R.I.P. Darrell Abbott
Way back in 1993 a friend recommended that I check out this band called Pantera. I didn't until a year later. In 1994 Pantera released their third album, Far Beyond Driven. This was the first album I ever heard by...

I was reading about this, and was saying "that's some fucked up shit, dude".

And then, in the back of my mind, I thought: "I wonder how long it will take the RIAA to blame this on internet downloads".

#2 — December 10, 2004 @ 20:50PM — Eric Olsen

the blackest of humor Jim, but damn funny

#3 — December 11, 2004 @ 11:51AM — Bhaskar

Dear Dime,
You are gonna forever remain in our hearts as one of the metal demi-gods who kicked serious ass with all the ripping solos. Keep the faith up there, man

As someone who HAS fallen under the target of the security people at the Alrosa Villa, and as a fellow lifetime ax-playa - I am sickened to think that some demented freak hellbent on mayhem can just blow by security at the back door . . . and march into the club with a gun blazing. I happened to find myself in a situation at the Alrosa awhile back where I ended up 'lifting' three cans of beer. I was dead broke at the time - and, I was thirsty! Pat Travers was playing that night. A co-owner of the Alrosa and 5 or 6 of their 'elite' bouncers marched me into a back room. I figured I'd be nothing but body parts when they were through with me. Point being. Don't steal a beer in the Alrosa Villa. They WATCH for shit like that. Shame that club owners are not required to bring the same kind of vigilance to the front and back entrances to clubs like the Alrosa. Where's the security training? What about protection for performers and patrons instead of BEER!!! For my full recount of my experience with security at the Alrosa Villa . . . and to get a perspective on just what matters most to club owners - catch my review: DIMEBAG DARRELL AND LIGHTS OUT AT ALROSA. You can find it 6 or so pages in on Google, by simply searching the words: Dimebag Darrell. Rest in Peace Dime. And for the rest of us all . . . let's get the problem fixed. Licensed, Trained, Security Guards at the door to these places - is now a MUST. Don't let Dime's death be in vein. Rock On.

you are the worst nation that ever lived on this planet.

#7 — December 13, 2004 @ 14:31PM — Phillip Winn [URL]

Never mind the death of 27 million people under the reign of Mao, WE'VE KILLED A GUITARIST!

It's a good thing I know that there are people in Europe whose brains actually function.

#8 — December 13, 2004 @ 14:34PM — SFC Ski

I notice commenter #6 didn't type that in Rusian, no need to thank us (and our guns and our rock 'n' roll).

#9 — December 13, 2004 @ 15:01PM — Aaman [URL]

Were the Inquisition, the crusades, the religious wars, the crimes against science and the killing of a Dutchman inspired by New World values? I think not.

#10 — December 13, 2004 @ 16:02PM — tanya zirkles

Well I seem to remember a film-maker named Van Goth getting shot and then beheaded in the street a few weeks ago. Last time I checked Holland was part of Europe.

#13 — December 14, 2004 @ 09:55AM — Eric Olsen

yes, we have a violent culture and too many guns in the hands of too many freaks, but we hardly have a monopoly on murderous fanatics

#14 — December 14, 2004 @ 11:54AM — Jason Muster

Hey "man" from europe, the only things bigger than our guns are our dicks. I think that's where your hatred of us really comes from.

#15 — December 14, 2004 @ 14:37PM — Tim

Dimebag Darrell was a inspiration to me and my fellow friends to start a band - Deception. He was everything anyone could look up to as a role model. I wish he was still alive today, because if he was, the world wouldnt be in such a hell right now.

#17 — December 16, 2004 @ 21:26PM — Scotty

Lets forget the music for now and remember the kind of guy he was. He always had a smile on his face and never walked past a fan that was egar to meet him. He always signed autographs, talked and just hanged out like he was on of the guys. Hell, he was one of the guys. Seeing him walk around the mall, eating at Chili's on Cooper St. or chilling at the tattoo bar for a drink or 12..He was so fucking cool. Just going to the memorial the other night makes you think how much he touched the lives of people. He loved his fans more than music. I hope he is up there playing his heart out. In fact I know he is.

We love you Dime & miss you dearly.
RIP Brother!!

Dimebag Darrell was truly one of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived.....and that was the most f**ked up way to end his life. May whoever killed him rot in torment.

for anyone who lived metal in the 90s should remember that dime was the best guitar player in the world. and vinnie is the best drummer in the world.but also phil was the general of heavy metal.pantera's music showed us it was o.k. to indulge in our primal nature.

I dont go one DAY without thinking about the first time I heard brother "DIME" squeel out CFH tracks OR the Vulgar album. As a die hard fan, distant brother,..he is all I ever talked about...Vince and Dime both! All my friends, family, co-workers alike knew me for my passionate thoughts and beliefs of those so called distant brothers I met once at a busy concert at St. Louis Riverport Amphitheater. I noticed Vince walking around the crowd, hard to believe no one picked him out! But I casually walked up as if we were family,..comfortable. I miss DIME, it hurts. I am eager and intend to somehow meet with Vince one day, and talk as friends do. I wish I had a way to help get the peace of mind for Vince, that he deserves. I wear my "In Momory" shirt proudly, and keep my "catch the flame pick" in my pocket. For those who know...what a brother, sends chills down my spine when I put on Damageplan. THERE WAS MANY YEARS EVERY SQ.INCH OF MY ROOM WAS PANTERA, ALWAYS SEARCHED HARD TO FIND ITEMS, MADE EVERYONE WATCH HOME VIDS, AND RECITED DIME...."IT'S SO IMPORTANT, TO MAKE BEST FRIENDS IN LIFE" I LOVE YA' DIME AND VINCE... LIKE AN UNKNOWN DISTANT LITTLE BROTHER YOU NEVER HAD. BE PEACEFUL...GLAD TO GET THAT OfF MY CHEST. THANKS!!
