What Gender Is Your Brain?
For DrPat:

Your Brain is 33.33% Female, 66.67% Male

You have a total boy brain

Logical and detailed, you tend to look at the facts

And while your emotions do sway you sometimes...

You never like to get feelings too involved

There are several books that cover the measured (and interpreted or statistical) differences in performance between male and female when doing intellectual or technical tasks.

The test above may have been influenced by the treatise by Mohr and Jessel (Brain Sex: The Real Difference Between Men and Women), who developed a quiz to determine the extent of male/female characteristic in the brain, based on responses to questions or situational decisions. Their book is a balanced mix of technical and accessible:

For the nonscientist, they translate considerable research into the structural and organizational differences between male and female brains, demonstrating how these differences make men more aggressive and competitive and better at skills that require spatial ability and mathematical reasoning, and women more sensitive to nuances of expression and gesture, more adept at judging character. Women, it seems, are more people-oriented than men, who are more interested in things... denying gender differences means ignoring their value.
Baron-Cohen (The Essential Difference: The Truth about the Male and Female Brain) also finds evidence in the statistical results, as well as from his studies of predominantly-male disorders (characterized as "the male brain type taken to the extreme"): autism and Aspergers Syndrome.
Men have a tendency to analyze and construct systems while women are inclined to empathize... [but] emphasizing that not all men have the typically "male" brain, which he calls Type "S," and not all women have the typically female brain (Type "E")...
So have fun, take the BlogThing test, and think about your results as we keep an eye on the Larry Summers inquisition.

Thanks.

I got 'Your Brain is 53.33% Female, 46.67% Male' and

'Your brain is a healthy mix of male and female
You are both sensitive and savvy
Rational and reasonable, you tend to keep level headed
But you also tend to wear your heart on your sleeve'.

#2 — February 23, 2005 @ 17:14PM — DrPat [URL]

Interesting to me is that my spouse also came up (marginally) on the male side of the ledger, but the write-up was identical to yours, Angela:

Your Brain is 46.67% Female, 53.33% Male

Your brain is a healthy mix of male and female
You are both sensitive and savvy
Rational and reasonable, you tend to keep level headed
But you also tend to wear your heart on your sleeve.

Go figure...

:-)

The write-up probably varies the further from the center... would be interesting to see whether the '33.33% male and 66.67% female', your 'opposite' on the other side, would have a different write-up. Would have to, I'd imagine... opposite and all.

This entry is more evidence that as a science, psychology is right up there with astrology and dowsing.

Take a quality Gender Test. Find out the real scoop without having some PhD. condescend to you with really obvious, stupid questions.

My Results:

Your Brain is 40.00% Female, 60.00% Male

You have a total boy brain
Logical and detailed, you tend to look at the facts
And while your emotions do sway you sometimes...
You never like to get feelings too involved

Gawd, Shark, for a minute I was taking your comment seriously - then I clicked on the link, and found:

#3: A MALE friend of mine wants to talk about relationship problems he's having with his significant other; I respond by:
...A) ...sending him a nice, thoughtful Hallmark card that contains encouraging words of friendship and sympathy.
...B) ...getting him drunk, taking all of his money in a few games of pool, mocking his sexuality, joking about his family life -- and finally beating the shit out of him on his front lawn at 3:00 A.M. 'cause he got smart on the way home.

#4: A FEMALE friend of mine wants to talk about relationship problems she's having with her significant other; I respond by:
...A) ...spending hours listening, sharing tears, and giving good advice.
...B) ...pretending to be sympathetic, and then offering to share my bed in case she wants to leave him for an hour or two some Saturday night.

Sorry, Doc, but the "Gender Brain Quiz" just friggin' BEGGED to be mocked.

Like most BlogThing quizzes, What Gender Is Your Brain? is fluff disguised as a serious meme. The topic of brain gender, though, is one I've been following in a desultory way ever since I met my loving spouse (34 years ago and counting...).

That said, your mock quiz is certainly funny, Shark, and pokes holes just where the straw-man (or -woman) is weakest.

Doc: "...The topic of brain gender, though, is one I've been following..."

Me too.

And I have some very important theories on the subject:

I believe that being able to pee standing up changed the basic structure of the male brain --and conversely, etc etc.

ie.

Female squatting = nesting imperative (care/compassion/nuturing)

Male standing = swordplay imperative (violence/nuclear weapons/environmental destruction)

Just think of it: the Earth and most living species are basically doomed because men have an external hose that they are able to equate with a weapon.

You're welcome!

for those interested.. im 17 soon to be 18 and am questioning my sexuality (not after taking this quiz)

Your Brain is 66.67% Female, 33.33% Male

Your brain leans female
You think with your heart, not your head
Sweet and considerate, you are a giver
But you're tough enough not to let anyone take advantage of you!

Ouch! Another blow to my masculinity.

A far more useful indicator is Myers-Briggs. At a family dinner recently, my sister-in-law and I found that we're the same INTJ type, while our spouses are the same INFP type. As a lark, I asked her to take to the brain-gender quiz, and she also came out with a "total boy brain".

Her husband, though, wound up with a high testosterone score:

Your Brain is 6.67% Female, 93.33% Male

You've got the brain of a manly man
Feelings, schmeelings... tears aren't for you.
You could break both legs and not get misty eyed.
A great problem solver, nothing ever phases you.
Interestingly, we're all engineers except my sister-in-law, who has a degree in architectural design.

I scored a perfect 10. Where do we go from here?
