Mindhunters

Mindhunters is not "Citizen Kane." Mindhunters was never meant to be "Citizen Kane." Mindhunters was also never meant to be "The Silence of the Lambs" or "Seven."
A quick read of the reviews at RottenTomatoes.com will show you exactly what the critics thought of this movie.
But critics don't always help you determine the best usage of your movie-going dollars. In fact they will sometimes put you in a theater for some mind-numbing piece of garbage, or something that is so completely over-rated that you will want to scream. (Mystic River anyone?)
Mindhunters is a psychological action thriller starring Val Kilmer, Christian Slater, LL Cool J and a bunch of people that we have never heard of before. It is a crazy story about 9 FBI agents on an island to learn about profiling serial killers, and as it turns out, one of them is a serial killer who must be weeded out. Oh, and a couple people will certainly die until we figure out who the serial killer is. This movie is an "And then there were none" style movie with more gore than the Scream flicks, and less of the amazing surprises as the original.
A couple observations.
LL Cool J isn't bad in this movie until he starts delivering silly action hero lines that are supposed to break up the darkness of the flick. "I guess we know what his weakness is. Bullets."
What happened to Val Kilmer and Christian Slater? First of all Kilmer is just doing caricatures instead of characters now and Christian Slater seems like he doesn't even want to be there.
Kathryn Morris is really good. Hopefully this movie serves as a boost to her career and we will see her much more frequently.
So, if you are looking for something amazing that you can tell your friends about, stay home. But if you are looking for some mindless action fun, with some slight annoyances (or Star Wars is sold out this weekend) go ahead and check this one out.

Yes, home entertainment is great. I understand that some people prefer the theater because of the atmosphere, and the popcorn, and getting out of the house, etc, but I am all for the Netflix side of things.
actually I prefer the theater atmosphere. I tend to doze off in the theater only if the film is really boring. At home, I do so regardless.
But, as long as I'm in the suburbs, I too have to enjoy TCM and Netflix as substitutes.
I think that the prices of movies have just gotten out of sorts when you consider how little it costs to hang out and wait for DVD's to come out.

Or stay home and watch Citizen Kane...
isn't home entertainment great?
