"I can't for the life of me understand why someone would do this."

....Drowning Pool cancelled its tour as a mark of respect.

"No one knows why some people do the heinous things they do," the band said in a statement.

"Dimebag Darrell was the epitome of rock and roll. He wasn't just a player that all guitarists aspired to be, but the genuine article and a true friend."

Chimaira lead singer Mark Hunter said Abbott "changed the way metal music was written with his guitar playing".

"I don't know anybody in a band who hasn't stolen a few guitar riffs from him," he added. [BBC]

Damageplan made the following statements today:

"With all his greatness and accomplishments on the guitar, DIME will be missed more for his giving personality, charisma, caring for others, love and most of all his HEART!! Twice as big as the state of TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!! DIME gave it all everyday to each and every one of us and our lives have forever been hollowed without him ... Thanks to all of you for reaching out to us in this time of our immeasurable loss. REST IN PEACE BROTHER DIME!!!!!!"
- Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul, brother of Dimebag Darrell

"Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson was not just a true part of the Damageplan family, but part of the whole Dallas music scene. He was friend to all, with a great personality. He bent over backward to help us all with his trademark phrases like "What can I do for you sir?" and "Coming up!" He also stated his willingness to protect us, saying "I'd take a bullet for ya," and unfortunately did in defense of our lives. He truly lived and died for his friends and made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to save ours. For this we will never forget. You will be missed big man."
- the Damageplan family

Atlantic Records issued the following statement:

"We are shocked and saddened by these horrible and senseless shootings. This is a tragic event for the music community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the surviving members of Damageplan and their crew. Dimebag Darrell was an exceptional musician and an extraordinary person. Along with his brother and bandmate, Vinnie Paul, he was a member of the Elektra/Atlantic family for the past 14 years, and he will be deeply missed. The bravery displayed by Damageplan, their crew, their fans, and the local police will never be forgotten."

It does sound as though the killer might have been an undiagnosed paranoid schitzophrenic (sp?)

DimeBag is a legend, listening to Pantera is what helped me stay motivated to move on in the Marines, i am disgusted that the killer used to be a Marine. we have more discipline than that, which is probably why he got kicked out. My heart goes oyt to Dimebags, family, Panter, and Damageplan. I am sorry to hear that this happined. Its a Big Tragedy.

i am still sad for that nameless crime,i face thhis life saying to myself "stay heavy" and the sound of his guitar with the heaviest band in the world PANTERA brought me the strenght for that, sorry Dime Vinnie and all the people affected and their families, wherever you are Dime stay heavy!!!!!!!!

#6 — December 14, 2004 @ 05:05AM — Moco

I'm still devastated!!!! How? Why? Gale doesn't deserve to be called a Pantera fan. To blame Dime for Pantera breaking up is just unthinkable, or anyone in Pantera for that matter. The Pantera guys just took seperate directions in their lives and im sure there would be a reunion at one point in the future. Now Gale ruined that. Just think about it man, no more Dime, no more Pantera. Gale you mother f***ker

I think there should be a tribute to Dime, he deserves that!!!! And i'm sure anyone in the world of metal would help out.

Dime, when i die and meet you in metal heaven the jacks (or cuervos)are on me dude!!!! R.I.P.

I think Nathan Gale was mad at Dimebag for collabortating with Nickelback. Doesn't anyone agree with me?

Dimebag was and still IS the best guitarist out there. I started playing when I discovered him.. I am also from Texas myself and born in the same city as him, Dallas. It has been a long time since this happened and I still am shocked. Dimebag Darrell got me through Iraq as a soldier and gets me through the day as a civilian. Dime, may you rest in peace and smoke one for me.. As for Nathan Gale, I need to find his grave so I can piss on it. Shouts to all of the metal and Dime fans out there.
"I don't want to be burried in a well preserved body. I want to slide in sideways at 70 mph, on fire, with holes, and shooting, saying to myself, "Holy shit!! that was one hell of a ride"

#12 — May 19, 2006 @ 11:26AM — mongo

i feel that the marines should show some more responsiility for what happened .the marines are training people everyday in counter terrorism isn't that the same as showing how to commit terrorism and should what he did be considered an act of terrorism.

#13 — November 25, 2006 @ 18:15PM — LoL that sucks [URL]

man they should really get better security, getting shot for no reason really sucks.
