DVD Pick of the Week. 5/17

This week's pick was kind of hard to make, there are a lot of worthy titles coming out this week. But, when it comes right down to it there was only one title worthy this week, Team America: World Police - Unrated and Uncensored. For those of you who have not seen it, and judging by the film's grosses that's a lot of you, this is one hilarious movie.

It is from the manic masterminds behind South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They have decided to target the war in the Middle East. And not just any one side, they go after anyone and everyone they can get in their sights on. They have wisely chosen not to use live people, instead they use puppets, Thunderbirds style.

Just remember, everything is funnier with puppets!

Other titles to look for:

  • Batman: Return to the Batcave. The TV movie bringing Adam West and Burt Ward back to their campy roots.
  • Battlefield Baseball. I had completely forgotten about this. I've been wanting to see this film about a baseball team and a unique way of playing.
  • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Vol. 6. The next set of episodes from this very entertaining series.
  • The Grudge: Unrated Director's Cut. I was one of the few who enjoyed this film, and I am looking forward to seeing what they do to it.
  • Kinsey. Interesting biopic about a rather quirky individual.
  • The Mask: New Line Platinum Series. A new release of the Jim Carrey vehicle featuring the screen debut of Cameron Diaz.
  • Scrubs: The Complete First Season. One of the best sitcoms on television, hands down.
  • The Sea Inside. Well acted if somewhat empty film.
  • Seinfeld: The Complete Fourth Season. The classic series next season, this is a must have.
  • Shaolin vs. Evil Dead. Starring Gordon Liu, how can you go wrong with a title like that?
  • The Steve McQueen Collection. Includes The Great Escape, Thomas Crown Affair, and two more.
  • Tarnation. A unique if vaguely unbelievable documentary making a great use of mixed media.
  • White Noise. Awful film, I feel bad for Michael Keaton.

Until Next week!

Yeah, I thought Team America was tremendous fun, though it didn't stay with me after as the South Park movie did in its intelligence and subversive qualities. Still, the music in both films is fantastic and worth the price of admission alone.... and I am SO not a musical person.

On a different topic: a few friends of mine in Hollywood convinced Adam West to be in a low budget film they produced. It was very weird/cool to see friends of mine in a film with Batman.
