Wine Doggy Bags?

If you knew that thirty states in the Union currently allow you to pack-out a half finished bottle of wine from your favorite restaurant, you are a step ahead of your neighbor. It seems that it is the exception, not the rule, that a restaurant will forbid taking an unfinished bottle of wine home. Michigan is currently attempting to become the 31st state to allow a wine doggy bag, and surely it will not be the last.

Restaurants in states that currently allow wine to be resealed and sent with the customer argue that it's better for business. Customers may be more likely to buy an expensive bottle of wine after all, if they know they can take the remainder with them when they leave. There are also arguments that it can reduce drinking and driving as the pressure to finish the entire bottle before leaving the restaurant is lifted.

Is this revelation news to you? It could be that you have unnecessarily either a) Left an unfinished bottle of wine at a restaurant or b) Slammed an unfinished bottle of wine before leaving a restaurant. Both of which are high tragedies for the likely amount of love and devotion that went into growing the wine. The beauty of wine is that it's an opportunity to enjoy the moment, to savor your life and your loved ones - this is the foundation of a healthy wine lifestyle. So next time you find yourself caught between a rock and a hard place, be sure and ask the restaurant staff if your state allows wine doggy bags!

I actually found a company that supplies the bags so it looks like this is becoming more and more popular. For anyone interested, the company is www.winedoggybag.com. It looks like they sell bags to restaurants and consumers alike.

Isn't it a shame that people have to attack others on this blog. Whatever happened to some integrity. As a food and beverage manager I've been using winedoggybag for more than one year. I've tried others but these guys have their act together and are priced right. They seem to be the standard and provide top notch customer service. I've included their URL because they don't deserve to be attacked by a so-called competitor who uses these blogs for his selfish purposes.

Our website www.togobrand.com offers "Merlot-to-go" law compliant bags for restaurants. We've seen a significant spike in regional sales, so we're now offering FREE SHIPPING on all orders shipped through October 31, 2006 - just mention the offer 06blog in the "comments" section of your online order. Cheers!

I just purchased wine to go bags from www.togobrand.com. They even have directions on the back of the bag instructing my staff on how to comply with the law.
