont mean ur stronger then anyone just had a bit more luck but anyway we need to get diddy thye hell on coz hes just makes me wanna jump into the screen and takle his stupid ass into the crowd, i like commedians hosting it ads a little flavour to the show even if they know nuthin bout music and can someone please tell snoop he can stop tryin to be all hood, in his ups and downs clip his in some lil ass house. bet he aint seen the ghetto in a good 15 years and im guarentein thatr was filmed in a hollywood studio

Okay, in response to Eroc's comment bout the Game's video, yes it is good but it just didn't pop into my head when I was writing. Just a thought on the whole Fat Joe, 50 Cent thing. Surely 50 could have been the bigger man and ignored Fat Joe's comments? Is it possible that the reason he was shot (haven't a clue why it happened) was for mouthing off etc, and as was said above, he should grow and mature from such events? I don't know 'bout you, but I kinda think the whole rap rivalry thing is a bit stupid. Let bygones be bygones and no one else is going to be shot or injured etc. I used to live near a similar situation (you hurt my family, I'll kill yours) in Northern Ireland and I still fail to see the benefit of blowing each others' brains out. 50, Fat Joe, grow up and revel in the fact that you've more money than a human being should possess and millions of adoring fans. The fact that you don't appreciate your lives enough to keep yourselves safe is like a kick in the teeth for those killed in the devastation that was 9/11, the St.Stephen's Day Tsunami, the London Bombings, or more recently Hurricane Katrina. Some people die in accidents, don't disrespect them by inviting death!!!

fat joe made a classy comment and fitty retaliated its his own fault he know's he shudnt fuck wit fitty, he said he didnt want to cause any drama but he did and its own fault narm sayin

#73 — September 15, 2005 @ 04:38AM — Hetley

about the comment : 50 cent : you faggots saying oh 50 thinks he's tough etc etc etc... i'd enjoy to see you reherce those comments to his face, he's been shot 9 times you fuckin idiots, if that isn't tough then when is? if he isn't so tough, i'd love to see you rap off, stupid little computer geeks sitting in the mofuckin safety of their parents basement

first of all i wanna tell ur bitch ass that 50 got shot 9 times plus got knifed by blackchild a member of murder inc .. he comes to the stage surrounding the place with bodyguard 50 aint tough he aint a killer he's a victim he's scared two .. Fat Joe NEVER had a bodygaurd in his whole life man .. he aint brittney spears he doesnt need no bodyguard .. the fact that all the police protection courtesy of g-unit came to the place like usual is more proof that 50 is the pussy ..

#76 — September 25, 2005 @ 01:59AM — Jack

Come on guy get your head out your ass, your blinded by 50, Getting shot 9 times doesn't mean that your tough, it only mean that somebody shot you 9 times. Your probably going through a wanna be ganster crisis right now, but you have to understand that 50 is a rapper and not a gangster,If you know some real gangsters, you should know what they are about and what their lifestyles are about, and 50 is not living that life. It's just entertainment guy take it for what it is and not what yout want it to be.

#77 — September 28, 2005 @ 16:18PM — Aftermath

Fat Joe is a Pussy. I bet he said what he did cause his career is going down the shit tube so he needed to stir beef up with 50 to replenish his career.
So off course 50 would dish out an insult. What the hell did you expect from him? You cant blame 50. But now that this has happened..50 will tear Fat Joe's ass up n his lil terror squad pussies..Straight up.

#78 — September 29, 2005 @ 23:03PM — Jack

Come on 50 cents is not that lyrical, his record sales has nothing to do with his lyrical skills, If it was Game, Loyyd banks or Eminem, I would agree, but not 50. I agree that Fat joe is not the best lyricist neither, but 50 can forget about the other rappers he is beefing with (Nas,Jadakiss,Game) will eat him alive.

#79 — September 30, 2005 @ 00:14AM — G D

Look at all these Joey Crack haters, 50 blah blah he wack simple as that he cant rap, has good producer to makes his beat so it sounds good give N E goof a nice beat and they rap sound aight cause of the flow..Its not hard to understand. All im saying is there no way possible or realisticly thinking that 50 is better then Crack..Jada, Game is better then Crack thats true but 50 aint even on joe level..Come on you cant say 50 can rap and if u do say that he can, man i hate to see what u think good rap is..

#80 — September 30, 2005 @ 00:17AM — Keep it real

"JOEY CRACK ALL THE WAY".
I HERD 50 SUCK SOME DUDE DICK BACK IN THE DAY HE DIDINT GET SHOT IN THE MOUTH HE GOT CUM IN HIS MOUTH THATS THE TRUTH !!

#81 — September 30, 2005 @ 00:29AM — Soilder

o0o0o0o 50 got shot 9 times blah blah he surive. Soilder been blown in Iraq and they dont get no creditbility. Only thing that went wrong when 50 got shot is that he didnt stay dead!

50 wack . Join the U.S Army and see what a man really is..

#82 — October 2, 2005 @ 01:11AM — Jack

50 is not the best rapper, I agree with that, but he doesn't suck, I think that guy's here are not making sense, the level of rap nowadays is lower due to show business, rappers rap to sell now, so they compromise their skills to make money. I just don't see what 50 getting shot 9 times has to do with soldiers getting blown in Irak, when you become a soldier you become a product of the country therefore you serve for who ever is in command,
if the person in command is a good guy (Bill Clinton)then your serving for a good guy, if is he's a crook(George W.Bush)than your serving for a crook, if your talking sympathy, you should have sympathy for those innocent people killed in Irak, but soldiers it's there job to kill and get kill for the commander's means, All you know about is how many U.S soldiers died, what you don't know is how many people they killed.
If you ask me I don't know what U.S soldiers are doing in Irak?
I'm not gonna have more respect for 50 cents if joints the U.S army, At least now he is controlling his own destiny, whatever he is doing it's because he thinks it's the right thing to do and he's not just a puppet.

i relyy love bow wpw and ciara. are they ever gonna come to toledo. please do

#84 — November 2, 2005 @ 17:50PM — waytomuchhaters [URL]

I think you all just need to stop calling names and get over it. From what I've read some of you if you want to call names and diss people you need to learn how to spell and use correct English. Green Day totally diserved all of their awards and so did everyone else who won awards. Why do you think they won? A majority of the people liked them and VOTED for them. Kelly did a really good job but you couldn't understand most of the song because she was out of breath. But rock on Kelly.True the VMA's were terrible this year. They need more music diversity. I've listened to both Fat Joe and 50Cent and, personally, I think neither one is the better person. Rap just all sounds the same to me. Talking about sex and how many women they can pick up. Kanye seems to be the only individual left.
