Movies Awards Update - More Winners and Nominations Accounced
Published December 17, 2004
:: More film critics' awards have been announced. The Washington DC Area Film Critics Association bucked the current trend of awarding Sideways a pile of awards, instead giving Best Film to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Jamie Foxx scored twice, with Best Actor for Ray, and Best Supporting Actor for Collateral. Imelda Staunton took Best Actress for Vera Drake, and Cate Blanchett won Best Supporting Actress for The Aviator, a performance for which she is already receiving great copy.
The Toronto Film Critics gave Best Picture to - you guessed it - Sideways, Best Actor to Paul Giamatti for Sideways, and Best Actress to Imelda Staunton for Vera Drake.
Also announced, the nominations for the Satellite Awards (NOTE: this is an MS Word file), from the International Press Academy. I do not know the relationship between this group and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which awards the Golden Globes. Awards are given in 36 categories, including 12 for television.
The Broadcast Film Critics Association announced the nominations for the 10th Annual Critics' Choice Awards, to be presented on January 10th in LA. Ten movies are nominated for Best Picture. In addition to the usual categories, the BCFA also gives a few offbeat awards, such as for Young Actress, Young Actor, Popular Movie, Family Film (Live Action), and Picture Made for Television. For historical perspective, check the BCFA Top Ten Films of the Year back to 1997.
