American Idol Season Four - Updating the Odds
Published March 29, 2005
Of more than 100,000 hopefuls, only 10 remain. This week, one more of the American Idol Season 4 finalists will be sent home. They've already beat the odds by making it this far, but what are their chances of making it all the way to the top?
I last posted my odds for the remaining contestants two weeks ago. Here's an update:
Mikalah Gordon - Previous Odds: 40:1 - Current Odds: None
After Lindsey Cardinale became the first finalist to leave the show, I correctly predicted that more voters would find Mikalah annoying than would find her charming. She's making the rounds on Access Hollywood, etc., but her moment in the spotlight will fade soon enough.
Anthony Fedorov - Previous Odds: 20:1 - Current Odds: 30:1
Anthony's fans may love him, but the rest of America is probably getting sick of hearing him by now. Ahead of tonight's performances, my bet is that he'll be the one to leave us this week.
Vonzell Solomon - Previous Odds: 20:1 - Current Odds: 25:1
Vonzell may be a decent singer, but her performances continue to come off as boring, particularly as the rest of the finalists keep upping the ante every week. Her days on the show are numbered.
Nikko Smith - Previous Odds: 30:1 - Current Odds: 20:1
Nikko's fan base has proved to be quite resilient after his surprise return to the competition in the wake of Mario Vazquez's withdrawal, keeping him out of the bottom three for two weeks running. Nonetheless, while he is a decent performer, he is out of his league among this group.
Jessica Sierra - Previous Odds: 25:1 - Current Odds: 20:1
After an appearance in the bottom three for the first round of the finals, Jessica came back strong the next week. She may continue to gain more fans every week she stays in the running, but, all in all, she just isn't among the top performers.
Scott Savol - Previous Odds: 15:1 - Current Odds: 15:1
Every week Scott stays on the show, his chances of becoming the next Ruben Studdard increase. I've said before he seems genuinely surprised each time he's not in the bottom three, and I think quite a few viewers are equally surprised. He's got a great voice, but there is more than one singer in this competition with the whole package.

I couldn't agree more. Tonight was a particuarly bad night for Jessica--she looked a little bit too much like Miss Piggy for comfort.
Vonzell at 25-1....will you take that action because if you are i want in???
nope, entertainment purposes only
that being said, there is no way Vonzell wins this season ... none
12:35 a.m. EST good night to all and I think Vonzell's performance tonight was awesome!!!

Would anyone happen to agree with me that Jessica's problem is that she is (sad to say) too ugly?
She has a great voice, and really shines vocally. But ever since I saw her in the final 12 woman I thought,
Jessica Sierra will not win because of her face. Women tend to get extra scrutiny , and Jessica won't cut it simply because of her ugly face.
For women, you have to be cute to have a chance (unless you are Fantasia). In AI2, after Motown Week, a then hideous Kimberly Locke changed her look and was all of a sudden cute. She rode that to the final 3. In AI3 part of the charm of Diana was her looks. Some could say she rode it to the finals. Part of the charm of AI1's Nikki McKibbin was how hot she was.
It's not fair to judge women by their looks, but people do (men AND women do this), and it seems like that is what Jessica is lacking for her to be the next AI: a cute face.
