The Apprentice - Episode 309 - "Pandora's Box"

Tonight's episode of The Apprentice proved just how unpredictable things can be in the corporate world. One minute, you're riding high as the boss's favorite. But one mistake, and you're out the door.

After last week's episode, it was clear that 26-year-old lawyer Erin was a favorite of the Donald's. Though her team lost, she impressed him with her on-air presentation skills. Based on her profession, though, it really wasn't that surprising that she was able to present herself well.

On the other hand, Trump had made it clear that he really had it in for Chris, particularly after the chewing tobacco incident during the mini golf challenge. Chris only skated through last week as Project Manager because John was so abysmally bad, and, going into tonight's show, I was expecting him to be the next to go.

Tonight's challenge was based at Home Depot. Each team had to design and execute a "Do-It-Yourself Clinic" in the store. They were to be judged by two executives from the company on the basis of (1) product involvement, (2) customer involvement, and (3) originality.

Magna

The only member of Magna who had not yet been a PM was Craig, of whom we've actually seen very little so far. He did not get started off on the right foot with his team when he read them what appeared to be his management philosophy and then asked them to pray with him.

Craig's communication skills continued to fail him as he tried to sell his team on the idea of teaching people how to build a storage trunk. To begin with, the rest of Magna insisted on calling the trunk a "box." And none of them wanted anything to do with it at all.

For a moment, it looked as if Magna was finished before they even began. But Craig was determined not to give up. After spending some time working on his own, he took Alex and Bren aside and called them out on their negative attitudes. Surprisingly, he was able to get them both on board quickly. From there, it was only a short leap to get Tana and Kendra involved as well.

With the team finally pulling together, the clinic itself seemed to turn out well. Magna did a great job of getting whole families involved by having children make handprints with paint on the trunks, while at the same time walking the adults through the actual construction. While it may not have been the most original idea, the presentation went well enough.

Net Worth

Angie used her love of everything Home Depot to make a big pitch to be PM, and the rest of her team readily agreed. Stephanie concurred on the greatness of the store, but Erin didn't even seem to ever have heard of it before.

Net Worth had a harder time coming up with an idea. They talked about doing something with crown molding, but ended up deciding on a "mobile kitchen island" for their DIY clinic.

Already down a man, the team was hindered further in its efforts by Erin's compete lack of knowledge or interest in the task. Angie finally managed to put her to work promoting the clinic with fliers, but by then it was too late.

The biggest problem with Net Worth's final product, particularly when compared to Magna's, was that it was not interactive at all. Not only did the team do most of the work, they didn't do it very well.

I agree that Tana will be the next Apprentice.

Erin should have kept her mouth shut, as Trump was clearly going to fire Chris. She was the right choice to get fired today.

Chris is strikes me as being a tad too unprofessional at times, too much so to win it overall. The chewing tobacco thing is just plain silly during business hours.

I think it will be interesting to see if Chris hold to his promise to stop chewing now that he made it through by the skin of his teeth.

Erin deserved to go. She belongs on "America's Next Top Model," not "The Apprentice." I think it was not only her comment to Trump but the accompanying wink that did her in.

Erin should have been fired a long time ago... Few really saw her for what she is. She had always been a "wise aleck", and that she had Trump by his "xxxxs".

I think Trump was pretty sure he'd fire Erin in the first place; he was just using her to goad Chris into defending himself. She deserved to go. She did have a nice ass, though, and I for one will miss it.

gotta agree with rodney on the derriere thang...but it was a little shock to hear that she was a former beauty queen. really? her face looks kinda, uhm...odd to me.

Don't worry about "accurate and poignant" Erin, though; one glance at her website shows she has already landed on her feet. She has a local TV show, "Inside Philadelphia," that will air soon, and it looks like she's getting lots of other modeling and media stuff lined up. Looks and law can take you pretty far, I think.

Rodney - Just last night I said to my wife that Erin would be a great TV announcer. She's vapid and ultra-confident. She'll be smashing.

Erin was so ignorant! Did anyone notice the plunging red attire for the board room scene? And how she took her hair over her shoulder and smoothed it? She's the type of person that attempts to use her looks to get her to the top. When she was leaving the board room, she bent over to reveal her cleavage... clever move but yet totally stupid for a professional person. It would be interesting if Erin really does become a "tool girl" and learns everything there is to know about Home Depot/construction.

Good ridance, Erin.
