Anthony Gomes-A "Genuine" Hidden Gem
Published March 17, 2005
For almost a year now, I have been a Joe Bonamassa forum regular. In early January 2005 someone posted on the forum, and in the message brought up Anthony Gomes. Let me dig for the post.
I have heard Anthony Gomes Band brought up many times through Joe's web site, other fans and blues articles that I have come across. Oh, yes, work with me here. You need to be corrected, I certainly did. Okay, we are going to play a rhyming game. Say with me now: domes, homes and GOMES! It is not go-mez, get it right. hehehe Anthony might be Canadian, but I recently found out that he is also Portuguese (Thanks, Larry and Garwin). But, I finally met someone that is as translucent white as I am and baby I glow in the dark!
Ah, here is the start of how I was convinced that I should go see Anthony. On Joe's forum. This message was originally about me going to the 28-Feb-05 show in Rockland, ME. I had many people email me including Larry G. emailing me a link to a video to download!
"Genuine" you ask? I was emailed by Larry (street team special agent) that he would be getting AGB booked in the NY area and that he would keep me posted when and where. Well, Larry worked his magic and got Anthony booked at The Parting Glass Pub, Saratoga Springs, NY. Larry, the last time I was in Saratoga, NY was in '88 going to a concert at SPAC, Guns & Roses opening for Aerosmith! Any way, after being at the pub for a bit, I went out to get fresh air and when I came back in Anthony walked right up to me, introduced him self and shook my hand. Whoa, okay where's the candid camera? I told him that I was on JBB street team and that I drove in from North of Boston (four hours one way) to see his show and I was to meet Larry. He took me over to Larry and introduced us. Now, that is genuine. This is when I got introduced to the whole table, including Tony Basile, AGB's road manager (sounds like you wear many hats, Tony). Way cool! I was asked to join the group at their table. (I am sorry if I forgot anyone of great importance that I was introduced to). Genuine also meaning sincere, this more toward Tony and Larry. Thank you so much for supporting my ideas.
