Wicker Park Soundtrack Album

Every so often, a film is released with a soundtrack so compelling that it overwhelms the movie. This is particularly true of the popular or fad genre-focused soundtracks. In the '80's, it was the Shocker Soundtrack with heavy metal. In the '90's, it was the Singles Soundtrack with grunge/alternative. Perhaps for the 2000's, it will be Wicker Park with indie/alternative rock. As a general rule, the movies are forgettable or just barely bearable but the soundtracks ROCK! They tend to fit the overall theme of the movie and set the tone perfectly.

The movie is a dark, obsessive love story and soon after leaving the theater, one has forgotten the details. In fact, if you're anything like me, you'll have forgotten important plot points by the time you've read the "coming attractions" posters in the lobby of the movie theater on your way out the door. It's one of those irritating movies that stars all the pretty people in Hollywood and severely lacks a good script. The dialogue is bad, the plot is slow and the story is annoying.

Not so with the soundtrack, though. The overall dark and moody feel of the movie is expressed through music. Each track is emotional and expressive while most of the lyrics reflect the obsessive love theme. Rarely do you find all of the tracks on a soundtrack that fit together and the theme so well.

Featuring eight songs that are exclusive, unreleased or rare non-album tracks from some of the hottest current and up and coming bands of today such as Lifehouse, The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie, it is a rare satisfying collection. The highlights include the exclusive acoustic version of Death Cab For Cutie's "A Movie Script Ending" and the non-album cover of Phil Collins' "Against All Odds," a song ironically featured in an obsessive love story movie from 20 years ago but taken as a whole, it's a truly enjoyable experience.

I actually liked the movie and I agree about the soundtrack. Good to own. I Just absolutely love "Maybe Tomorrow" by the Stereophonics.

Jim,

I threw this up on Advance.net.

If you are committed to good "first draft" you might want to look over the copy on Advance.net and see the small changes - and sometimes big changes. The big changes are almost always done for space, however. NB: I'm posting this message to all reviews, not singling you out at all. :-)

Mike,

I won't help you find the song, but maybe I can sway you from trying too hard.

I'm a fan of Concrete Blonde and Johnette Napolitano's voice. I've still gotta say, though, I was pretty disappointed in her cover of The Scientist.

For a more graceful version, pick up the special edition (with bonus b-sides and live cuts)of Aimee Mann's Lost In Space. Her live cover of The Scientist is the only one I've heard that does justice to the original. She even tweaks it a bit toward the end with some graceful harmonies.

Hello,

I was impressed by the movie, so much impressed that I bought the soundtrack because this on song which would not come out of my brain.

The really bad thing is that this song is not on the Soundtrack !!!

I could not tell its name or the performer to anybody because it is an acoustic song and it is not mentioned at the end of the movie.

It is used twice in the movie. First when Metthew drive with his car to through the snow and ran up the stairs to the wrong Lisa, watching the guy putting the letter under the door and red this letter after pulling it back with his belt. The second time it is played when he throw away the key of the wrong Lisas apartment and when he pulled it back out from the duct cover.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, CAN ANYBODY HELP ME IN FINDING THE PERFORMER AND THE TITLE OF THIS REALLY CATTHY TUNE !!! I have heard this part of the movie so often from the DVD now and I am so sad about the uncomplete soundtrack. It is such a cool song with Piano, Strings and Bass.

SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH, I am a kraut :-(

The song played during the dance scene is "We All Have A Map Of The Piano" by Mum, and yes, it is on the soundtrack.

Also, the one in the park with Alex and Matt is 'Strange and Beautiful' by Aqualung. Hope this answers your questions.

#27 — September 2, 2006 @ 13:27PM — Ms.Benning

i am so in love with josh hartnett! i mean you wouldnt believe how many times i have seen the movie, and i cry at the ending each time; as well as the part where he waits for her and then she's in europe and he goes home and rips all the pictures off his wall, when he's standing there with the tears in his eyes? and the huge tear rolls down... i was sobbing! how can you say this movie is a bad, dull, boring, unrealisticc, and obsessive film? yes, he is obsessive with finding her, but if you really loved someone, and you didnt hear from them in two years and then you saw them, you'd be obsessive, right? this movie is a gem, and I will never forget it. by the way, to you csaba, the SCIENTIST by COLDPLAY the lyrics go "take me back to the START" not stars... lol so the next time you parade lyrics all over the internet at least do us a favor and get them right?

#28 — October 8, 2006 @ 23:24PM — MiOwngoddess

#29 — November 12, 2006 @ 23:53PM — Lauren

the song, "good to me", is by bredan benson.

#30 — November 23, 2006 @ 22:15PM — Josh

The Song is named "Nobody said it was easy"

#31 — November 27, 2006 @ 22:55PM — Charleston

Hey Ms.Benning...I read what you wrote and liked what you said. I may not be no josh hartnett, but I know what it feels like to be in his position, at least in this movie somewhat. Call me crazy, but I've been trying to pursue the same girl ever since the first grade...and right now I'm about to turn 24. That's 17 years. If you count since I graduated high school it's a lil over 5. I don't know how she truly feels about me. I just keep getting mixed emotions the rare occasions I ever do get to see her, which is years at a time. Not that we live so far away...it's just we live different lives. I do know there is something floating out there, but it just kills me every day thinking about her. It eats at my soul, and she's all I can think about. If you have a remedy for my pain please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

The version of "The Scientist" used in this movie is by Johnette Napolitano & Danny Lohne, not Coldplay.

#33 — August 27, 2007 @ 14:15PM — ashley

#34 — August 30, 2007 @ 17:01PM — Daren

Brian, that song is from the Wicker Park score (not soundtrack) and is called "Following Daniel". It's a beautiful song.

#35 — October 29, 2007 @ 17:19PM — Vlado

Hello, i desparately need your help. I bought both Wicker park soundtrack cd and score cd but there is one song that is missing. It is instrumental song that plays for example at exactly 5th minute of the movie when Hartnett is in the restaurant with some chinese people. I simply can not find it anywhere. I am waiting. Pls help :)

#36 — May 26, 2008 @ 13:56PM — michel

i got this crazy feeling when i first watched this movie. i gave it to one of me friends and he forgot to return it during the semester break. i got it back after about a month. yesterday i saw it once more but it didn't even make me sad! maybe because i know the story it didn't have any effect on my emotions. but one thing i gotta admit, i WANT TO feel the way i felt when i first saw this movie. Oh! the mixed crooked feeling that u have is just sooo out of this world!!! i don't have words to describe it. i just wanna forget the story and see it again and again!!! :)

#37 — June 2, 2008 @ 00:37AM — kris [URL]
