This review is almost a year old, but I'm going to take the opportunity now to say this: Stephin Merritt is the best living songwriter in America.

"All My Little Words" is just incredibly tender and beautiful.

They used it very effectively for the closing montage of an episode of The Shield. The highly conflicted gay cop has pushed away his lover, and stands alone, "unboyfriendable."

A long running comic storyline in the show involved two black dope dealers fighting over the attentions of an extremely skanky fat white girl. The last half of "All My Little Words" provided the sole commentary (no dialogue) to the resolution, as the comedy suddenly turned into a gruesome double murder. It made a very striking effect.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh in my previous comment.

I just pulled the album off iTunes and it is good indeed. The lyrics are more effective when heard in the context of the song. Nice voice. Reminds me of early 70s acts, like the Carpenters

Reminds me of Dylan's (Bob, not Thomas) comment about 'a poem is a naked person, a song is a person capable of walking by himself'

'unboyfriendable'!!!
