Straylight Run

It's a rare thing to find a new band with a song I absoulty love, it's even rarer to find a band that has five or six really meaningful and beautiful songs.
Straylight Run is a phenomenal Emo band that hasn't been getting much, if any airplay and it's a shame that corporate America can't recognize good music when it bites them on the ass.
Made from several members of Taking Back Sunday and Breaking Pangaea Straylight Run has cross the soul searching and power of Emo with a folkish vibe to create songs that not only sound beautiful but actually, as my drama and English professors used to say a lot, "Speak to a part of the human condition"
Probably my favorite song is "It's for the best." I don't listen to the allegedly "Christian" music because its pretty much all crap, so when I find a song that speaks to my faith it's a powerful thing.
it takes more time than i've ever had drains the life from me makes me want to forget as young as i was, i felt older back then more disciplined, stronger and certain but i was scared to death of eternity i was saved by grace but destroyed by naivety and i lied to myself and said it was for the best so now faith is replaced with a logic so cold i've disregarded what i was now that i'm older and i know much more than i did back then but the more i learn the more i can't understand and i've become content with this life that i lead where i drink to much and don't believe in much of anything and i lie to myself and say "it's for the best." we're moving forward, but holding ourselves back and we're waiting on something that will never comeTo me that song speaks to my faith because it's describing my faith life in so many words and its really made me examine who I am and what I've been doing.
Musically it's a piano and guitar band based around simple yet powerful arrangements. The piano opening to "Existentialism on Prom Night" is just hauntingly beautiful and pulls you right into the song.
Straylight Run doesn't really fall into a category and is probably suffering a little from that. I think they are definitely shooting for a more advanced audience then teenagers and I think like Dave Matthews Band can have a broad fan base.
They're starting to get some play on MTV2 and on better radio stations but if you run out and buy their album now you can say you were cool and liked them before they became popular.

This band has done what few dare to do. If you anything about literature and art you'll kniw how ideas become overused. Straylight has broken that by creating a beautiful and unique album. Buy it!
I love straylight run, and me an my friend just randomly picked up the cd at target not even knowing the band. It turned out they were great and we love them so much.

I saw this CD at work (I work in an electronics department) and checked it out on our preview station out of curiosity. I listened to some previews and read that it had former Taking Back Sunday members and bought it. I haven't regretted it in the least.
They really are a great band but are kind of hard to classify. They are emo, I guess, but it's a soft emo. Lots of piano, as you said, which I really like. I hope these guys find their audience, but they seem to be being largely overlooked at the moment.
"It's For The Best" is a great song. I'm also real big on "Another Word For Desperate."
Anyway, these guys are great. I hope more people start checking them out.
