Live review: Mitch wows the Sunday night crowd

Mitch Benn & the Distractions

Steve Le Strange opened for Mitch & the crew proving that it is possible take a concept way too far. The end of his peformance was more tedious than funny. Mitch & his distracting ladies (Tash "she of the sexy drummer" & Kirsty) on the other hand produced another cracking performance with tracks from both allbums Radio Face and Too Late to Cancel; both of which can now be bought on-line. So rabid are his fans that Mitch told me he plans to work on a new album this summer. It was patently obvious it was "his" crowd as most of the songs were sung word for word by the audience; including, of course, the rather large Growing Old Disgracefully mob that was in attendence. Highlights of the night were his patiche of Boy Bands ('Boy Band') (complete with off-key singing) and the audience fave 'Macbeth (My Name is)'. (These tracks can now be found on iTunes UK.) Course our lot rather liked his piss-take on Metal sets: 'Never mind the Song'. The band were tight as hell and totally on. It was certainly the best performance I have seen from Mitch & Co, the best of a pretty damn impressive set of gigs. If you can't get to see the band live; get the CD or the tracks from iTunes. You know you want to!
