TV: The Week Ahead for March 21, 2005

There's a lot on TV this week. Too much. I'll tell you what to watch and what to skip.

Monday - March 21

"24" (Fox, 9:00pm EST)

Still cracking along on his fourth worst day ever, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) has already single-handedly rescued the U.S. Secretary of Defense from terrorists and averted five nuclear meltdowns. As the plot continues to get more and more improbable, the show keeps getting more and more entertaining. Verdict: Watch it.

"CSI: Miami" (CBS, 10:00pm EST)

Tony Hawk plays against type in a guest starring role as an extreme skateboarder who winds up dead while working on a new video game. Could be worth it just to hear the line "This isn't just video capture--it's a snuff film!" uttered completely deadpan. Verdict: TiVo it.

"Nanny 911" (Fox, 8:00pm EST) and "Supernanny" (ABC, 10:00pm EST)

The latest round of competing reality TV shows has dueling Mary Poppins clones educating American parents with good, old-fashioned British discipline. Both shows appear to follow the same general plot: kids out of control, parents at loose ends, enter the nanny and on to a seemingly happy conclusion. Only worthwhile for those who want to feel good about their own parenting skills. Verdict: Skip it.

Tuesday - March 22

"American Idol" (Fox, 9:00pm EST)

C'mon, you know you love it. And none of the other networks has the nerve to put up anything new against it, accept for CBS with "NCIS," and there's probably a 30-year age difference between the viewers for those two shows. Verdict: Watch it.

"Project Greenlight" (Bravo, 8:00pm EST)

In case you missed it, the premiere of the third season plays again tonight. See the Hollywood machine from the inside. Verdict: TiVo it.

"Blind Justice" (ABC, 10:00pm EST)

"SNL" was dead on with their parody of this show last week. Can "Deaf Judge" and "Idiot Doctor" be far behind? Verdict: Skip it.

Wednesday - March 22

"Life On A Stick" (Fox, 9:30pm EST) - Mid-Season Replacement Alert!

The previews look bad. Not "so-bad-it's-good" bad, but really, really bad. Still, are you really going to bother to change the channel after the "American Idol" results? Verdict: Watch it--it may not be around for long.

"Lost" (ABC, 8:00pm EST) - Drama Pick Of The Week

super job on this - thanks Scott! Heard from Advance today, they are thrilled with your efforts

Scott -- It looks like Bravo is shoing the premiere and a new episode of Project Greenlight tonight.

And I contend they're both must-sees!

Also: no love to The Apprentice, The Contender, Making the Band, PoweR Girls, or The Shield?

Thanks, EO -- glad things are going well with Advance. I'm enjoying reading all of the TV writing as opposed to just writing it for a change. My job is made pretty easy by the consistently high quality of the posts.

EB -- Apprentice was a clips episode last week. As for the other shows, I don't plan to repeat myself in this column, so I am sure I will get around to all of them eventually.

Apprentice was a clips episode last week.

I thought that you're previewing the week ahead though.

I don't plan to repeat myself in this column.

So you'll never mention the same show twice?

Just curious...

Trump et al. may make it into next week's write-up. I think for a column like this, there is little point in talking about the same shows over and over again, so, yes, I don't plan to mention the same show in the space of at least a few months. There is enough on to spread the love around.
