"American Idol" - Episode 418a - Lindsey Cardinale Departs

Written by Scott Pepper

No real surprise on "American Idol" tonight that Lindsey Cardinale was the first of the Top 12 finalists to leave the show. While she does have a nice voice and is certainly easy on the eyes, her performances have been weak and largely unimpressive.

The three lowest vote-getters, however, probably were not what many viewers were expecting. Joining Lindsey at the bottom of the list were blonde bombshell Jessica Sierra and mini-Barbara Streisand Mikalah Gordon.

Prediction Scorecard

While I had originally picked Lindsey as tonight's loser, Nikko Smith's return to the competition caused me to change my prediction. On the other hand, ZMethos correctly predicted Lindsey's expulsion.

Scott: 0:0
ZMethos: 1:1

Hopefully, I'll bounce back next week. In the meantime, let's take a look at the remaining finalists and their chances of making all the way to the grand finale in May.

"AI" Season 4 Odds Update

Mikalah Gordon - No Previous Odds - Current Odds: 40:1
One of the lowest vote getters tonight, Mikalah may have a fan base, but most viewers probably find her pretty annoying.

Nikko Smith - No Previous Odds - Current Odds: 30:1
He is only back in the competition by a fluke. While Nikko's return may have mobilized his fans, don't expect them to keep up the interest for long.

Jessica Sierra - No Previous Odds - Current Odds: 25:1
Again, once a contestant appears in the bottom three, it's a good bet that their days are numbered. This competition only has room for one blonde, and Jessica isn't it.

Vonzell Solomon - No Previous Odds - Current Odds: 20:1
While she's shown off her talent time and again, Vonzell doesn't stand out from the group, making gaining a lot of votes in the later rounds pretty difficult.

Anthony Fedorov - Previous Odds: 18:1 - Current Odds: 20:1
The same viewers who voted for Clay Aiken in Season 2 will keep on voting for Anthony, but don't expect him to do as well as Clay. He'll probably crap out about the same time John Stevens did last season.

Scott Savol - Previous Odds: 18:1 - Current Odds: 15:1
Scott just keeps getting better and better. His style is improving, and his voice is consistently solid. But it's still hard to picture him as the American Idol.

Carrie Underwood - Previous Odds: 10:1 - Current Odds: 12:1
With the best voice in the competition, Carrie could make it as far as the top five. But limited to the country music niche, she may not have the broader appeal to get much further.

Constantine Maroulis - Previous Odds: 8:1 - Current Odds: 10:1
Constantine made a great case for himself this week, but with another rocker splitting the votes, he may not make it into the final three.

Anwar Robinson - Previous Odds: 8:1 - Current Odds: 15:2
Despite a misstep this week, Anwar has a huge following and is definitely one of the best singers this season.

Nadia Turner - Previous Odds: 6:1 - Current Odds: 6:1
An amazing performer, Nadia has yet to show anything other than talent, professionalism, and style. This could have been her year, if not for Bo.

Bo Bice - No Previous Odds - Current Odds: 3:1
Not a clear favorite, but the closest thing we have to it this early on. Bo is the consummate performer, and he's shown enough variety and range to make me think he just might win it all.

< The same viewers who voted for Clay Aiken in Season 2 will keep on voting for Anthony, but don't expect him to do as well as Clay. He'll probably crap out about the same time John Stevens did last season.>>

Why is everyone assuming this. The Clay fans that I know aren't voting at all and most of the ones that are, are voting for anyone but Anthony, Bo seems to be the most popular.

Did the people that voted for Anthony fill out some survey I am not aware of that they are people that voted for Clay Aiken 2 years ago? I really hate it when people make these statements based on nothing but it sounds good. Have you been to any Clay Aiken message board to see what they think? Well let me tell you. Of those that are watching the top favorites are 1. Anwar, 2. Nadia, 2. Bo. That is fact based on what is being said on three of the biggest Clay Aiken message boards. Clay Aiken fans are fans because of Clay Aiken's voice. Anthony not only does not physically resemble Clay but vocally he is much weaker.

I am a huge, huge fan of Clay Aiken and he will remain my favorite artist and American Idol but this year I am supporting Anwar and Nadia.

Anthony is good but he is no Clay Aiken. Clay is very versatile, he has a beautiful, fantastic and solid voice, his voice range is definitely wider, and Clay has a charisma while Anthony is rather insipid. Clay can sing circles around Anthony.

In addition, there are more contestants this season that are miles better than Anthony.

You are so wrong about Clay fans, if anything they are working against Anthony and hurting his chances. If you don't know that when it is written all over his boards your opinions aren't worth reading. Check your facts.

The guys this year make Clay look like an amateur. Clay has a big voice but it is whiny and twangy and he cannot move to save his life. Anthony is heads above Clay in looks and vocal tone, he just needs to find himself and get over the nerves.

I disagree with you that someone finishing in the bottom 3 at any point guarantees they will be gone soon. Examples of finalists who have been in the bottom three before include Ruben Studdard, Justin Guarani, Fantasia and last year, Diana DeGarmo. (Clay and Kelly were rare escapees). Diana in fact was in the bottom three THREE times early on before finishing as runner up.
And I think you are under-estimating Nikko's fans. He will last longer than you think.
Often when someone is in the bottom three one week, the fans will galvanize the next week and save them, which helps Mikalah and Jessica. This places someone like Vonzell, who has very weak support online, in serious danger. Scott has the weakest support among the guys besides Nikko. Then it's Anthony. Anwar, Constantine & Bo appear safe for now. Ditto with Nadia & Carrie.

I have to say, Ruben shouldn't have won, everyone knows it should have been Clay or Kimberly to win. Justin, didn't win, and Fantasia's winning was a toss-up, it could have easily been Latoya as she was every bit as good as Fantasia and much better looking. No need to even get me started on Diana DeGarmo as I never thought she should have been on stage as she had no presence, no voice, and yeah just clearly, in my mind, should have been in the bottom three every time.

Just my two cents.

I just have to say that the only reason Anthony is still in the competition is pity votes and the elder peoples votes Anthony! I love Constantine he is cute very talented a great performer and has a unique voice, Jessica Sierra has that look of a performer and a great voice, McKaila Gorden has a awesome voice she is cocky and confident and I like that That is going to be the top three I can guarantee it.

thanks Scott, I never got Lindsey at all but thought she did better than usual this week. I also figured it would be Nikko to go since he had already been voted out. You never know.

I think the Clay/Anthony comparisons are largely superficial: their personalities aren't really that much alike, Clay has a bigger voice, and Anthony is much less dorky looking than Clay was before they rearranged him

JESSICA SIERRA ROCKS!!!! Um in case you forgot, KIMBERLEY LOCKE was in the bottom three ALMOST every week since Week One of Season 2 and she made it to the Top Three :) Jessica could just do that as well
