DVD Pick of the Week: 5/3
Published May 03, 2005
I am going to do something a little bit different this week. I will not be choosing a traditional DVD as pick of the week. Rather, this weeks pick is a soundtrack which comes with a bonus DVD.
This week's pick is the soundtrack for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It is for a film which I am anxiously looking forward to coming out later this month. The CD comes with a DVD featuring video, dialog, and music from all six of the films. It also features narration from Ian McDiarmid, aka Senator Palpatine, aka The Emperor.
I have read that it is presented in anamorphic widescreen and has both Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM stereo sound. It reportedly has a running time in the vicinity of 70 minutes. Needless to say, I cannot wait to get my hands on this.
Here are some others to keep an eye out for:
- The Chorus. French film, I have heard this is good, but have not had much interest.
- Enduring Love. I missed this in the theater, but it looks interesting. A tale of two guys who have a strange bond after witnessing a death.
- Gantz: Terminal Dispatch Vol. 4. A rather twisted anime series.
- Jeff Healey Band: Live at Montreaux (1999). I haven't listened to him for awhile, but he is an amazing guitar player.
- Microcosmos. A documentary about insects, I have wanted to see this for awhile.
- National Treasure. Decent little adventure flick. Nothing to write home about.
- The Phantom of the Opera. Not perfect, but still enjoyable and sporting some fabulous set design and a scene stealing performance from Emmy Rossum.
- Pocahontas: 10th Anniversary Edition. I've never seen this, and cannot say I have ever been interested in it, but I have read some good things about it.
- Spaceballs: Collector's Edition. Ludicrous Speed! How can anyone not love this movie? Just in times for the last Star Wars film.
- Star Trek: Enterprise - Complete First Season. As the final season draws to a close, the first season comes to DVD. The first season was pretty good, but the only one I am interested in is the fourth.
- Vampires: Turning. The second sequel to John Carpenter's Vampires. Not sure if it will be any good, but may be worth checking out.
That's it! I hope you like it.
