Disclaimer - The Mondo Irlando Podcast contains more swearwords than one may find socially acceptable. A multitude of F's, plenty of Shit's, and even one or two C's get flung around the airwaves like nobody's business. If in doubt, do not listen, is what.

From out the gutters of Mondo Irlando springs The Mondo Podcast Episode Seven, plucked from amidst the filth and cack by the digital grip of Blogcritics.org

You don't need an iPod or peripheral MP3 player to hear, just right-click the MP3 and save it someplace humid, or alternatively, left-click to listen online.

There seems to be a bit of a kafuffle with the yahoos at Yahoo with regards data transfer or some such. If you're having trouble downloading, or you only get half of it or some fucked up thing, please try again a little bit later.

The Playlist

Adam Green - Bluebirds

This jaunty number is plucked from Green's fantastic Friends Of Mine. Following a stint with anti-folk heroes The Mouldy Peaches, Green set off on his own for to carve witty, vulgar, catchy as hell pop songs featuring plenty talk of "cunts" and "suicide" and "Your daddy nailed me to the cross" etc.

Whiskeytown - Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart

One of my favorite bands of all time, is the crux of what The Duke makes of Whiskeytown. In case you didn't know, the front-man for these alt. country mavericks was none other than David Ryan Adams, who soon ditched the "David" and went ahead with crafting a remarkable solo career. I hear he has a new album out on Monday, and let The Duke announce that I can't fucking wait.

Willy Mason - Where The Humans Eat

The title track from Mason's latest record, and a wonderful slab of low-key blues type shenanigans.

Ben Folds Five - Song For The Dumped

From the classic Whatever And Ever Amen, this is something of an anti break-up song. Rather than whine, moan, weep and so on, Ben and pals wanna yell about "Fuck you too!" and "Gimmie my money back, you bitch!"

Morrissey - This World Is Full Of Crashing Bores

I bounced back and forward and left and right with regards what Morrissey track I was gonna play, before finally settling for this wonderful number off of You Are The Quarry. A rousing affair concerning "uniformed whores" and "lock-jawed pop-stars thicker than pig shit".

The Distillers - Love Is Paranoid

And finally, something suitably frantic from Brody and friends. This is from Coral Fang, i.e., the post Tim Armstrong break-up record. Thanks Brody. I had a dream about you one time.

Thanks folks.

Yes! When a new Mondo show has been issued from the heavens, I thank the Lord [of your choosing] as I have something to get me through another long trek through the Cali desert.

I'll check this tomorrow Duke, on my way to the place referred to as the High Desert. Hope there's a Subway up there (the sandwich kind).

#2 — April 13, 2005 @ 03:38AM — Joel Caris [URL]

Just listened, Duke, and it was fucking fantastic. Damn if I didn't laugh out loud repeatedly. I hardly even knew what the fuck was going on there at the end with GG, but I sure as hell was laughing over it. Thanks for the entertainment.

I need to delve into the archives and listen to the older shows.

#3 — April 13, 2005 @ 06:08AM — Eric Berlin [URL]

Show #5 is a masterpiece, Joel, if I may use such a word. They're all pretty great, however.

#4 — April 13, 2005 @ 10:13AM — Aaron, Duke De Mondo [URL]

hey folks

eric - i look forward to your opinions, as ever!

Joel, thanks for joinin the mondo listening sect. with regards the ending, um, without spoiling events, it was my homage to good will hunting. hence the beard and the repeated phrase. heh.

#5 — April 13, 2005 @ 13:25PM — Temple Stark [URL]

See, I was at work trying to write an article about immigration today and it was the very definition of hard work.

Because I was listening to The Seven and doing these things all at once:

1- Trying to read my hybrid shorthand

2- Stop laughing out loud at the Poltergeist. As a result they turn into, well not girlish, but hand-over-the-mouth stiffled giggles. I'd say damn that GG. but well, that's already happened

3- Type said notes on page and try to organzie my thoughts

4 - Answer the phone and stiffle the giggles, because I never know who's on the other end of the phone and it could quite literally be tragedy.

5 - Rewinding, and wondering, "Why I'm rewinding.

6 - Thinking it was an inspired choice to replay Whiskeytown's tune because it sounded great - better than the other dingleberries played.

7 - When Morrissey came on I was able to enjoy him because I quite literally (again) have not heard a beep out of him on my stereo or anywhere for about 10 years. That absence has made the heart grow, ... tolerable. I enjoyed that too.

8 - Oh and I was intensely distracted around the 22:00 mark as I got a free plug. Woooohoooo. Thank you. Very "biologically enhanced" reaction indeed. Now, I'm going to work harder on the legal side of things, including an interview with an RIAA rep.

#6 — April 13, 2005 @ 13:39PM — Aaron, Duke De Mondo [URL]

heh, i do apologise for the adverse affect on your article-writing, temple. I'm sure GG would be very proud however, were he to be informed.

And yeah, man, the Whiskeytown is fantastic. God i love those sons a bitches.

a decade without morrissey?? however did you cope!?

and i'm looking forward to your pursuits in the legal side of things.

#7 — April 13, 2005 @ 13:43PM — Joel Caris [URL]

Ohh, I think I missed the beard. I had it burned on CD and was listening in the car and, admittedly, I think I missed a little bit of the setup on the ending. It makes sense now. But I'll suggest you take it as a compliment that, even without getting the reference at the time, it was still hilarious as all fuck.

Eric, I will have to check out #5. I think it was #3 that I listened to most of, but I need to figure out which one because I never did finish it.

#8 — April 13, 2005 @ 13:51PM — Aaron, Duke De Mondo [URL]

probably 3 is as good a place to start as any. the first two i think are a bit crap, to be honest.

and it's my fault, most likely, that the GG carry-on confused you. very very self indulgent reference that was, and one that was drawn out simply cause it amused me. heh. what can you do?

#9 — April 13, 2005 @ 13:56PM — Joel Caris [URL]

I would say amusing yourself should be a primary goal in these things. The more fun you're having, the more fun the audience is likely to have. And that's one of the things I like about these--you seem to be enjoying yourself. If the audience misses a reference or two, that's not the end of the world. I love Buffy and Family Guy and The Simpsons and lord knows I've missed plenty of references in all of those shows. Doesn't make them not entertaining.

#10 — April 13, 2005 @ 14:05PM — Mark Saleski [URL]

a decade without morrissey?? however did you cope!?

i've gone my whole life without Morrissey.

...unless you count the "How Soon Is Now" riff in Soho's "Hippy Chick".

#11 — April 13, 2005 @ 14:17PM — Aaron, Duke De Mondo [URL]

good lord mark! the very thought chills me inner guts. i do believe Bona Drag should be #1 on the list of Things Mark Must Acquire As Of The Very Shortly

#12 — April 13, 2005 @ 14:23PM — Mark Saleski [URL]

hmmm....well, so far, i have found no good uses for Morrissey.

though dawn sez he's good for clearing the house of unwanted and annoying teenagers.

i just might check it out though.

#13 — April 14, 2005 @ 00:13AM — Eric Berlin [URL]

Another serving of greatness, Duke. This Mondo "thing" got me through another trip over the LA mountains and into the vast wastes of desert. Best moment: the priest and porn phone call, subtle genius.

That Distillers record is totally kick ass, by the way, the entirety of it.

Really liked the Green and Whiskeytown numbers as well. Great blend of music and your own personal stylings.

#14 — April 20, 2005 @ 10:54AM — Aaron, Duke De Mondo [URL]

folks - due to unforseen technical difficulties Podcast 8 is gonna be next week, instead of today, as it would've been had said technical difficulties not forbidden it.

it'll be worth the wait i would say, but i'd by lying my stinkin hole off.

#15 — April 20, 2005 @ 10:57AM — Temple Stark [URL]

Ooooooh you missed the 4/20 release. I had envisioned a lot of tssssssssssst, puff puff comedy of the stoned sort.

Thanks for letting your podcast fans know, though.

- Temple
