New album releases, week of 11-16-2004

Neil Young has a greatest hits album out today. Young has shown remarkable restraint over the years in not loading up bunches of compilation albums. This is his first ever single disc hits set. Looks pretty good.

The Beatles have a new box set, The Capitol Albums, Vol. 1. It contains the first four American Capitol records (Meet the Beatles!, Second Album, Something New, Beatles '65), which were famously made from slicing and dicing the several albums they had already put out in England, where there were never albums of these titles. These four albums were the primary inspiration for the famous butcher block cover.

Artistically, it makes much more sense to skip these, and get the standard English albums as the boys put them out. However, they would quite understandably be a big point of nostalgia for American Beatles fans of a certain age.

Destiny's Child has a new album out, Destiny Fulfilled.

Eminem's Encore album is out. On the basis of the couple of songs I've heard, he seems to be about played out.

Besides Eminem, there are several big name rap albums this week, including entries from Snoop Dogg, Chingy, and a hits album by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Bon Jovi has a box set, 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong. I don't really give a rat's ass about Bon Jovi, me being a music fan and all. However, the title and album cover are cute.

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly and sometimes candidate Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at MoreThings.com, what with the paranoid religious visions and the Pentacostal music and visions of God and anarchy running amok and such. Somebody oughta call the cops to report his out of control freedom of conscience. Till they come to take him away somewhere where he can't hurt anyone else, you can check out his weekly column of NEW ALBUM RELEASES.

I think the new MF Doom album-MM Food was supposed to come out yesterday too, but I couldn't find it in my local store today. Doom has been on a tear recently with the great Madvillain and Viktor Vaughn albums, and if you are feeling that Eminem is washed up and want to check out some top of the line hip-hop, look for MF Doom!

Aaron, the Eminem Show was Em's third CD.

Hey, did you notice that none of hhis albums sound the same? That's proof of how good he is, even though Marshall Mathers LP was still his best work.
