This is a pretty good collection, for a genre that I don't listen to much from. Punk is the order of the day for this soundtrack for a film directed by a founding member of The Vandals, bass player Joe Escalante.

Originally the film was set to feature The Atari's, but due to scheduling and a sudden rise in their popularity, they were unable to participate. And due to this, they do not appear on the soundtrack, instead one third of the disc is made up of tracks from the band which did play a role, No Use For A Name.

The first song on the album, Name's "No Way to Live," is probably my favorite, but it is also the most overused song in the movie, I must have heard portions of it six or seven times throughout. The other four tracks from them are also good, mixing in a couple of slower paced songs with the rockers.

There are 10 more tracks rounding out the album. They include tracks from Piebald, Yellowcard, Audio Karate, and The Vandals. Most of the songs have a crisper sound than what I was expecting, I expected a much rougher, less produced edge, so I was pleasantly surprised with what I heard. I don't think that you will be able to count me among the fans, but I think this disc will find regular play, or at least portions of it.

This disc is a good one to turn up in the car while rolling with the windows down, or it sounds better at loud volumes. What else can I say? It is far from groundbreaking, and does not really forge any new ground, but what it does do is succeed as a soundtrack and a fun album on its own.

Bottomline. If you are a fan of any of these bands, you will probably want to get a hold of this. In some ways it is better than the film which it accompanies. A fun disc best played in a car at loud volumes.
