Lil' Pimp: Tricks and Treats

It was only a matter of time before the "pimps and whores are fucking amusing" genre and minimalist animation got together for some old school juvenile delinquency and exploitation: Night Shift meets South Park.

Based on the Internet series created by former rock musicians turned journalists turned directors Mark Brooks and Peter Gilstrap, Lil' Pimp stars Ludacris as a foul-mouthed (clip) gerbil named Weathers (clip) in an animated film about a 9 year old boy who saves the pimpin' game. The DVD will be in stores on Jan. 11th and also features Bernie Mac, Lil Kim, William Shatner and Carmen Electra.

The little boy just doesn't seem to fit in squeaky-clean suburbia. Then one day fates intervenes in the form of a bodacious working girl, Sweet Chiffon (Lil' Kim), who takes him to a bar called The Playground, a hip-hop wonderland where he befriends master pimp Fruit Juice (Bernie Mac) and is introduced to the world of flesh peddling.

But his new life is endangered by the machinations of the city's duplicitous mayor Tony Gold (William Shatner). Unless Gold can be exposed for the conniving, double-crossing pondscum that he is, the Playground and the neighborhood surrounding it will be transformed into a toxic golf course.

A multitude of startling and amusing sound clips may be summoned by the not easily offended here.

THANK YOU for the clips... Helped me decide.

#2 — January 6, 2005 @ 19:41PM — Eric Olsen

you're welcome - and what did you decide?

I hate to say it, but I decided NOT. Guess my sympathy for the amusement value of scat has declined over the years. Though I do have fond memories of a multiple viewings of an X-rated Buck Rogers. (Ever see the "Penisaurus"? THAT was funny!)

I think the humor was lost on me.

apparently lost on Sony too, who shelved it in '02 - check out this discussion among animators. Looks like a new distributor, Lionsgate, picked it up and went straight to DVD.

Another note: first feature film made all in Flash

Just rented this the other night and laughed my ass off. You guys are too uptight on this board. This has to be my favorite comedy that has come out in a while!!

I haven't caught this yet but it's going
onto the must watch list.

If you are at all interested in seeing
a more serious look at the Pimp & Whore
dynamic then I would suggest renting a
copy of "American Pimp" the Hughes Bros.
film from 1999.

Put aside all moral judgement and give
it a look. It's perversely fascinating,
funny,sad,compelling & also entertaining
as all hell. The soundtrack is great and
includes lots of cool 70's/80's funk
such as Curtis Mayfield,O-Jays,JB and
Johnny "Guitar" Watson(who besides being
an incredible bluesman dabbled in the
pimping game as well.)
