American Idol Hopefuls Get One More Shot
Published March 23, 2005
Particularly observant viewers may have noticed something askew with last night's episode of American Idol. It turns out that the phone numbers displayed on-screen for three of the contestants--Mikalah Gordon, Anwar Robinson, and Jessica Sierra--were incorrect. Thus, viewers who dialed in to vote for their favorites may have inadvertently voted for other contestants.
The producers of the show are addressing this problem with encore performances by all 11 remaining singers in a special live show tonight:
Due to an error with the graphics shown on-screen (incorrect voting numbers were displayed) during the performance recap at the end of last night's AMERICAN IDOL, a live, one-hour show will air tonight, Wednesday, March 23 9/8c on FOX, to enable a re-vote. This new show will combine new live elements with encores of Tuesday's performances from the remaining 11 contestants. So fans will end up with a triple shot this week, but, as with everything else Idol, there's bound to be some controversy.Phone lines will open at the conclusion of tonight's show and will remain open for two hours to give viewers the chance to vote for their favorite contestants and keep them in the competition. Only the voting results from tonight's show will determine who received the lowest number of votes and will be sent home this week. Tune in to see who America has chosen to stay and who is sent home on the live results show tomorrow, Thursday, March 24 9/8c live on FOX.
Were the incorrect graphics last night an honest mistake, or was it a subtle push by the producers to steer viewers towards certain contestants?
Or, more likely, is Fox doing everything it can to exploit the ratings power of "AI"? Was this "mistake" simply an excuse to generate an additional 90 minutes of prime time programming this week?

bizarre!! thanks for staying on top of it Scott

I am really tired of people looking for unsavory happenings behind the sceen of AI. In the end it would destroy the show. See the game show scandal of the 50's...So give it a rest and ..enjoy.
