I've tried telling myself I hate cookies. It works right up until I see a cookie. But, I have switched to using smaller plates and that does work.

It is good to have a mantra, Eric. Mine is "four legs GOOD, two legs BAAD." Oops! - I meant: "Use a smaller plate, and start the day with an apple." My method has allowed me to lose 380 pounds so far, off and on. [grin]
