Silver Dollar Question: Rare Coin Investments Get Political

So I give up. The Democrats win. Let's give them the majority. See, the Democrats scream corruption because they're not in power. When the Blade wrote that the state of Ohio would begin to gradually wean out their investment dollars, Democratic state Sen. Tom Dann from Youngstown, Ohio told the Blade, "This is so revealing of the culture of corruption of the Republican party in Columbus and the Republican party in the state of Ohio that I wouldn't put anything past them."

OK, Senator Dann. You and your party are in charge.

So is John Kerry and John Edwards. Barbara Boxer can be secretary of state, Wesley Clark can be attorney general, Hillary Clinton can be secretary of defense, Teresa-Heinz Kerry can be governor of Florida. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) can have DeLay's position. And make any other changes you want.

See if you don't go corrupt.

See if you don't pass partisan agenda. See if you don't get your way with the government. See if you don't appoint judges and ambassadors without heat from the Republicans. And see if the Republicans, in turn, get so caught up in a messy election that they don't accidentally nominate someone cold and unlikable like Bill Frist.

It's not that Republicans are by nature corrupt. They're the ones in power. If the Democrats were in power, the country would be different, maybe even in better shape, but they would still walk over anyone who opposed them and do whatever they want. That's politics. You fight for seats, and when you get them, you enjoy the November spoils.

It's shaping up to be a Democratic resurrection in 2008. Maybe you'll get your way. But maybe you know you've learned not to invest in coins. 'Cause the Blade will be watching you.

Matthew T. Sussman is by no means a political analyst, but he is from Toledo and thinks it's cool that the Blade totally owned the Times and the Post in a Pulitzer category. He has a buffalo nickel somewhere, he thinks. He is also currently between blogs.
