Caribe to drop their best cigar?

Written by Matthew Rosen

Having been involved with the cigar industry for over two decades, it's not uncommon for customers and industry insiders to ask about my favorite cigar. Not to ruffle up the feathers of those enamored with Opus X and the few Cubans they can get a hold of, my premier pick of late has been the Camacho Diploma Maduro. And just as this satisfying smoke is starting to get the recognition it deserves, it appears as though Caribe Imported Cigars is discontinuing the Camacho Diploma Maduro line.

According to Caribe rep Jill Hoffman, Caribe is maneuvering to discontinue both the Diploma Maduro and the Monarca Maduro in an effort to focus attention on the Camacho Special Limited Reserve line. Appalled that Caribe could let go of such a fine cigar, I went to the source, speaking with Christian Eiroa, owner of Caribe Imported Cigars. His stance was that no Caribe, was not in fact discontinuing the line. Naturally his rep called me back right after this conversation to say yes, they were discontinuing the line.

What's a Camacho Diploma Maduro fan to do? Are they discontinuing or aren't they? My fellow independent cigar shop buddies and I are in agreement - there's not time to wait and find out. We're buying up as many as we can. And hell, we might even let a few customers in on one from time to time.

Well if you need a good cigar to replace it as your favorite may I suggest the Carlos Torano Tribute Maduro. I think is in the same price range as the Diploma. I've yet to try one of the Diplomas so now you've made me eager to try one before they are gone.

The Carlos Torano Tribute is a great cigar, but you do have to take into account that the Carlos Torano Tribute '04 are a limited production cigar, and only twelve hundred boxes of three sizes were made, and once they are gone, they are gone for good.

As much as I love all the
cigars that the Torano's produce, in my opinion, right now, the best cigar on the market is the Camacho Diploma Maduro. I have a decent supply right now, so if you have not tried one, check out my website. The Camacho Diploma Maduro, and the Camacho Monarca Maduro's are also cheaper than the
Tribute '04's. Since you like the Carlos Torano Tribute '04, have you
tried the Carlos Torano Tribute 03's? I still have some left, and they are
also excellent cigars...

Thank you for your post, Matthew. Your point has been well taken and accepted.

Yes, we have been considering to cancel production on the Diploma Maduro. However, in light of your e - mail, we will reconsider this.

As for now, we will not eliminate this line. We can't express our gratitude enough. Thank you!

Christian Eiroa
