DVD review: Hell or just touring?

Live at Sheffield
Hell is for Heroes
(Demon)

This is a live video plus extras from much-touted emo band Hell is For Heroes. It is a very much low-budget affair, but you get quite a bit for yer money; including some amusing interviews and a short "road diary" film.

It's almost charming in its low-fi graphics and simple interface. It is very much what you see is what you get and sometimes that is enough. The sound on the live gig is perfectly acceptable and the band were in good form for it. Fans of the band will definitely be all over this DVD to see their heroes at their best. Most amusing for me was the track "Quiet Riot" which made me think of doofus in a toupee: Kevin Dubrow.

Interestingly enough, the more I listened to this DVD (after watching it the first time) the more these low-fi rockers endeared themselves. There are no prententions from this lot; they deliver what they do best with aplomb. If you like the band this is to be recomended and if you have an interest in this type of music you might want to pick it up.

Rating: 4/5

Marty's band, Growing Old Disgracefully, can be found on: CD Baby His Cthulhu tales can be found at Temple of Dagon.

Marty, I moved this review to the "Music" category, where we are keeping all concert/video DVDs now.
