Bob Seger - Smokin OPs
Remastered and reissued, Smokin' OP's is a reminder of how much fun it is to listen to Bob Seger. Even before he proclaimed himself of lover of old time rock 'n' roll in a song by the same title, Seger expressed that same sentiment through his rockin' delivery on each song on this disc.

Starting with "Bo Diddley", Seger cranks out some serious 'I gotta dance!' music. He shares with the listener his version of "Love The One You're With" and does a damn fine job of it. Passing over the rest of the covers (which are all terrific), we get to the last two songs on the CD, both original tunes - "Someday" and "Heavy Music." Having grown up on "Heavy Music", I must say that this is a real treat to hear it with such vibrant clarity. Have I mentioned how much I love remasters?

While Smokin' OP's isn't full of Bob Seger's greatest hits, and you have to scream "who cares? It's still awesome!", this is an essential CD for any rock lover's archive.

By the way, it should be noted that this disc has been enjoyed by three generations of my family. I've had to threaten my own father with revoked grandparental rights to get it back

Former Baywatch babe, Playboy centerfold, and stunt double for Abe Vigoda, Managing Editor of Blogcritics and member of the board of directors for BLUSD, Joanie juggles her love of words, music, photography, wildlife, and television with her greatest love -- her kids. In a perfect, non-Mitty-esque world, her days would be elastic, allowing her to accomplish everything on her "to do" list.

You got it. This CD is killer. I am having some difficulty pinning down the date, but Back in 72 has also been remastered and set for release this year - Aug 16 is the date I have heard. It has never been released on anything other then LP/8 track/Reel to Reel. This will be a gem, with the original versions of Turn the Page and I've Been Workin' along with the title cut and a classic version of Midnight Rider. Also, Seger's long awaited new release is set for Nov 8 this year and it is titled "Face the Promise". Just thought I would pass this along to you

Thanks for the info, Paul! I'm looking forward to more early recordings of my favorite artists being reissued - it's like coming home, you know? Familiar, yet sort of new all at the same time. Can't beat that!

hey,
I just purchased this cd and it is everything that tracy said it was!
I had the pleasure of having Mr. Skip Knape's spouse in a band in the early 70's. She was beautiful and sang like no other!
the cd brought chill's down my spine because it sounded so real to me from livin' in that time frame.
as tracy said, we had some really good times.
love always,
Johnie

I have this in the old record collection. Good tunes.
