I Do Desperate Housewives
Published January 09, 2005
Last summer, when I reviewed the initial pilot of "Desperate Housewives", I disparaged it as a tacky soap opera. I saw the first couple of broadcasts, and said "eh". And then I watched a couple more. And it's back tonight, and in the first five minutes, I am totally hooked with the dark comedy and snark.
DH is a deliciously self-aware soap-opera, and I can't wait for one of the characters to go to prison to shank Martha Stewart.
And considering how "Six Feet Under" turned out, that's something to look forward to.

Shhh... Don't tell anyone, but so do I. It's a nasty little addiction, too.
Gotta run, it's on in 20 minutes!
Interesting references on Amazon buys. I thought of Twin Peaks too, the first time I saw the premiere episode. The secrets are not so secret anymore, but the biggest questions have yet to be answered.
Most of the "Twin Peaks" reference was because Sherilyn Fenn played Mary Alice in the original pilot, but she was replaced for some reason in the broadcast series.
Most of my addiction to DH is because of Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher, they act the hell out of their characters.
Bugger, I meant "Sheryl Lee" who played Laura Palmer in "Twin Peaks".
I'd LIKE to "do" Desperate Housewives Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher pant pant drool drool.
Oh, I'm sorry, did I say that out loud?
I'm absolutely in love with the show as it is... When the pilot came out, I was already hooked, despite my guilt at enjoying such a "tacky" episode. They reshot it because the actress decided to cancel her contract or something, I think, and they only had bits of the first episode to reshoot (where she was in it, for fleeting moments), so it wasn't too difficult.

Jim,
You shouldn't watch TV, most especially American major network TV. It causes brain decay.
