Hal, I would describe your attitude toward the administration as contmeptuous rather than hateful, so I wasn't referring to you, but you know who the usual suspects are - on both sides - as well or better than I do

One can only guess how many Secret Service agents are currently Googling into this thread.

Whew.

Just a disclaimer: Shark loves and respects American laws, and it was "NC" who wrote: "...if Bush and Cheney are so irredeemably evil, why don't you try to kill them?"

Signed,
A liberal (albeit degenerate), peace-love-and-flowers wimp who is afraid of guns.

Could you provide links to "the level of outright hatred expressed often here" from the Left?

I seem to recall most of the hate speech as being from the Right (e.g., NC).

Thanks.

But murder, Eric. Assassination of a man appointed president by the Supreme Court. (A technicality that I don't think would get anyone off.) Suggesting we give up our comfortable swivel chairs, canopied beds, flowers on Fridays and IRAs for a spartan cell at a federal prison. Does NC think we are stupid or something?

Seriously, though, that is some kind of reasoning error. So, I will give NC a clue. The reason I am not interested in killing Bush or Cheney is because I expect better of myself. Yes, the world would might be a better place without them. But, I would not be a better person if I took them out. Most people are not afraid of killing as he seems to believe. Most of us consider murder beneath us.

Wow. This "NC" is probably the biggest, angriest whack job in the history of Blogcritics (and that's saying a lot!)

And associating "degenerate" liberals with the desire to MURDER THE PRESIDENT OF THE US is probably the lowest move we've seen so far.

Nice work, NC; you epitomize the rational side of the Compassionate Conservatives!

=======

re: Robt. Brady's "...What may be worse, his [Bush] due election will fully legitimize all the deception he has stood for and stands for still..."

I disagree here. As I've said hereabouts before, although I'm voting for Kerry, I don't mind if Bush gets elected. (note: not 're-elected' -- xxoo, Al Barger!)

Bush needs to suffer the full extent of his Iraqi Blunder. He needs to clean up his room. He shit in his hat and he should have to wear it for another four years.

I also believe that things have to get worse before they get better -- and with the GOP in charge of virtually ALL aspects of Federal Govt. during what promises to be a diplomatic and economic (etc) MELTDOWN over the next four years -- I think there's a good chance the radical conservative, Neo-Con philosophy might be delegitimized for the balance of the 21st century. (I think I can handle soup lines for four years...?)

All that (meltdown, more wars, etc) might lay the foundation for a swing back to the Left.

(Hell, I'd be happy with a swing toward the friggin' middle! The Bushies do serve one major purpose: they make Pat Buchanan and the Paleo-Cons look like a pack of friendly Boy Scouts! Maybe that was the long-term goal? Nah.)

Point two, NC: this isn't a religious war as you seem to think, it's an election.

Point one: if that's all you've heard, you really have had your head where the sun don't shine for four years.

Bush has been a failure on economics, foreign policy, terrorism, jobs, security, health care - you name it, he failed at it.

People who recognize those failures have objected reasonalby and with facts in all the areas.

But all you get out of it is some medieval religious mystical message?

Whatever you're taking, you should stop.

If you're not taking anything, maybe you should.

In America, NC, people don't need to use guns to eliminate politicians, they can (still) use ballots.

Pathetic. All I've heard from your side for four fucking years now is that Shrub was sssssselected, not elected, and now you're trying to wriggle out of the implications of your anti-Bush fanaticism by giving me Civics 101? Doesn't work that way, pardner. If, as so many members of the Blogcritics politburo believe, Bush is an illegitimate president, then the "ballots, not bullets" argument simply doesn't follow.

That's point one. Point two is, if you think Bush is the antichrist, why on earth would you wait four years to vote him out instead of trying to kill him as soon as possible? Hitler was democratically elected to the chancellorship of Germany but surely that wouldn't deter you or I, the hypothetical time travelers, from taking a shot at him in 1933 had we the chance. Plus, as I understand it, what makes Bush the antichrist is that he supposedly gets off on killing (and facilitating the killing of) innocent people in other countries. Since people in other countries don't get to vote in our election, the "ballots, not bullets" argument really doesn't work for them. So why not step up, save the world, and put one between G-Dub's eyes?

Seriously, though, is there not a single one of you degenerates honest enough to admit publicly to your desire to see the president dead? The left keeps dancing around the idea of assassination -- witness the recent column in the Guardian that was later played off as a "joke" or that "fictional" story by Nicholson Baker where two men discuss the pros and cons of murdering Bush -- but not a man or woman among you has the balls to come right out and cop to what clearly is the subtext of so much wacko Bush-hating hysteria. Why not? For all the cock-stroking you all do about speaking truth to power, it seems you're not even willing to risk a visit from the Secret Service to talk about your fondest political desires. Like I said, pathetic.

The legitimate election of this man will bring us more war, will hand over America's precious legacy to freedom's enemies, against whom our forebears pledged their lives and sacred honors; his election will give executive voice to the nation's lowest, most aggressive, least rational powers.

Superb job of demonization, Robert, even by the lofty standards of Blogcritics. You lose points for not explicitly comparing G-Dub to Hitler but I think we all grasped the subtext. The laughably pompous rhetoric ("my words fall soundless") replete with paraphrase of the Declaration of Independence and "Paine" pseudonym is also cute. Declare independence from Bushian fascism!

Since this post is written as a sort of call to arms, let me pose a serious question to you and the rest of the patriots here at BC: if Bush and Cheney are so irredeemably evil, why don't you try to kill them? The colonists didn't just around bitching about King George; they did something about it. If I sent you back in time to Nazi Germany and handed you a rifle, you'd take a shot at the Fuhrer, wouldn't you? So what's the hesitation with respect to Bush? Simple cowardice, or do you simply not believe your own bullshit sufficiently to act on it?

It's going to take more than wagging your finger in our faces and threatening us with moral rebuke to impress us. You may be the master thespian, but your sanctimony act will not impress the likes of Bin Laden and it won't defend the country.

And the adults are LONG since tired of the children whining about their lost election. More people cast discernible votes for Bush in Florida y2K than did so for Gore. Same result by numerous governmental and private counts.

You lost. Get the hell over it, and get ready- cause you're going down again like Linda Lovelace next week.
