In Case of Emergency: Cell Phone Tip from Paramedics

This comes from a contact of mine at GE Healthcare who learned it from one of their safety officers. I had assumed cell phones would be a link to identity in emergencies and did label some numbers for this purpose, but this appears to be one additional step we can take.
"Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.
Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. Please ICE
your cell phone NOW!"

Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful indeed. I don't have a cell phone but my boyfriend does, and will make him put this in right when he comes home
ICE is a great idea...I just added an ICE sticker to my cell phone! Go to their site. And, the stickers are raising money for a good cause.
I.C.E. is a great idea but it is not enough�
- What if your cell phone is lost or damaged in an accident?
- What if you do not have a cell phone or have it with you at the time I.C.E. is needed?
- What if your emergency contacts are not available when the First Responders try to call?
- What if the buttons are locked?
First Responders need more than just I.C.E.
The Med Alert Card is more reliable than I.C.E. and provides more vital information.
