Anthony has a PURE/NATURAL voice and respects CLAY AIKEN's SUCCESS as an ARTIST. He never puts down CLAY AIKEN.
He just wants to live the AMERICAN DREAM.For all of us who are LOYAL to CLAY as our one and only idol some of us want to see other AI HOPEFULS succeed like CLAY. Our idol is on TOP of his career because of his hardwork
and the love and support of his loving and caring fans. Among the contestants,it's ANTHONY whom I supported because of his "MIRACLE VOICE". I fet sad of him being bashed, because some people especially from the media thought that he was trying to imitate CLAY. They have different vocal ranges but they both sing with love and passion. Both with CLASSY and DIGNIFIED PERSONALITIES. A quote from RALPH WALDO EMERSON's POEM " TALENTS DIFFER, ALL IS WELL AN WISELY PUT".... Thanks EVE, NJ

All this discussion for a guy who tried out for the show because his mother dared him to... No real sacrifice or inspiration there...

but... on the matter of the drug possession "timeline" for the drug user...

This is just me thinking...

How old is Bo? Just about 30...

So 2 years ago when he was caught holding the marijuana he was 28ish... (youthful indiscretion? I say no, he knew EXACTLY what he was doing, he just made the mistake of getting caught? or he was too drunk to care? How nice.) If it wasn't his, why was he holding it for someone else? Was he also holding their drug paraphernalia?

and 4 years ago with the coke? Is there a difference in how much you hold and how stupid it is to hold it if you don't use? If you are holding it, there is a presumption of use. I'm okay with the felony no matter how much you have in your pocket. It's still illegal, right? What was he gonna use it for? to make spackle?

I'm really not arguing his drug habits (or lack thereof), merely his lack of active brain cells...

If I were looking to sign a guy to my record label, I would be concerned about how bright my star was, or maybe that will work to AI's benefit, they can take uch more advantage of a "star" with less cranial activity, right?

yes, the Simon & Garfunkel omission was "sacrilege". "Forgetting" to mention Clay Aiken's BOTW was just petty.

BOTW:
Ryan Not mentioning Simon & Garfunkel was sacrilege and then not to mention that Aiken had a #1 hit with the song was just crazy. Aiken blew the roof off of AI when he sang the song!

Couple comments on what some people have posted:

Not sure everyone's mind is made up yet. I know some Anthony fans that will vote for him IF and WHEN he has a good performance but were saying, a few weeks back when he wasn't singing well, that he should go home. And I see evidence that Vonz is cutting into Carrie's fan base too.

Re Bo's 'drug addiction.' There's no evidence he was an addict. In fact, his band mates say he was not.
He was arrested in 2001 when ca. 1/4 gram of cocaine was found in his jacket pocket (charges dismissed "without prejudice" when the officer didn't show at trial). Two years later he was arrested on misdemeanor charges of public intoxication (beer-induced?), marijuana posession, and drug-paraphernalia posession. He pled guilty to the "intoxication" and "paraphernalia" misdemeanors, paid a fine and went through a "diversion" program, after which his record was cleared of all charges. The point is:
a. lots of people have used drugs -- legal and otherwise -- without being habitual users or addicts.
b. Bo's arrests were 4 and 2 years ago
c. the "felony" label on the cocaine charge is misleading -- posession of even a tiny amount of cocaine is a felony in Alabama
d. Bo has no "record" for any felony or for even misdemeanor drug posession

Re: Bridge Over Troubled Water

Not only did Simon & Garfunkel have the original hit -- which was #1 on the main Billboard charts, not #umpteen on the AC charts -- but Paul Simon WROTE the song.

And, yes, how would AI slap Clay Aiken in the face for having the audacity to first upstage the "winner" of AI2 in virtually all measures of stardom and then break away from most of the tentacles of the AI contract? Hmmm... Let's have the AI4 finalists "cover" the same song Clay blew the roof off the joint with in the AI2 finale but not even mention Clay. Yeah, that's it! That's the ticket!

PS - At this stage of the competition it doesn't actually matter how well the contestants sing on the Tuesday shows. The fans all have their favourites sorted out by now, and it is only a thing of who gets out the vote best as to who gets on to next week.

In my own humble opinion of course.

As usual, Down Under AI viewing is Friday, and I watch the tape Saturday, so forgive me for being a couple days behind.

My initial thought with Scott going was FINALLY. As I stated last week, the time for ordinary guy made good ran out a few weeks ago, and indeed, when I saw Anthony and Scott in the bottom two this week, I thought FINALLY - I personally think they should have been the bottom two for the last three weeks running. There's just something not, quite, right about Anthony.

And did anyone else see Scott do the thanking Allah or whoever he looks up to when he was told to go to the couch before the switcheroo?

I could see Carrie OR Bo being in the bottom two, but not both, so when they were both standing up, as well as the fact that Ryan hadn't specifically said 'you're safe' - they try to be tricky, but after four series the word games are too easy to figure out - I knew the couch two were the bottom.

Prediction the next two weeks, Anthony then Vonzell to go. Final is a toss up, rock votes versus country votes, with the floating pop and rest of the musical spectrum votes to decide...

Here was my favorite moment...Ryan tells Scott to sit on the couch, and he thinks this is a good thing, starts his usual victory Tourette's and goes to sit next to Anthony. He is turned away from the camera so it's not clear what he says, but it HAS to be something that indicates he thinks he's safe, because when you read Anthony's lips he is clearly telling Scott it aint over.

Give Trach Boy credit, he aint dumb. He knows he is most likely on the bottom, and anyone sitting next to him is not in a good location. He also knows the show has to throw in one little surprise, and that telling the bottom two to "relax" is their twist for that week.

Scott couldn't see it though, he really WAS picking out his song for next week. Oops!

AI4 rendition of BOTW, sounded like there was 5 hungry stray cats wailing
in an alley way. How dare they butcher such a classic song.
I have not voted for anyone, vocally, the girls are the strongest. Bo, in my opinion does not portray the AI image,
the long hair makes him look dirty and his past drug addition worries me. If he wins, the stress of the business might tempt him to try drugs again. I know someone who was on drugs and that person said, you leave the drugs but the drug urge never leaves you.

yes, I'm sure a lot of people did what you did---they voted not to help someone (Anthony) win, but to make sure that Scott finally got the boot.

What I call tactical voting. you did it, dude!

yep, AI2 was a real downer and I'm thinking now we're headed for another squeaker, but it won't matter in the same way that AI2 did.

Awesome article...

My two hours spent voting and redialing on Tuesday night weren't a total waste!!!

I haven't actually voted at all this season. I had refused to up until this week. I mean, after the anomaly that was AI2... but I digress.

I just couldn't accept that Scott "The Body" (Who the hell gave him that squicked-out nickname?) had managed to squeeze through to this week. We all know he should have been gone long ago. After Tuesday's show, I decided that it was most likely down to Anthony and Scott. So I spent two hours trying to boost Anthony's numbers -- hoping and praying that it wasn't in vain. Two hours later I had managed to get through over 500 times (on one line, manually hitting flash and redial)-- I lost track once my eyes started to go fuzzy and I went into 'auto' mode where any sound at all made me hit a button.

Maybe there were enough people out there who did the same thing? Not vote.for.the.worst, but vote. for. the. second. worst. to. make. sure. the. worst. actually. ends. up. off. the. show. this. week.

Eric- don't you think fish copulating in water makes it tastier?

Don't you think the producers of American Idol like all the "conspiracy theories" going on this year? People might be complaining and vowing to not watch anymore....but people who haven't tuned in before are hearing more about it and thus more likely to tune in to see what it is all about.

The hoopla over Married...With Children is what made it Fox's first hit show. Sure people were outraged, but it got others watching it. Meaning more advertising dollars. Meaning they are getting exactly what they want. Even if they didn't plan it. And what producer in their right mind would try to stop that?

Great write up, as always, Mr. Sticker!
I am a little surprised that no one has mentioned the crazy reaction by Scott when Ryan told him to move to the couch. Did you see his relief and point upward? DUH! Like anyone in the world thought he and Anthony were sitting on the couch because they were both safe!!!?? come on! The funniest part of the night was when Scott was making his way to the couch and Anthony shook his head at him. It appeared like he was trying to explain to him, "dude, we're not safe! get real!" I wish Anthony had still been miked! That would have been worth hearing! :)
Luckily I could rewind it and watch that part over and over again! It was good stuff!
There may be another explaination of why Ryan Seagrest mentioned Michael W Smith's version of BOTW instead of Simon and Garfunkel. Tuesday night's theme included today's top40. Isn't BOTW a "hit" for MWS right now on the top 40?? I think thats why Ryan announced it that way. I totally agree that its Simon & Garfunkel's song though and Ryan could have at least mentioned that it was originally their hit song. Being that Ryan hosts the top 40 every week, thats probably all he thinks about, when it comes to most music. Don't you think?
I think its so funny about the Baby V and Bo "friendship" kisses and snuggles! I hadn't noticed that! I will definitely go back and watch that part again. Bo does have a girlfriend but did you see her? I dont think she's ultimate-pop-star-girlfriend material. I would definitely be packing my bags to move out if I were her.
Well the scandal of Scott is gone so now the emphasis can be on "who will win", which is how it should be. I personally dont care about the Paula stuff. I just want the show to be able to continue and stay the great program that it is.
Peace out!
