Dumpster Bust Radio: Podcast #6

Lots going on as always on this week's show. New Bat Time... Pretty Much the Same Bat Channel for starters with a Tuesday release date. It looks like this will make sense on a number of levels, least of all for my Sanity's Sake.

A number of interviews are also coming down the pike - see below and listen in to get up on that Scoop. I am also trying to get the show down more to a Streamlined length. Didn't quite make it this week, so all I can say is the Content Made Me Do It.

DB Radio #6 Presents

Introduction
Find out why I'm sipping green tea out of a glass in the bowels of my apartment's garage at one in the morn.

Up in Your Ear: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy & to be Young in the West
Find out how Swingers and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy helped to draw me to the West. Also, I talk about a recent BBVD show, which I may admit to you all now was fairly if not completely Rad.

Featured Song #1
"It's Too Late," by The Reds

Interview: Lance Anderson of Verge of the Fringe
Part I of an interview with the storyteller-podcaster extraordinaire, which took place outside a Peet's Coffee in Pasadena on the most beauteous of days.

Featured Song #2
"Angry," by drunkdude69

It's actually a day later than per usual, Duke. Look for a Tuesday pub date from now on... probably...

Duke... I asked you keep the personal stuff off-line!

(Ah... the hilarity of the innuendo... damn, I miss Three's Company...)

listenin now, man. this is wonderful. i prefer it to #5, which is no slight on #5, but you jsut sound more relaxed or somethin. that Swingers story was great, and i'm listenin to the interview at the minute. Brilliant interview. I don't even know this sonn a bitch, and yet this interview is compelling. and the coffee-house vibe really adds to it.

this may be my fave DB radio yet!

and i agree, that first featured song was swell as all hell.

Yeah, I feel as though #6 brought a breakthrough of sorts. Maybe not something that would be overly obvious to the listener, but the pain of bringing #5 to life made me rethink things quite a bit.

And yeah, I felt more relaxed, which likely had to do with the looser format and with the fact that I did the show at one in the morning. I'm a night person, so doing the show late had a good feel to it, and I'm usually at my best when there's a cup of coffee or tea in my hand.

I like brining the interviews to air a lot as I feel as though it adds a lot to the show. I also feel as though I'm a better conversationalist than a broadcaster, so it saves me from having to generate things to say off-the-cuff and the like. I defer to the great The Duke for such things.

Eric,

The less you talk about TV the more I'm interested (I know that's just me - I'm not a great gets-excited about TV person). A good storyteller yourself here.

So why and how do you do this in the car?

Real nice interview too. I think shorter is the way to go. 30 minutes was nice.

#8 — May 7, 2005 @ 15:00PM — Eric Berlin [URL]

Thanks Temple -- I'm actually shooting for shorter than 30 minutes, but with several interviews lined up it will probably stay at around 30 for the time being.

The TV segment is going to go bye bye as well, at least for now. As I've been mentioning, I feel like I'm starting to make the transition to what works for my radio show as compared to print, so I'm looking at, for the time being:

- Show Intro
- Talk about something going on in the week/ something I wrote about / some kind of personal story
- Featured Song #1
- Interview segement / "something" else (though thankfully I believe I'll have interviews to play for at least the next month or so)
- Featured Song #2
- Outro

So I'm cutting away some of the bloat and bluster, will likely leave the staged comedy bits to The Duke for the time being.

Still kind of figuring it all out, which is why feedback was fantastic.

Wife was definitely not in favor of the TV segment... (did she use the dread? I believe she did...).

But show #5 actually worked fairly well for TV as I had my friend (a professor of philosophy, no less) on the show and we rapped about The Apprentice. That worked much better, I think, than my mere blatherings and regurgitation of Cathode Ray Fray-in-print.

#9 — May 7, 2005 @ 15:01PM — Eric Berlin [URL]

Oh -- in case that wasn't enough for y'all:

Recording in car is as simple as me with a laptop and a mike inside my automobile. That's how I recorded those Traffic Report things... they were live cuts of me being pissed / psychotic whilst stuck in traffic. There's lots of post-production stuff that goes on, but the actual recording of vocals process is very simple.

#10 — May 7, 2005 @ 15:20PM — Temple Stark [URL]

That's right - I haven't heard that one yet.

This is easy isn't it? How do I know? Because II had a very preliminary effort started the other day. Just audio doodling.

#11 — May 8, 2005 @ 02:59AM — Eric Berlin [URL]

First the doodling comes... then the addiction!
