I have news for you my friends--the "golden age" of enlightened democratic participation has never existed.
It's just been one damned "log cabin and hard cider campaign" after another.
So get out there and support your team! After all--the only thing hanging in the balance is the fate of the world!

That's a fair point. Rarely, if ever, has there been a "golden age" in the sense that a historical version of something is any more morally acceptable than the present version.
"Moral degredation" is a misnomer.
