Here are some of the notable bugs from the past week in the BugBlog:

AOL has released Netscape 8.0, which is a combination of both the Mozilla Firefox and the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. They almost immediately then released the 8.01 update to incorporate the security fixes in the Mozilla Firefox 1.04 release. (Most of the security bulletins that you find at the Netscape Security Center at http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/security/alerts.jsp are actually links to Mozilla security bulletins.) Some of the security in the Netscape browser is based on a Trust Rating System, explained at http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/security/default.jsp. (Can't say that the security zone model has worked well for MSIE.)

Microsoft says that if you tell Windows Media Player 10 to thin a multiple-bit-rate video stream by selecting a lower bit rate, things might go too far. If Windows Media Player has to resize the video, it may incorrectly give a negative size to the video. This could invert the video and also color it green. Microsoft has a hotfix for this, which will also be in a future service pack or upgrade. You can also download this fix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898549 or from the Microsoft Download Center.

That didn't take long — Apple has released the first update for Mac OS X 10.4. The new version 10.4.1 has a number of bug fixes. Without the update, Safari might crash if you Control-click or right click some PDF files or graphics. Printing PDFs from Safari should now work better, too. Previously, you may only get a gray bar on your hard copy.

Feel a disturbance in the Force? LucasArts has an update for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The 1.0b update fixes a crash that sometimes happens in the dialogue when entering the Harbringer. It also fixes a crash that may happen when going between B-4D4 and the main character after the quest on Telos. You can get this fix at http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/kotor2.htm.

Nice report. I'd also cite the Sober worm as a huge risk - a right-wing risk, interestingly.:)
