Drawing on inspiration from the soulful and jazzy sides of classic disco, West Coast rising star David Harness has kicked off a new series of house mixes for Loveslap! recordings with Heartbeat, Volume I. Drawing from a wide palette of talented artists, Harness unleashes a smooth garage groove with beats that will keep the crowd dancing and eager for more. If it's a party or 90 minutes on the dancefloor, Heartbeat, Volume I is a good choice.

David Harness is a key ambassador for house in the San Francisco Bay area. Since the early 80's Harness has held dj residencies in such legendary clubs as Tilt, Lift and Club Universe. He is also one of the djs promoting house in the region via radio on station KMEL. David Harness is one of the rising stars in the world of house music.

Smooth soulful grooves dominate Heartbeat, Volume I. Harness' house divas don't belt, shout or scream. Instead their vocals glide across the beats. Track collaborations with Loveslap! label boss Charles Spencer feature a jazzy edge from keyboards, flute and muted horns. Scientific Soul's "Pimenta Malagueta" uses accordion as a unique instrumental element to stunning effect. David Harness' mixing talent and track choice truly blossoms as he moves the floor from "Pillow Talk," a sexy collaboration between New York's Marc-Alan Gray and Charles Spencer, to the loud and proud "Black Music" from San Franciso favorite Franky Boissy featuring Roland Clark.

Heartbeat, Volume I spells out the unique sound of San Francisco house. Laced with jazz, soul and world beats, David Harness' mix work unites the spirit of emergent disco of the early 70's with the technology and diverse influences of contemporary dance music. Heartbeat, Volume I begins with a call from diva Alma Horton to "Gimmie That Music" and closes with the upbeat joy of Blaze's "Found Love." Take this mix for a spin and you'll come out smiling.

I just picked up a copy of this album tonight and popped it in the car. It was enjoyable from beginning to end. I will definitely be enjoying Heartbeat for weeks to come.
