"American Idol" - The First Four Eliminations
Published February 23, 2005
That left only Jared Yates and Travis Tucker on stage, and Jared was almost immediately discarded. He took the news rather well, even if he did look a bit shell-shocked. His encore performance was uninspiring, and it's safe to say his professional singing career is over before it even began.
The second round of eliminations was equally tedious. From the women's group, Sarah Mather was removed, having gotten the second-lowest number of votes.
When it came to the men, however, the antics continued. Six contestants were brought up and stood in two lines. First, Mario and Scott, both of who were declared safe. Then Bo and David, also both safe. It looked like it was going to come down to Anwar and Joseph (which was definitely bad news for Joseph), but the producers decided to mix things up a bit, and they were both safe as well. Unceremoniously, the camera swung over to Judd Harris, still sitting side stage, as it was announced that he would be leaving the show.
Quite frankly, the way in which the contestants were told of their eliminations tonight was horrible. In trying to maintain suspense up to the last minute, the producers have essentially managed to insult both the contestants and the audience with their messy slight-of-hand. While this may just be a glorified pageant, there's no reason to rob it of all dignity.
Who's Next To Go?
Don't ask me. We ran 0-for-4 this week, with Joseph and Travis predicted to go from the men and Celina and Janey expected gone on the girl's side. After the first round, I'll let those predictions ride until we see how everybody does next week.
