Howard Stern and Sirius Rejoice; the far right is fuming.

The Federal Communications Commission rejected a request Wednesday to impose indecency standards on satellite radio, where frequent agency target Howard Stern is taking his show. Read the full story here (subscription).

I think this is a big win for satellite radio, as well as satellite TV and Cable. Seriously folks, I am not really a Howard Stern fan, but I sure do not need the government protecting me from me. I don't really need them in my bedroom for that matter. In general, stay out of my personal life.

If I want to pay to be able to listen to Howard Stern or anything else for that matter, it is my right. I think that Rush Limbaugh is not only bad for America, but is too extreme. However, I don't think he should be banned from AM/FM/XM/Sirius, or from selling his books on Amazon. This is America people!

Truth be told, we probably are better off that our kids are not going to stumble across him on the FM band in the morning. In the end, it is probably a good thing that you will have to pay $12.95 per month for a Sirius subscription to hear him. It is difficult to prevent your kids from coming across him if you live in one of the markets that he is in. As far as I know, most FM radios do not have the ability to block out a particular station.

TV, computers, and Satellite Radio on the other hand, for the most part have options for you to block out something so your children are less likely to come across inappropriate content.

Now where the problem comes in, is that the companies that have business on the FM and AM bands, feel this is an unfair playing field. I can understand their point. However, the only reason Satellite Radio is even becoming viable, is because many people cannot tolerate listening to the programming that is available on FM and AM. So in a sense, the corporate media is responsible for their own downfall.
