Reasons to Hate MySpace

Written by Brandon J. Mendelson

MySpace is like a heroin addiction without the upside. If you visit Gorilla Mask's meaning for each type of MySpace photo you'll see the first part of the problem. No one knows how to take a picture anymore. Essentially there are four types of pictures found on My Space. The trendy "I can take pictures off myself in the mirror" photo, the "I'm way too ugly or trying to be too hip to use my real photo" image, the "I'm hideously deformed and want to use a picture of me from far away" photo, and the "look at my dog / booze / make up / left over crack" shot.

Just take a picture of yourself and use it. You shouldn't care what others think about your appearance, and if you have enough self confidence to post your profile on a site used by over five million people you have enough self confidence to post a photo of yourself. But don't use one of those four kinds of pictures. They're dumb, unoriginal, and I rather look at topographical maps than look at your uninspiring photo contribution to the world.

I've noticed a disproportionately larger amount of guys commenting on hot girls than there are girls commenting on hot guys. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it appears more common for the guys to be guilty of this. So guys listen up. Shut the fuck up. I'll repeat this in case you thought you misread me. Shut the fuck up. If you see a hot girl on MySpace, do whatever it is you were going to do with your hands and move on. Maybe if your balls have descended send her a message if you want. But there is nothing sadder than three pages or so of guys going on about how hot a girl is in a photo. It's like the sausage party that never was. The ability to comment on hot girls is not a free pass to make yourself and the rest of us sound like we're retarded. Girls don't like suck ups, and using such witty lines like "u r hottt" isn't going to do anything to boost your sex life. Click here for help on that.

This one is to girls specifically. If you say something like "contact me" at the end of your profile, don't be surprised or complain when some creepy loser who could pass for Gollum messages you. I saw a bunch of profiles where it was a hot girl who said something like "if you want a good time, contact me" and then she has a blog post complaining about people wanting to message her and add her as a friend. Well what the hell did you think was going to happen? Mr. Hot Guy to come and message you on MySpace? It's not going to happen. If you need MySpace to find a date you have bigger problems to deal with than this imaginary Mr. Right's penis size. Much bigger.

I didn't even read the whole review, but I love the book you chose to go with this post. Five Simple Steps To Emotional Healing, indeed!

Funny stuff.

#2 — July 7, 2005 @ 19:12PM — J [URL]

This entire post is amazing. Bravo.

#3 — July 7, 2005 @ 19:21PM — Cerulean [URL]

My Space is proof that a significant proportion of this country is brain dead. For some reason, a lot of females there are pretending to be sensuous and libidinous in a kind of brainless modern way because it is fashionable and a way to get attention. Civilization is dissolving.

#4 — July 7, 2005 @ 20:00PM — Tan The Man [URL]

Awesome, another person who reads Gorilla Mask.

HAHAHA.... Fun Stuff...

Heh Brandon, i chortled plenty there, man. i wrote a similar thing about the horrors of MySpace back in the day on www.mondoirlando.com I think it might still be linked at the bottom of the front page. i found it to be a half-wise reasonable experience, if only because for every million horrors there are a handful of truly wonderful folks worth bein in touch with. but a tiny handful, mind, amongst reams of depressing degredation.

#7 — July 8, 2005 @ 08:39AM — Nathan

My additions on to this topic:
Bands - I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK! If I wanted to hear your shitty ass screamo "band", I would have found you by now on purevolume or through a friend.

Getting messages - "Hey u r cute, u 1 2 talk some time?" will NOT get a response. I don't care if you are the hottest scene slut I've EVER seen. Internet-English is something that should be punishable by choke fucking someone to death.

As with everything on the internet, what was great 18 months ago is mundane today. Maybe I will just go the fuck back to Friendster.

#8 — July 30, 2005 @ 03:30AM — Electricity

You rant in a blog. And that makes you better? Oh, the possibilities.

#9 — August 5, 2005 @ 21:21PM — Who cares

Who really cares this article/post-up, proves that you have equal amount of time to do nothing but talk about the most retarded crap. No I do not have a myspace. Go write letters to your senators to do something good.

#11 — August 6, 2005 @ 23:19PM — jesse

Man, that article is dead on balls accurate. People who created a account on myspace had nothing better to do in the first place either. A congrugation mostly consisting of full blown losers who look for people to put on their 'friends' list that they don't even know....very pethetic

#12 — August 7, 2005 @ 00:39AM — Tan The Man [URL]

It might be a waste of time, but my brother and sister have already found people they lost contact with in grade school. Waste of time yes, but it also saves time in finding people.

#13 — August 7, 2005 @ 12:39PM — biG jAy

Wut the Hanes?? Sounds like someone's got a case of myspace crampyness!! Look just because you dont have any friends... spend friday nights at home... Jack off to J.Lo and have the worlds biggest Star Wars toy collection dosn't make you right... ok so everyone you try to add rejevts yo ass, maybe its because your ugly... but thats cool man dont hante the game, hate the playa HANEZ!!

#14 — August 9, 2005 @ 01:24AM — Bob Hartley

i have myspace. but i use it to stay in contact with my friends (just the people i know in real life) during the summer and maybe after i leave for college. it is a good place to have info on yourself and people you know can go checkup on you and maybe drop you a line. also, you can show all the douchs that have dissed on you all the hot girls you hang out with and leave you comments so they get jealous.

#15 — August 9, 2005 @ 03:55AM — Cerulean [URL]

I have been checking out Friendster and it seems a lot classier and less sleazy than MySpace, based on limited knowledge.

#16 — August 9, 2005 @ 05:03AM — -E [URL]

Eh, it has some redeeming values. One of the people listed in my fave bands found my profile and added me as their friend. Or at least someone working for him. And it is cool, because now I have an easy link to figure out when he comes through Austin again. That and a bunch of the arts organizations I'm involved with have an account on there to keep you up to date with their goings on.

But then again, I don't find any reasons to check it more than maybe once a month. I prefer TheFacebook, not so much of the spammy stuff going on.

#17 — August 9, 2005 @ 06:07AM — Cerulean [URL]

EDITORS The typeface is white here.
I actually read that in the white type. That sounds really cool. On Friendster a famous and very cute person actually has a profile there. That drew my attention to it.

#18 — August 19, 2005 @ 10:25AM — dee

the stuff u wrote made sense... but myspace isnt that bad!

#19 — August 23, 2005 @ 02:33AM — Anam

It's about time someone said it!And I just want to say that I consider myself to be a pretty and attractive girl but I don't have a myspace because I know I'm an intelligent and pretty girl and i don't need strangers to tell me me that and give me that confidence. I think most girls on Myspace who have pictures of them in their bikini's, bras and panties, or trashy party look just that . . . trashy, completely unattractive, and unintelligent. I think its ridiculous that girls who start myspace to keep in contact with their friends end up adding every single guy who tells them their "hottt" (spelled with not 1 t but 3) as their friend. When really they don't even have half as many friends in real life. To all of the Myspacers: get over yourself, you're not as pretty or cool as you think you are.

#20 — August 23, 2005 @ 04:22AM — Cerulean [URL]

Yeah, it's about young girls acting sleazy to get attention and power, more than anything. Not unique to MySpace but it reaches it's full flower there. It would be different if they just felt so sexy they could not control it, but I doubt that to be the case.

#21 — September 11, 2005 @ 11:07AM — taffy dave

i hate gayspace. Finally someone agrees.

#22 — September 11, 2005 @ 16:52PM — mary

haha i loved this.. i do have a myspace but everything you said bugs me about it too. its not my life, as it is some peoples' who spend hours on end just adding people so it can look like they're cool. And something you left out-- rambling on in the about me section about boring shit that no one cares for and then saying "im random". Girls loove to do that. and post 'sexy' (actually trashy) pics of themselves waiting desperately to hear responses. i really loved this--way to go

#23 — September 18, 2005 @ 03:40AM — Nikki [URL]

Thats fair nough, and I agree for the most part, but you have to agree that MySpace got it right with the simplicity. I have my own blog community and it took me months to convert users from MySpace over to mine. The network is built, people dont want to leave. Its easy for beginners. Someone did something right

#24 — September 21, 2005 @ 16:23PM — erika [URL]

myspace lacks democracy... they delete user accounts & info, forum threads without notice. people's account could be deleted for speaking truth.

I love myspace!! Ive had it for almost a year now. I have finally put my digicam to good use! I have met a lot of awesome. Im on almost every day! Nem, ill post on your myspace =)

#31 — October 18, 2005 @ 21:59PM — The Goat [URL]

the worst part about myspace is that people think they are outgoing and more down to earth than everyone because they meet people on the internet. How could you think you are more outgoing than another person because you meeet people online, thats like saying you are good at pool because you play virtual billiards

#32 — October 19, 2005 @ 09:10AM — katt

awesome article, very funny.
i myself have a myspace account because i like keeping up with my friends but i think people who take this site seriously are quite sad indeed. For instance people who meet a guy/girl on myspace and ask them out [on myspace] then claim they have a girlfriend/boyfriend, what the hell is that? can't you just meet someone you can actually have face to face conversations with? what is so wrong with you that you have to resort to the internet for relationships? and another thing what is all this emo photo crap? you take a picture with your head down and all of a sudden your emo and people actually bother doing this garbage? why take a photo of your head if your not showing your face?? just shut up and go find some other pathetic followers to slit your wrists with.
anyways good article i hope some myspace freaks read it and feel like idiots. i can see some already do^^

Horny losers + Internet Connection + semi-attractive girls = trouble

incorrect...

revision:

bored middle-aged critics + nearly nude teenagers + excess time = poorly written essay, not influencing a single soul, yet targeting an entire audience not paying attention. congratulations, you have yet again wasted seven and a half minutes of my life, where i could have kept my hands busy doing something else. like masturbating... get it? ooh, clever pun, right? i must say i agree fully with everything you said, but it is a waste of time to put it here, or anywhere else for that matter. myspacers DO NOT READ, not by choice, but because they are genetically unable to do so. i love you sir, please direct your causes toward something worthwhile.

my bandmate told tom off for spamming us about his record label, and then proceeded to tell him that his compilatiob sucked. tom deleted our band's profile.

MY SPACE SUCKS BIG TIME .....YOU spent worthless time creating your space and they end up deleting it anyways if not myspace then a hacker will end up deleting you...Most people add you as a number and won't even talk to you just freaken keep sending bulletins and beg you to add their friends

myspace is good and bad. it all depends on how you use it and who you want to be networked with and how private you want your settings to be. myspace can be use to find unheard music, to be creative with colors, images, songs on your profile, to express ideas, experiences, feelings, see if your poems are any good, to find events and things to do, to ask people how they like their college and question them about info you can't get from the college site, so many usefull things. a lot of things that people complain about are things under their control. you can practically anything that's unwanted (comments, messages, friends). you don't have to be fake and you don't have to be friends with fake people. you can even block the bands if you want. if the pictures disturb you don't go out of your way to look at them. a lot of people are just trying to be evocative, artsy, photographer photos. i don't see anything wrong with that only if the bad intentions and the fakedom and followerness shows through the picture. but yeah. myspace is only as good or bad as you allow it to be.

#41 — November 27, 2005 @ 19:25PM — Milly

Myspace is an embarrassment. I'm ashamed to have an account. I only use it to talked to my "IRL" friends and to keep me updated on local shows.
It's disgusting, everyone on there is all "I'm more scene than you" or "Look @ this sw8 pic of my left eye."

It's sad kids whoring themselves out.
Admit it.

#44 — November 29, 2005 @ 21:32PM — Lawrence Lim [URL]

All I see is a lot of hypocrisy and petty generalizations in this your opinion.

Sorry, but you get out of it what you put into it. Realistically, it's great for networking online and and in many instances offline as well. If you use it expecting it to fulfill some preconceived stereotype you've already developed, then that's what it will be.

I use MySpace, but I actually do meet many of the people I've met on there.

Perhaps you've had different experiences, but all I've drawn from your stated opinions is that:
a) You have a lot of time on your hands
b) You have no use for MySpace
c) Yeah.

Take this criticism with the best of my intentions.

#45 — December 1, 2005 @ 09:24AM — luisa

i somehow got to this page. i took the time to read it... and i thought it was pretty amusing.

fact: myspace has over a million users.
fact: there are over a millions idiots on this earth.

#46 — December 5, 2005 @ 13:42PM — Nic

I completely agree, I deleted my account as a healthy step to being well rounded x

#47 — December 5, 2005 @ 13:47PM — Chal

frickin lush post, totally agree, i used to have an account but it is no more and it is deffinatly for the better

#48 — December 5, 2005 @ 16:12PM — Jade [URL]

well some of the stuff you said is true but myspace rocks, its just a bit of fun no need to go on a mega rant bout it. You have your own view on iot which is fair enough and your article was amusing but liek i said ita bit of fun and your always going to get people which take it too far but then there are sonme of us who use it responsibly and enjoy it, i also have to agree i find it addictive!!

#49 — December 9, 2005 @ 02:17AM — Jen

This made me laugh- it's great writing, and so true. I got a myspace because I was graduating soon, wanted to keep in touch with people. Little did I know....now I'm addicted. Completely. I found this by googling "myspace addictions". I have become the typical myspace addict, minus the whoring myself through bad pictures and "add me/comment me" spam. And I have actually met, in real life a good 95% of the people on my friends list. But still.....logging into the stupid site 2-4 times daily can't be healthy.

#50 — December 9, 2005 @ 19:18PM — jus_me

i love mypsace! i've met a lot of great people on there. every single person i have on my list i know personally with the exception of a few bands i've added. i can understand how pointless it may seem to you if you come across people that live in some state and have friends from every other state out there ya know. thas jus dumb, those are people they will prolly never meet. i use myspace soley as a way to keep up with my friends. we're seniors in high school n have busy schedules between work, school, family things, and boyfriends/girlfriends. myspace is a great way to keep people informed of what's goin on.

#51 — December 11, 2005 @ 14:47PM — uninportant

The one intelligent thing that the administration of my school has done was to block MySpace. People really need to get lives.

#52 — December 12, 2005 @ 07:59AM — Rudy

haha great rant all of it pretty much true - myspace is more of a routine then something...pleasurable

#53 — December 13, 2005 @ 17:06PM — anti-myspace

Thank you for this article.

I HATE MYSPACE.

End of story.

#54 — December 21, 2005 @ 15:01PM — Agree

Thank you so much for understanding what I've been going through, because everyone I know has a stupid myspace. And they base their entire lives off of how many "friends" they have. Or my favorite, "hey check your myspace I sent you a message!" when that person is right there. And to all those who say that this post is "gay," I highly doubt that this post does in fact have sex with the same gender of post, if they have genders at all.

#55 — December 22, 2005 @ 18:14PM — Ellis Yu

Me and my friends are trying to make the blogging community aware of a stealth censorship campaign that is being conducted by MySpace. They are not admitting to it, and are trying to do this in secret.

For the last few days they have been trying to eradicate all mentions of the site YouTube from our profiles on MySpace. Tons of MySpace profiles have embedded YouTube videos because it is a great service, but now MySpace is feeling threatened by this site and is modifying member profiles to remove any mentions of it. If you mention YouTube in your MySpace profile it gets replaced with ".." We also can't discuss this on the boards because MySpace is censoring YouTube there as well!

There was an outcry by some members after MySpace's acquisition by News Corp. People were afraid they might start monitoring or censoring MySpace. At the time their CEO said that nothing like that would happen. Well, now it has. MySpace was built on an open community and now they are trying to censor us, putting business interests above its members! We are going to fight back.

See these links:

i fucking hate myspace, first fucking off it fukd me around for like 10 minutes, twice... then finally the cunt works, and its still anal. i dont get it? why its so gooood?? like fuck i can check out chixk profiles on msn and shit, maybe if your some fukn teeny bopper with no life thats white with black hair and has pimples instead of a nose, then yeaa maybe it would be good for you. but apart from that i give it 0 out of 10

#58 — December 24, 2005 @ 02:30AM — Breanna

if you think about it; the only people posting trashy half naked pictures are under 15, the only people posing in your pathetically described poses are digustingly ugly; and the only people on myspace worth giving a damn about-are your friends.
it's the only way to communicate with people who've moved or whom you lost touch with.

#59 — December 24, 2005 @ 10:50AM — Davis

I almost deleted mine but then i read Breanna's and realize I have several family members from other states that I keep in touch with, and there are still many intelligent people on myspace for instance, Breanna. Most are completely retarded and are like robots the way they all look the same, dont give them attention and they might stop cutting they're wrists, or succeed

#60 — December 26, 2005 @ 15:53PM — Bob A. Booey [URL]

Breanna's a hot name :) Congratulations on that and thank your parents if you're hot to go along with your hot name.

#65 — February 9, 2006 @ 17:56PM — Courtney

...You know, I've been Googling "I hate Myspace" today, just to see what I come up with. It's funny, but half the things I look at, people are like "I hate Myspace!" and then have one anyway. Which was me. When I actually had a Myspace. I deleted mine sometime in December (after all, the best way to fix a problem is to kill the source, right?), and I've actually been HAPPIER without it. No kidding.
MYSPACE IS THE EPITOME OF LAME.
THE EFFING END.
It's addicting, and now if it's getting to the point where some people feel you can't have a SOCIAL LIFE without a Myspace? I have no words for them. Only sounds of me vomming in a corner.
Oooh, look at how many friends I have. Oooh, I'm on ten MILLION people's top 8's. Oooh, I have new PICTURE COMMENTS and I'm so hot and ooooooh.
...Those people need to get a life. Seriously.
Myspace has become like a plague. It's the new Black Death. Oy.

#66 — February 28, 2006 @ 16:06PM — Jet

This article hit My Space on the nail. I mean what is My Space good for and what do people use it for? I'm sure the sole purpose of My Space is to stalk people on it. What's even more bizzare is that I found a t-shirt which says "Stalk me on My Space"

#67 — March 11, 2006 @ 02:11AM — skullcandy

I have met one of the largest myspace whores...it's a female starting with an "F" (ending with an "n") and she is quite rude and stuck up, actually mean to people. I think it would be funny to delete her profile since it is her life and now her fake career...how do you hack into an account ? :)

#68 — March 13, 2006 @ 16:08PM — Nando Roy

Spot on. Everything you say rings true, i had a Myspace profile and just added close REAL friends on it, then i realised why the fuck do i need myspace to contact my real friends? isnt it just better to call them or MSN?

thats all i have to say on the matter

#69 — March 15, 2006 @ 20:13PM — Kiiim

I HATE MYSPACE!! Sadly, I use my cousin's account to stalk my boyfriend, just to see what these little myspace loser girls post on his profile so we have something to fight about. I'm anti-social and could give a shit less about what people think of me and i don't care if i lose track of people i knew in high school, which is why i don't have a profile. The Internet can be a great tool but Myspace is putting too many kids in danger of being stalked by perverted old men. I've seen one profile of a 15 year-old girl posing in her underwear clutching her breasts. I don't want to know how many other profiles are like this. Quite disturbing.

#70 — March 17, 2006 @ 22:45PM — Asharak

Well said

I have to say though, Isn't my space for kids in Middle School? Seriously! I remember when I was thirteen and couldn't wait to get home and log on and chat with my friends on every instant messenger ever created! No, I don't have a problem with instant messengers, but isn't that the age where you do that kind of stuff? I mean you have nothing else to do with your life cause you can't drive or go anywhere. I seriously think that it's immature and I stopped doing that stuff when I was in HIGH SCHOOL. Yeah that's right because I could actually drive and SEE my friends instead of wasting my time on the computer and looking at my space. Can we say IMMATURE?? I do think though, that the internet is a good tool for research, I use it for lots of things but not to embarrass myself. And here's a tip for everyone who waste's their time on crap such as my space:

GET A LIFE!

It's easy: go out with your friends, maybe out to dinner, go see a movie, read a good book, go walk your dog and even better get your fat ass some exercise!!

I FUCKING HATE MYSPACE.... DAMN YOU STUPID PEOPLE NEED TO GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!I REALLY HOPE THIS SHIT ENDS AND LIFE WILL MEAN SOMETHING AGAIN SOMEDAY BEFORE I DIE!!!!

#72 — March 26, 2006 @ 18:50PM — Carmela

I am so glad I'm not the only one who thinks myspace is gay. It's like high school all over again. People are so pathetic, it's quite shocking and sad. It's all about wanting others to think your cool, posting hot pics of yourself, and having a ridiculous amount of "friends".

I could easily do the same, but I won't. Everyone seems to have the same mentality these days.I feel like everyone is going to rely on the internet to meet people. One of the excuses I hear of decent people who have a profile on there is that they use it to communicate with friends. Whatever happened to email?..........Everyone I know is on myspace.....I'll be glad to remain the small percentage who isn't...

#73 — March 28, 2006 @ 20:57PM — Jhazon [URL]

I created a myspace account for some of the group discussion but found the most users are lazy bastard and the servers/admin are just as lazy (talk about connection problems and poor design!) I get more of an intelligent conversation talking to my dog.

#74 — March 29, 2006 @ 13:37PM — Ty

I use myspace solely to reconnect with people I went to high school with. There are about 60 something people from my class of 251. I also reconnect with people I went to college with... I don't see the harm in that.

#75 — March 29, 2006 @ 13:50PM — Doesent matter what my name is

I have one only for the purpose of keeping in touch with my family and friends... But! i cant help but notice how annoying and retarded people are and how they abuse it.. Taking pictures of your abs or posing as if your a playboy model is just more than enough evidence of showing how full of yourself you really are. Low lives with nothing better to do than comment on pictures of little girls and girls who are low enough to post slutty pictures. Well all of you mother fuckers can die tomorrow and rot in hell for all i care!

#76 — March 29, 2006 @ 19:44PM — Samantha

myspace = narcissism run amuck.

#77 — March 29, 2006 @ 20:25PM — sleepy

thank god for this writer.
myspace sucks fucking ass.
where is the human interaction.
i'm so sick of all the bands that are "almost signed" or the next big thing.
it is a good ol'boy network for bands, very fake and very rub my back i'll rub yours.
also, it is generic, i miss bands orginal webpages, it's like fucking starbucks, watering down art.
please let this trend end!

Yes, MySpace indeed sucks; it's like a train wreck, though, I admit.

ok I have to say PURE genius. I've been talking all this crap and stuff about myspace (even thought I have one myself) but i have never been able to put it into my own words. Again GENIUS!
I pretty much agree with all that u just said. Most of the stuff on there though dosnt bother me except the chain letters OH MY JESUS CHRIST! Give it a rest people. Do you really think I actually think I believe that if i dont send this to my top 14 people I love that im going to rot in hell...I dont think so. I personaly want to message that single person back saying " Now, honistly, do you think I give a fuck?!" Thanks for this again it gave me about 5 min. of freedom from myspace...

By the way you forgot to add to the pictures:

1. Every white person has to have there "Gangsta" picture
2. Every kid has to have there eMo/Scene picture
3. Everyone has to have there what me call the "half face picture"

On principle I don't even own a MySpace account, and this is from just seeing what the people that DO in fact own one are like. It's either disturbingly slutty pre-teen girls, gender confused emo kids, pervy older men looking for the latter and bands who don't know you can put music on websites OTHER than MySpace.
That's why although I am impressed there are humans on there who didn't decide that sanity and common sense where optional, its still not going to get me to join MySpace. Either get a Livejournal, a poor man's blog or a Blog, the intelligent man's MySpace.

#81 — April 2, 2006 @ 14:29PM — DJ Alibi

Helped me find some really great old friends, Helped
me Network with other DJ's & Producers after moving to another state, Actually has helped me get a few gigs, but as far as promoting, NO, there is too much
competition and so many people on myspace whoring/spamming/faking, that your bulliten about your radio show is long gone by the time your friends read it, I try to keep it real and only add
people that I have met in real life, but a couple have squeezed passed, this on dude was added cause he is a friend of a friend , but now i got a ton of bullitens posted by him to add some 15 year olds n shit, whats up with that? and yes Im addicted, only because I moved to a new State and it helps me keep up with my friends where I used to Live, and when the F%^& is this dude gonna fix the IM's, that was the only real feature, , maybe yahoo and MSN got pissed at them for using it so they asked him to kill it? lol who knows, anyway, just some of my views, its good, its bad, its ugly, hahahaa

#82 — April 4, 2006 @ 11:48AM — zoomlens

myspace=poseur central. A place to find people who you will never meet in person. MySpace is so 1st generation in terms of html/website building. It's blocky, uncoordinated, and the bandwidth is small. Wanna get creative? Go to flickr if you want to post photos, there's real art there. I remember the big push about ten years ago in chat rooms all across the web where everyone had their homepage. That died down, and now, it's got a renaissance. Only one problem--it's one huuuuuuuuuuuge webpage called MySpace. So, instead of having one's own unique url, you get to be a #247 on superflygal's list. And the editin code? Please! Now everyone's a darn website building pro. Not to mention, Rupert Murdoch owns this website, so I guess it's "fair and balanced", like Fox. MyShoelace, MyDisgrace, MyFace, MySnot, MySpam, whatever...Move on, and ignore this 4 millionth insult to intelligence.

#83 — April 6, 2006 @ 11:09AM — Elizabeth [URL]

I like myspace, because I can keep in contact with aquaintences and friends that I don't have time to call regularly. It's an easy way to talk as a group about parties, times to meet, etc. etc. I admit that a lot of people are lame, but I don't add people I don't know, only people I actually know in real life-and I've found a lot of old friends that I had lost contact with, so I'm really thankful for that. I also added a couple bands I like so I can get their posts about upcoming shows. Also, I like to use it to post information about causes I'm involved in, so many friends can have some information about things I think are important. I would be happy if I never had another stranger look at my page-I don't give a crap if they do or not. But if they do or try to add me, I just delete the message, it's as simple as that. I don't understand why so many people hate myspace when it is only what you make of it. My friends and I have a good time swaping pictures and leaving each other funny comments...where's the harm in that? Or should I just be playing solitare at work...

#84 — April 6, 2006 @ 11:11AM — Elizabeth

oh yes and I also have a livejournal. But it's private. So I started my myspace to have something to share with friends that was a little easier for us html/jave/whatever "uneducated" (gasp! god forbid!)

#85 — April 8, 2006 @ 22:26PM — Avatar Kanix [URL]

It's like a bad MMORPG. You get friends (level up), join groups (clans) and you add pictures (purchase new gear). All the while you're trying to get more friends (levels) and make your profile look nicer than others.

#86 — April 9, 2006 @ 18:01PM — my space sucks

I agree.. myspace blows.. it's an easy way to let losers like my ex-boyfriend scout for new girls without leaving his home while a week earlier telling me, " I don't want anyone."

#87 — April 9, 2006 @ 21:01PM — Sean confer

i think the funny thing about myspace is that people are getting in all these internet relationships. Ha!! what a joke. for all they know
the people the are talking to can be some 5000 pound dude lying in his bed on a laptop chatting to some fat chick with a club foot. funny stuff funny stuff. I feel sorry for the dumb bastards who try an internet relationship.

#88 — April 10, 2006 @ 12:03PM — Tony Clifton

Bravo my friend. I like the one person who society is crumbling. So true. This generation, God where do I begin. First off being an idiot is mandatory. Any knowledge of history, politics, or anything that really matters you can forget about. It's all about looking good, going to the meat market dance club, dancing on the tables etc. And what is with the absolute obsession with being not just tan but mulato? Some of these people obviously tan AND use bronzer. These gals are certainly much trashier than they used to be. I guess we have Ms. Spears and Aguilera to thank for that. And yes, don't put 90 photos of yourself up in various states of undress engaging in lesbian acts etc. and then get offended when it's just not the hot boys you like that respond to you. What do you expect? God help us.

#89 — April 10, 2006 @ 16:07PM — Bubblehead

I deleted my account a few days ago after a year of using it nearly every day. It felt like getting a divorce I was so attatched to it! But after it felt good. I felt free. No more people peeking into my personal life or leaving glitter comments that took up too much space. No more chain emails from people I don't even know. No one looking at my income and marital status. I am free now. I think I will use the time to try to do some service projects for other people. Myspace made me selfish, so that I only cared about myself and the messages I got. NOW I AM FREE!

#90 — April 12, 2006 @ 18:57PM — leelee

'Myspace Sucks' merch (tees, doggie tees, mugs, etc.) can be found at www.myspacesucks.8m.com. There's also www.antimyspace.uk.com which is still under construction but there's a small (so far) forum going.

I completely agree that it's narcissistic and irresponsibly porny. Like an afterschool boys ang girls club with a unlocked door linking it to a strip club/peep show, only free. Totally not appropriate.

OK, I was entreated to enter MySpace - by a "friend". I have had many 'offers' of - well let's call them, "friendships/companionships",--- I can't count. Last guy sent me a pic with -uhm - not much left to imagine...he was awfully cute and hot, and...24; I'm a 'little' older than that... but he said he likes older women and me... so is it a pick-up space, a myspace, or a (in the case of the pics) a porno-space???

Myspace is gay, first of all ppl spend too much time on it and not getting enough excercize for their fat asses. second of all people should not post their life online with all the fuckin hackers. No wonder people are getting stalked and their like"oh no, im being stalked" NO SHIT U HAVE A FUCKING MYSPACE U STUPID WHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they should just delete the whole website because nobody gives a shit about u most of the people are friends so talk to them in school or sumthing dont wait to get home to fucking type shit to them u can tell them in person. 12 year old kids have myspace accounts as well as 50 year olds. Thats just wrong. FUCK MYSPACE AnD FUCK WHOEVER WASTES THEIR TIME ON IT!!!!!

#101 — April 26, 2006 @ 19:29PM — Travis [URL]

okay first i whoever wrote that fucking STORY about how you they hate my space is the biggest fucking loser of them all, why waste so much time on hating something, if you really hate it that much...dont fucking use it. grow up, get a life or go do something. Unfortunately for you its the most used website on the internet. Yeah i have an account at myspace and sure things bother me on it..but it fucking shit, not enough to blow up about, if something bothers me i either stop reading, or not look at that persons page anymore. Myspace has alot of neat tools that allows one to BLOCK people or if you want to strickly use it for old friend then you can set your profile to private. okay i'm done....quit fucking criticizing a god damn internet site...YOU DONT HAVE TO USE IT!

#103 — April 27, 2006 @ 01:40AM — Josie

OMFG. I gave up arguing about my space ages ago, simply because so many people use it and you can't win. My space just feeds the image obsessed and insanely insecure society we live in. And those people who find joy and security out of posing and creating FAKE attractiveness on a computer screen, are simply sad lost souls who seek unessicary amounts of attention as an alternative to living a real life.

#104 — April 27, 2006 @ 02:19AM — Sabrina

Well my 15 year old has myspace. I check on it daily, I have her log in and password, I even helped design her page for her. She has only friends she knows and some bands. She has even mentioned how happy she is I help her with it and gives us positive time together.
Allot of what you said is funny and true. What I find funny is those with 1000+ friends, omg get real right?

But fact is if you feel soooo strongly in all you wrote then why are you on myspace??? It is really annoying to see people complain about the things they have power to change. Don't like it then don't subscribe, simple as that.

One other thing about the bands.... myspace was originally designed and started for BANDS!!! So if you add a band as your friend.... you will get their mail... After all it was their space first. So again it is your choice.

#105 — May 2, 2006 @ 02:53AM — Nicholas [URL]

You are allowed your opinion but there is no freakin' difference between this crappy page and any MySpace page. You are just complaining about society. If you don't like it move into a cave on some deserted Island. Oh by the way personal attacks are freedom of speech but I won't lay one on you because you need to pack for that Island or some Buddist Monestry. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Last time I tried to give some buddhist philosophy I was booted from Classmates.com because the moron Republicans were offended and the moron Republicans who run Classmates.com agreed that Buddhism is bad for the present administrations image. I am not buddist by the way and I think Buddha was a jerk for abandoning his family to sit under a tree and contemplate.

#108 — May 5, 2006 @ 09:57AM — Nathan

Myspace is just another "reality" show on cyber space.

It purports to put people in touch with one another as friends, but in reality is just another sad pick-up service for those that can't be bothered to get off there arse and go out into the real world. They find comfort in the minimal amount of effort required to "make friends". If people want to meet the opposite sex as most single people do, join a group, club, sports team, etc etc.

The problem here is that it may be sending a unconscious message to the younger generation where in the future they may become socially inadequate when living in the real world.

We all find comfort in being wanted and the sad truth is that the majority of users on myspace actually believe they are wanted, when pinged with a friend request!

Collecting virtual reality friends is no match for actually meeting and socialising with real people.

Get a fucking life!

#109 — May 5, 2006 @ 10:20AM — Nathan

Further to the above, I suggest this to myspace lovers...collect a group of frineds for a month. Then post an email or bulletin telling them you are canceling your account. LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, so that your "friends" can contact you after the fact. I am willing to bet your inbox will be empty from the virtual friends you collected.

If you really want to collect pictures of girls or guys, I cordially suggest surfing the sex pic post sites and downloading the pictures onto your pc, as they are probably equal in realiity to your cyber myspace friends!

who cares? whether or not you have a myspace doesnt mean your "alternative" or "emo" (whatever the hell that means) or not...you are who you are, get over it. why should we try to classify ourselves into categories or patterns, its ridiculous!

p.s. (from liz's friend) just don't let myspace take over your life. I agree with Nathan (#108) that it is important to have real-life interactions. Myspace is okay, but at the same time is very impersonal and can cut you off from the reality of society if you let yourself get too caught up in it.

I really like your article. To me, myspace is just a meat market. It makes me feel completely disgusted sometimes, but why in the world do i keep on going there daily!? At least there are usually positives to negatives..I did meet my boyfriend of 8 months there and I have been able to be invited to different events from people that would normally not have the balls or desire to contact me. Like anything else, myspace is quick and easy. If you want to find some hot chick to get off to then I suppose it's there, if you want to talk to someone through a message who you would never have the balls to talk to, then that option is there too.

I agree that my space sucks! I have tried it... I also tried to delete my Account. It never deleted. MySpace needs to be deleted from the internet for too many reasons. First, no one really realizes how much information can be accessed about the memebers with out having to log-in. Too many "Children" are on the internet as it is. We don't need them being exposed to the crule world of MySpace. With that said MySpace is nothing but trouble. Most People get on the internet for illegal activites. Like downloading Music, movies, software, etc. for free! (using limewire/kazaa) Most middle aged people are only on there for sex, Or if that is not the case they do not know why they are on the internet or how to use it. I agree also with what some or the users above ahve said.. like how myspace impacts the obisity level. Fat asses need to limit them selves to either 1 hour a day or 3 days a week for 4 hours total a day, to the internet. Then everyone wounders why they are so fat. Look, just because you eat nothing but subway allday does not mean that you are not collecting fat cells by staring in to the computer or in to the tv. Damn just at least take a walk around the block. I rememeber there was a story on the news at work about a 16 year-old girl that left to the UK so she can look for some mid-aged guy she meet on myspace. Here parents hired a detective to find their missing daugter... He found out where she was heading by just pulling up the main page on my space. WOW now think what I can pull up on you. If your on myspace... get rid of it now! It will help you in the future.

#134 — June 20, 2006 @ 20:08PM — I support this article.

MySpace would have to be the most dumb thing ever made. There are boys with make-up on, creepy old guys, the grammar sucks, and skanky looking girls who look like they haven't washed their hair for about a week. I had one a long time ago, and I greatly regret it. I am going to laugh when it is deleted. "Whatever will we do without MySpace?" Haha, MySpace is being sued as well. I wish the worst for it. Tom sucks with the website layout and programming. What a faggot.

Myspace is a place for people who are unable to meet people in the real world. You will find two types of people on myspace....the desperate people who spend their time searching profiles trying to find hot males or females to add to their list of friends in hopes that they will one day meet, hang out and date OR people who go online to talk only to people that they know in real life who wont give you the time of day if you try to add them as a friend because they dont know you. Wanna keep in touch with friends? Buy a cell phone! Why advertise your public life on the internet for every low life and pervert to see? Doesnt it take more time out of your life to log on to the computer and talk to people and check mail and pictures when all you have to do is dial a phone number and meet up with a friend?

#137 — July 2, 2006 @ 17:25PM — Pete

Ok Myspace, addiction yes. I love it. Its fun, i like to see what people make of their own little pages. I have learned so much from intresting people on my space.. Yes INTRESTING. I know at lest half of what you see is self concious people copying corporate rock poetry for their screen names. That is just who they are.. trend followers!! Haqte the people not the game. My space is not for everyone but neither is yoga and i know lots of people who love yoga. So stop bitching about people bitching. If you hate myspace so much then dont use it!!! I feel i spend enough time on it to add my opinion to the pile. For anyone who reads this thanks.

I completely agree with pete... for those people who are lonely mindfucks who spend their lives on msn and myspace... (i will admit this beautiful trait now) we are happy with our pathetic lives and choose to live it the way we live it.. I actually find the act of blogging against myspace more pathetic than the myspace concept itself... Now for fucks sake get jobs get lives and get out there and do something constructive!

Brilliant man. Myspace is by far the most stupidest thing on the internet. Its not even a thing that will help you create your own website. Its a single website that lets people create their own page. Thats fine and all but people actually thinks its the best freaking invention. And many use it as a form of chat. "Hey commment me some time". WTF? And it is one of the few sites Ive heard of where the pedifiles lurk. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that myspace.com is overrated and plain retarded.

#143 — July 16, 2006 @ 08:21AM — amanda

I hate myspace as well but the only reason I log in is beacuse people send me emails but those are normally random guys or guys I know in real life that I'm trying to avoid. I only like it when my girlfriends drop a line but then I realize there are other mediums of communicating. I'm sick of the plastic looking women on there using fancy camera angles to look "hot." Sure some myspacers are attractive but most are downright trashy. I hate it, and hopefully I can keep myself from logging in. I was really addicted for awhile but for what reason??? Just to kill time and to procrastinate with my academics.

#144 — July 17, 2006 @ 18:50PM — tyler

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH DJ SHANE. myspace is the most stupidest thing ever. all the kids at my school who have myspaces are so stupid. they make friends with people they're already friends with and can talk to them on a phone or at school. they only have them just to be cool and show other people how stupid they are.

#145 — July 17, 2006 @ 18:57PM — Shan [URL]

I think Myspace.com is full of vapid, braindead wannabe posers. The site is pathetic and so uncool. It may have been hip at one time, but when the celebs took hold the posers followed. I'll take Craigslist obver this any day. However, if you've seen Craigslist recently, you would know that it is going to the dogs too!

#146 — July 17, 2006 @ 22:37PM — Brittany [URL]

you talk about people wasting time on the internet you spent probably at least 15 minutes typing this Shit and its all stupid myspace is a little gay bbut we all know that u are totally stating the obvious and why the hell do u care if guys tell girls how good they look? it helps their self-esteem and you can have conversations on myspace and learn stuff about people on it so... ur a dumbass

#149 — July 19, 2006 @ 11:58AM — Me

MySpace is blocked on my computers [Edited] I have a MySpace account, but I never use it. My reasons are simple:

-People make their stupid profiles painful to look at by going overboard with Flash, videos, ugly backgrounds and CSS, and just every single hideous design technique ever to be vomited onto the Internet. I can't read profiles even if I want to.

-I hate how nobody on MySpace seems to have the ability to type in clear, legible sentences with punctuation marks.

-Spam and sleaze...I can't tell you how much I appreciate getting "sexy" friend requests from bots masquerading as women. (What pisses me off even more is the possiblity that there are fuckwits out there who fall for this shit.)

-The entire site is an utterly transparent, planetary-scale marketing scam. The ads are unbelievably invasive (although you can block most of them using the hosts file technique I mentioned for mspaceads.com). In fact, I was reading an issue of "Wired" a couple weeks ago -- the cover story was about Rupert Murdoch, who owns MySpace, and how News Corp. is actively turning it into a colossal marketing machine. And also how the creators of MySpace (Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe) all too happily sold out their idea to News Corp. for multimillion dollar bonuses. Whores.

-And lastly, when I actively used my MySpace account, IT DIDN'T HELP ME GET LAID!! Grrrrrrr.

#150 — July 19, 2006 @ 18:52PM — Jessica

This is practically right. Whoever wrote this is right about it all. I have a myspace but basically I started it because my boyfriend had one and then I guess I got in a habit with checking it everyday. Then one day someone added me and I basically accept anyone that doesn't act/look like a petifile. But this guy was a 4th grade teacher adding a 14 year old like me? So from then I made my myspace private and yeah I guess myspace was pretty cool when it started but all my friends are addicted. Basically, I don't add anyone, everyone adds me and it's mainly those reject 29 year olds I have to deny. But I seem to have gotten to that point where it's like why is there a myspace? It's pretty pathetic now, and your right no one does know how to take decent pictures anymore.

#151 — July 20, 2006 @ 03:04AM — tyler

who here is an emo?

#152 — July 21, 2006 @ 03:12AM — Some Good Things

Hi everyone.

I agree with alot of what is being said here. Myspace has alot of crap on it. Creepy people, 12 year olds trying to be provocative, and lets not forget scary old men trying desperatly to get into those 12 year old's pants.

Yes, myspace has became a dis-tasteful scene in a lot of ways, but to be honest, I haven't seen too much of it. Yeah there are people that spam their ad's in people's comment boxes, but you can always disable the html code's in your comment box.

I have a myspace account that I am actively checking. I am a musician. I post my songs, and listen to other musician's songs. I post my show's on my space, and if people come to my show... thats cool.

I have connected with some of the most talented indy musicians, through myspace, I have ever heard. In fact I am involved in a colaberative album with some other musician's from across Canada and the United States. We have decided to do a benifit CD, and concert, against child exploitation. We actually have some people interested in doing a documentary about our efforts with this cause.

So not all of the myspace user's are bad, and personally, if you don't like it... don't go on the site. Nobody's forcing you.

But I will say this... If you see some little girl on there, who is obviously underage... don't comment on how "Hot" you think she is, cause that is just wrong! She's just a kid! It's called "Pedophilia"... and its disgusting. Don't contribute to our already growing epidemic!

Thanks.

Have a good day folks.

#153 — July 23, 2006 @ 00:35AM — Candice [URL]

..why do you care who is emo? I am but I don't see why that is at all important.

Anyways,
Not all of the younger people using myspace are the same. A lot of the "12 year olds" using myspace are just trying to contact their friends. Not all of them are as provocative as you make them seem. I'm only 13 but I have never done anything wrong on myspace.

Thank you.

#154 — July 23, 2006 @ 01:30AM — d ro [URL]

i dont like emo ppl
yo

#155 — July 23, 2006 @ 03:31AM — Some Good Things

Candice,

I didn't say all young girls on myspace are provocative, I said that about the one's that are. I was also talking to the guys 18yrs and up. I have had some young girls add me cause they like my music (as I am a musician) and when I look at their myspace site, and I see these guys who look like they are in their 30's, commenting on how "hot" that girl is, who looks like she couldn't be more then 14yrs old. I'm like "dude... that could be your child."

So I wasn't saying that all younger myspacer's are being provocative. I'm glad that you're just using myspace for finding and keeping up with friends.

Have fun, and be safe.

This is hilarious! I don't know anything about MySpace, but my college-aged cousins were trying to convince me that I'm not too old and should "hang out" there (I'm 36). After reading your post, I think I'll pass.

#157 — July 24, 2006 @ 00:26AM — Molly

I have a myspace acount, and I agree with you all the way. I didn't want random people trying send me emails, so i placed my page on private. I talk to so many friends who complain that guys bug them and stalk them over the internet. I basically tell them it is their problem for not placing their account for friends only. Not only that, but do you notice how myspace.com never works??? In fact, I just typed in the URL address and it doesnt work.. big surprise right? Most likely by tomorrow morning i will not have a myspace anymore. The only reason why i set one up was to find old highschool friends. I've never been desparate enough to find a date on smoething as stupid as myspace. I'm engaged so that should really let everyone out there know that they do not need a computer to find a date.. sometimes the real world is A LOT better!

#158 — July 24, 2006 @ 05:34AM — ty

haha, i completely respect what you say, but when i read the part "You shouldn't care what others think about your appearance, and if you have enough self confidence to post your profile on a site used by over five million people you have enough self confidence to post a photo of yourself", i thought--well, why are you posting all this crap if you shouldn't care about how you look? i mean, you can't change how people are, so if you're so hell-bent on not "caring", then why do you care so much about reasoning people into hating myspace? overall, i hate myspace just as much, i just don't agree with some of your reasons.

#159 — July 24, 2006 @ 05:36AM — ty

oh, and also, haha, i mean, why are you so upset about what other guys say to girls? i mean, is it so angering that no one comments on your appearance that you have to continually degrade what other low-self-esteemed guys say about other "hot" girls? c'mon, if you were so bent on sharing your opinion, at least back it up with something constructive other than "shut the fuck up". if you truly had the gall and the "balls" to really put your point across, you'd post a picture of yourself on this blog and not fear that people might make a comment about you and your "appearance"

#162 — July 25, 2006 @ 01:03AM — Gigs

The insecurity of women on MySpace baffles me. They must realize they're ugly because no one approaches them in public. But rather the friends they're with. Boo-hoo they have an emotional break down that can only be fixed by posting semi nude pictures on MySpace. As if compliments from 29 year old bachelors who can't get dates make it all better. Way to go SeXiTEaSe, you've lost all dignity. They all post how they can never find this elusive "nice guy." They put "I want to meet Mr. Right, who knows it could be you!! ;-)" every guy who doesn't have the confidence to talk to real women falls for it hook, line, and sinker. Whats this!?! A contradiction!?! Mr. Right should also take note that she doesn't want to be treated like a piece of ass. But this is only after she gets Mr. Lefts' dick out of her mouth, and stops uploading pictures of her in a thong.

Get real bitches. You're shallow as a puddle on the inside. The world doesn't care how you can't find true love on the internet, at your shitty dorm, or how much bigger your boobs are pressed together. Insider secret, *boobs are boobs.* Maybe if you stopped getting your tan from a bottle, wearing fake nails, didn't cake on makeup and left the body glitter for girls who play princess, you would meet a guy with the dignity of holding eye contact with you. But that doesn't matter when you have 300 "friends" now does it? Yeah how many do you actually know... 5 maybe? 4 are your close girlfriends, and 1 is the "nice guy" you've known since preschool. 2 of the 4 girls probably talk shit behind your back. It's all gravy though.

Next up you have the macho, "I'm 95% Irish but pretend I'm 100% Italian metrosexuals." They also get their tan from a bottle, use half a bottle of hair gel on a nightly basis, wear lip gloss, and frequently get manicures and pedicures, not to mention the blown out hair like they're a Gotti. Hey Romeo, you're a fucking tool. Now these guys are worse than the girls. They have about 500 friends. About 491 of them are all "bikini babes" who live thousands of miles away. Yeah I'm sure they're just waiting to throw their panties at you. In reality, they're probably sad lonely men behind a fake womans profile. But they don't see that do they? Maybe that 1 "Hey ma uz hott!111" comment is all it takes for her to get on a plane, fly across the country and fuck you silly. Then to show just how cool they're aside from the bikini babes, they must have 1 or 2 pictures uploaded of themselves either wasted, or kneeling down next to their rims from Sears. Not to mention they're also throwing up gang signs like they've got arthritis. Way to go champ, you loose at life dipshit.

Another thing has me wondering... People spend hundreds on a cell phone, they've got AIM/MSN/Yahoo/ICQ, and they use MySpace comments as a substitute. Nobody cares how drunk you got, who gave you the clap, how much you like someone, or the rest of your mundane personal life. Keep this shit private. The girl from Alabama isn't going to cyber with you because you're kissing her ass with "3 ya" in a message. Nor is the guy from Seattle who plays a guitar in his fucking garage going to come in on a white horse and ride with you off into the sunset so you can live like a princess (unless you have the body glitter!). Your communication skills and confidence must suck if you prefer meeting screen names vs oh I dont know... real people?

So girls keep puckering up for the webcam, and guys keep posing without your shirt on, and keep posing like you're Italian. You're bound to find some asshole that meets your "ultra low, I'll settle for anything" standards. Stop reading my rant, "You have new comments!"

#163 — July 25, 2006 @ 19:22PM — m/>

ALL OF YOU STFU

#164 — July 28, 2006 @ 13:11PM — CJK

Things that suck about MySpace:

- Full of fucking music elitist and music snobs. It's a contest of who can write the longest list of obscure bands, stick plugins to play music when you view their profile, etc.

- CSS gone haywire. These skins, graphics, etc. that people have on their profiles fucking blow. The overwhelming majority are gaudy enough to give anyone a seizure who looks at them too long.

- Comments are for comments. Not animated images, or conversation. They're comments. Not IM, not email.

- Full of fucking liars. Guys: that hot 25 year old chick sending you messages is probably a gay 40 year old man. Girls: that sexy teen male sending you messages is probably a 50 year old pedophile.

- It's suppose to connect friends and be a friend network. So why bands, companies, TV shows, etc. have accounts is beyond me. They're just more requests to deny.

- It's become a contest of who can have the highest number of friends. Many people are in the thousands and many many more in the hundreds. Those people are NOT your friends. Look up the fucking definition of friend. Just because they went to school with you, worked with you, or they're an acquaintance or a friend of a friend doesn't make them your friend. Picture this: Your house burns down one night. You need to borrow some money and find a place to crash for the night. How many people on your list would actually say Yes if you called, and not out of guilt or sympathy, but out of friendship. Find another way to pump your self esteem besides adding everyone in the world to your friends list.

Most people at my school have myspace. I dont.

I dont because i find it pathetic.

Obviously there is something wrong with me as i am completly unable to post pictures of myself posing for a camera... or looking cute with my hair done and lots of makeup on.

Whats wrong with people today? What happend to being modest? Why does there seem to be a need for people to show other people how amazingly hot they are? because that is really what myspace is..... and its a JOKE.

I hate to tell all of you this but you can't be friends with everyone you know forever. Thats how it always has been, you move on with your life and you make new friends. Eventually (a few years from now in a lot of cases) you'll have a real life that involves work and a family and you won't have time for all of this "staying in touch" with friends that either aren't really friends or you'll never see again.

I can just imagine ten years from now when newer generations start having kids of their own but can't spend any time with them because they have to drop Rocco from third grade a line on my space.

The tradition of friends is that friends are the people you spend time with most. They're the people you can call up and invite over to your house to do stuff with...they're not a picture/biography on a website, I mean come on.

#170 — August 1, 2006 @ 08:51AM — Jack Sargent

I hate myspace and all it stands for. I'm 18 and will never get it. In my view, its used only by stupid little emo cunts who have nothing better to to with their time. They think they dress and act differently, but really they're depressingly un-original human beings. This whole emo/scene thing pisses me off big time. All myspace is good for is furiously masturbating to pictures of lush scene bitches and there woefully inscecure friends. Society is fucked.

#175 — August 4, 2006 @ 05:36AM — dont lie

Ok, so i entered in "myspace addictions" in the google search engine, hoping to find a little info about myspace. I have to admit, its very interesting to read all of these different opinions,(and yes i read all of them.) So this is what my life has come to, sitting at the computer at 2:08am, and i just realized before i found myself at this site i was infact, on myspace. sad. i know. but it IS an addiction. cant fight the addiction unless you stop it at the source. which is what i think i am going to do, i will delete my myspace. it needs to be done, i need to be set free.
so here are my opinions:
I do indeed have a myspace. i have come to the conclusion about 90% of the people that posted comments on this also say. myspace is fucking trash. it really is, it has been taken over by hackers, and sick freaks that have nothing better to do with their time then to jack off to some girl in junior high with her boobs popping out of her hooters shirt. its true that millions of kids have indeed become "whored," as you put it. but what can we REALLY do. it would solve everything to just delete myspace altogether but how the hell is that going to happen. there are more whores and pervs that want to keep it than people like me that realize the true facts of myspace.
you can probably tell be the fact that i dont capitalize mostly any of my sentenses that i have fallen into the myspace fad. but havent we all. its fun at first, but then you get carried away and find yourself logging on first thing when you wake up in the morning, and realize your messaging someone you barely know..at your friends house. i mean isnt the purpose of going to a friends house to hang out with them? not to go on myspace, which is what i see lots of people doing. and whatever happend to grammer? i mean really, is it so hard to type out the words oh my god instead of OMG. or instead of lmfao just say ha. how fucking hard is that. yeah yeah we all know how gay scene slash emo kids are, but they wont listen, they wont grow up and wont become original. theyre just going to keep taking theyre emo pictures and cutting theyre hair dykish and following everyone else. fuck, i know its gay but what can we do? just deal with it.
Myspace fucked up my computer also. By visiting sites my computer had endless amounts of viruses and problems with it, soley from myspace, which i admit is my fault for HAVING a myspace but if so many fucking assholes wouldnt have put all that shit on myspace and stalked little girls then myspace would be better off, although its impossible to prevent.
And how about all those damn threats people put in bulletins. i mean seriously. is that not THE most retarded thing since myspace? (ha, i should start saying that now)"fuck you jenna! brit is MY best friend! we smoke pot together and have lesbian sex so you cant have her!!! back off or ill come to your house and cut your head off you fucking whore go such a.." oh lord, what has our world come to. seroiusly, if you want to go kick someones ass go do it, and stop complaining about it on freaking myspace. its annoying.

and after reading all of the comments...
comment number 35: wow. your a fag. look at your damn comment.. your "ghey". which pretty much screams "IM A FUCKING MYSPACE WHORE AND I COULDNT SAY ANYTHING MEANINGFULL SO I HAD TO POST 'I LOVE MYSPACE IT ROCKS!'." then why the fuck are you on a site talking shit on myspace, and showing the TRUE FACTS about how myspace has ruined society. psh. arent you wasting your time go get on your space and post some bulletins about how you love yourself. fucker. :)
Billy Wagner comment 121: I hope your fucking kidding because that post was HILARIOUS. thats a tipical myspace blog for you. christ.
Oh, and "biG Jay" comment number 13:
YOUR FUCKING RETARDED. GET A FUCKING LIFE? HOW ABOUT THAT. shit.

Well, im sure this post is probably longer than the article itself so, ill end it with that.
Thank You.

To those who think that shortening your words to letter and numbers, you know what I said.

To the rest, good day.

Myspace needs to be shut down and, not everybody, but a majority of the people on myspace are a bunch of pathetic, subhuman degenerates who need to be thrown into a gulag so they can be converted into upstanding, civilized, and inteligent people. I have never seen so much disgusting bourgeois decadence!

I couldn't agree more with this! MySpace is just a popularity contest to see who has the most friends! MySpace needs to be SHUT DOWN!!

Good Job with this post.

Myspace is on the way out. Too many highschool age children on the site. It is not considered to be "cool" anymore.
Myspace is going down just like 50 cent's "In the Club" song that was played out from the first day it aired. I really hope that face/face communication becomes popular again. But, that may never happen. People enjoy hiding behind a profile that they perceive to be "unique". People are unique - those hideous profiles aren't.
