REVIEW

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

So, I went to the theater with one of my disturbingly-numerous ex-girlfriends this afternoon. And we (she) decided to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a movie about a married couple who happen to both be assassins.

It stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, two of the most attractive human beings on the planet. (Though, after seeing him on the Big Screen for the first time, I can honestly say that Brad Pitt has some seriously enormous nostrils...)

Anyway, the plot is largely unimportant, as well as completely ludicrous. But, in a nutshell: Two really good looking people, who are both cold-blooded killers, end up marrying each other. Neither one knows about the other's real profession. Five (or six) years after exchanging vows, their marriage is in tatters, until they are both told to kill the other one. Then, bizarrely, their relationship is healed.

Outside of this weak premise, there are a lot of scenes of mostly-anonymous people getting killed, and there are several tremendous explosions, and there is no dearth of thoroughly unrealistic gunplay. Oh, and some snappy one-liners are spoken.

And that's about it.

It's not an entirely bad "date" movie, and it's not a complete waste of two hours. But it's hardly a movie you'll have an urge to watch a second time. And it's certainly not something worthy of being added to your DVD collection (when the DVD inevitably comes out).

RJ's rating: 2.5 stars out of 5.
