Joe Satriani - Live In San Francisco DVD Review
Published December 15, 2004
Satriani certainly gave his fans his money's worth with this DVD. He enthusiastically performed for two and one half hours, which is longer thatabout 90% of the other concert DVD's out there. The set list is divided equallybetween two disks, with each disk including a 73 minute set. I actually found ita little bit too long to absorb both sets in one sitting, and I love instrumental rock guitar — especially Satriani. I think that most will find it better to watch one disk, take a break for the night, go practice your guitar, and then come back the next day to watch the second disk and marvel at how and the hell can he can play so effortlessly.
Note: I have seen a couple reviews of the Region 4, PAL version of this DVDthat complain that the disk two PCM track is out of sync with the video by about 1.5 seconds. I did not find this problem with my Region 1, NTSC version DVD. Ifanyone else has, please let me know.

I had the priviledge of interviewing Joe Satriani back in the early 90s. He was totally humble and friendly.
Over the years, I have lost touch with his music, but when I saw him in concert, I was in heaven. He is an outstanding virtuoso and worthy of discovery, if you call yourself a fan of the electric rock guitar.

"The first time I ever heard Joe Satriani's brilliant Ibanez tone was via an Armed Forces Network television commercial" Me too! Except the excerpt was from "Crushing Day", and months later an early AM broadcast of "King Biscuit" finally allowed me to find out who played the song. I rushed out and bought "Surfing with the Alien" ASAP.
THanks for the tip, this looks like a winner.
