Axel Rudi Pell proves he can write a good ballad or two

The Ballads 3
Axel Rudi Pell
(SPV)
As you might gather from the title of the CD; this is a collection of ballads from ARP and company. The amusing thing, of course, is considering Johnny Gioeli of Hardline is doing the vocals, this could easily have been a release from the LA-based melodic rockers. That is, by no means, a bad thing, as this combination seems to keep ARP from some of his more ott performances. This is entirely culled from the releases that feature of JG. In full knowledge this is a repackaging of old material, the band have included three new tracks: an acoustic version of 'Forever Angel', a cover of Rainbow's 'Temple of the King" (a band that clearly heavily influenced ARP) and the new track and CD opener 'Don't Say Goodbye'. This is a solid release from an excellent pairing of talents. If you want a gentle introduction to the latest version of the ARP band, you could do much worse that look here. A solid release, if not exactly essential.
