Return
(MTM)

Said to be one of Norway's best selling rock bands; Return marks the return of a band that was on hiatus for quite a few years. It is debatable whether or not their return is actually worthwhile or whether the band will have legs elsewhere in the world. This is Aha-like pop-rock with a bit of a punky edge at times. Lead singer Tore Larsen certainly does not really have the pipes to compete with the big hitters of this genre internationally. 'Holy Water' is a good example of the limits of his voice even on a simple ballad. Its not really horrid, but bands like Haren Scarem do this sort of thing far better. This is 80's bouncy pop rock at its simplest but music that does not really hold up to multiple plays. Listening to this CD is an interesting insight into what constitutes pop-rock in Norway. Not essential but not all together rubbish either.

Rating: 2/5

Marty's band, Growing Old Disgracefully, can be found on: CD Baby His Cthulhu tales can be found at Temple of Dagon.
