Twinemen Sideshow

Remember Morphine? No, silly, not the drug, the band. After Mark Sandman died, Dana Colley and Billy Conway weren't finished making music. Together with singer Laurie Sargent, they put together Twinemen and continued to put out unusual music.

The point of it all, as Colley says, is to create music that can't easily be categorized. Sideshow, their second release accomplishes just that. From melodic and mellow to eccentric and frenzied, they pretty much cover it all here.

I found it to be a bit generic and it seems to lack that "something" that clicks. There aren't any particular highs or lows and I can't pick one song over the others as a really good song. On a positive note, I can't pick one that's any worse than the others, either. The musicianship is top-notch and the songwriting is solid and overall, it's a solid offering by a veteran band. A little mellow, maybe, but a good CD.

interesting - I have been wanting to check out Twinemen for a while.

Dug Morphine, and also dug Laurie Sargent's solo album a few years back.

i keep wondering if she's somehow embarassed by Face To Face. i thought their first record was great.

...but you see almost no mention of that band in any Twinemen bio material.

hmmm, i didn't know there was a Sargent solo album....
